Drops from every rare in the Emerald Dream, not just the ones that show up on the zone map. This includes the Surging Lasher that spawns during the Emerald Frenzy events. Just make sure to use the Tethercoil Rune before pulling, it can't be used in combat.

Extremely important to know: DO NOT press ESC or use any /stopcasting macro while you have the buff, it will get removed and you will not get the quest item! Just tested it while farming some rares.

Helped a friend collect these, you can kill the same rare multiple times a day.
Emerald Frenzy was a good source, Surging Lasher is quick to respawn, just kill the mobs while Emerald Frenzy is up to spawn him repeatedly.

For anyone struggling with the Taut Tethercoil quest like I was here is the best strategy i found on day 4 of farming.

Look on the map for a emerald Frenzy event - farm mobs in the area to spawn Surging Lasher - use item on it and kill
Also end boss of every superbloom you can also use item on but you will need to drop combat.

I was originally farming rares and got about 7 rares in 10 hours it was super frustrating. Honestly save your sanity and wait for the emeral frenzy events which are pretty regular, and I got 5-10 per event

I suggest turning on something like Handy Notes, because even the normal rares count towards this and they don't show on the map from far away.

Farmed it today in about two hours, here are my steps:

1. Ideally you don’t want to have Aurostor WQ completed but it’s still doable. You either click the finder icon next to the WQ name or you have to search "Hib" in Raids - Dragonflight.

2. Stand next to the spawn location of "Moltenbinder’s Disciple" rare. My philosophy is that thanks to the toy he is one of the more important rares in the zone so if you can see him up there are probably not many rare hunters around.

3. Join Aurostor group that is ideally not the same server as you are. If you join and the Disciple is not up, leave and join another or wait for another group. If the Disciple is up, kill him (and use the rune of course). Then stay in the group and fly west to check Apostle and Balboan. At least one of them was usually up as well. Then fly back east and check rares such as Henri Snufftail, Mosa Umbrane, Molten Leadspike etc.. Make a circle clockwise while checking for other rares until you are back to where you started.

- The important thing is to stay in the raid group the entire time. I had a lead DC and remained in the shard, some randomer became lead and I still remained in the shard. It was pretty much a free farming for me.

4. Once you are back at the spawn point of the Disciple, leave group and repeat step 3.

5. Profit?

P. S. Sorry for my lack of linking of the rares, I’m too old and lazy to do such fancy things around here. Also, I understand this is a simple shard hopping strategy but maybe someone will find it helpful since you can just farm the same rares over and over to drop the item.

For those wondering why they are tethering mobs but not getting the item either on the first (elites) or second (raid bosses) part of this quest, it's bugged, they broke it.

As of 5pm EST Feb 9th 2024 with a hotfix, these aren't dropping for anyone.

Took me around 2 hours to get 50 of them, just realm hop with the world boss and kill the rares that are always up but not located on the world map just mini map.
There are 2 on the top right.

Just a heads up but for whatever reason the rune shares a CD with the trinket, even though it doesn't trigger the trinket CD. So if you use a trinket before you use the rune, then you have to wait 20 seconds before you use the rune. So be conscious of what your using if you're spawning a rare!

If you're not getting credit, you may be hitting 'escape' to do things like close your map or bags. I've done this since vanilla, and realised a ton of things that aren't channels, actually are. You're channeling a hidden cast while using this taut tethercoil, and pressing escape to close your map will end the cast and stop you getting credit.

So, DO NOT PRESS ESCAPE WHILE KILLING RARES.
