Even though there's a Blizzard article stating it is intended for this item to not be deleted, I encourage people to make bug reports about it. I sent this message today:

Unable to delete "Conch Whistle", an item which is forced into your bags. I've seen there's an article that claims this is intended, with the explanation "needed for multiple quests within the game". This is unacceptable. You have never forced undeletable items into our bags in the past, don't start now. If an item is required for a quest, give it to us when we pick up the quest and remove it when quest is completed or abandoned. The way you've done it the last 20 years.

Conch Whistle... ? More like the item of WTF YOU DOING IN MY BAGS!

Blizzard should really get off that culture of "a drug dealer doesn't use his own drugs, so we don't let our employees play the game"

Blizzard. Warcraft is NOT a drug and if it were, I'm fairly certain it's not having any effect at all ie it's a terrible drug.

I've had oxygen that's a better drug than Warcraft.

TLDR: Do not delete! Immune to fall damage! Useful if falling is faster than flying/gliding/etc, or specifically in areas that do not permit flying.
Yes, it sucks that once again, the devs have suckered us into another bag loss item. Maxed rep, got the mount, can't delete the conch (!@#$!@#$)
So, i figured that since the conch activates "vehicle mode" which operates different from typical mount actions, then like other "vehicles" in the game, it should be immune from fall damage....
Did a "Crash test" off the Aspects tower in Valdraken... and confirmed... no fall damage :) The list of location throughout the game where this could be useful is pretty extensive.
Since they patched it so you can't use the conch in instances, devs appear to be aware of this. There are still plenty of occasions when falling down a level (or 7) would be faster than flying.
Plenty more locations that do not permit flying, but could benefit those that can not glide/float.
Is it annoying to lose yet another bag slot? Absolutely!
Is it useless like the Legion Artifact Weapons that I am so sick of looking at in my blippin bank? No!
So, grain of salt ramblings and such... don't care if it's needed for future quests, it still has use as a vehicle/mount

I don't want to be stuck with this item taking up bag space forever.

And got the following response: I absolutely understand how annoying it is that you cannot delete the Conch Whistle. You are correct that this is intentional that the item cannot be deleted, this means that even on our side as GM's we're unable to delete the whistle for you.

If you feel this is something that should be changed we would ask you use the ingame suggestion button to let the developers know or if you feel it's not working as intended then we would recommend the bug report button ingame.

I know this wasn't the answer you hoped for so Im sorry I couldn't help more! I do still hope you have a lovely day despite this

And so I did and I hope u guys do aswell so we can reclaim some bag space

Speaking for at least myself here, glad I came here before I started these quests. This is a great way to make players completely ignore an entire questline unless they want to lose a bag slot for the foreseeable future.

As of 10.2.0 it's still impossible to delete the item, even when you completed the rep grind.
I would suggest, for those stuck with it, to poke GMs and forums about it. There's a few thread about that issue, the more traction it gets the more chances devs notices it.

Can someone please just link the quests we need to do in order to get this out of our damn bags! I'm begging ya'll smart WoWhead peeps. All the devs say is it's intended not to be deleted cuz it's needed for multiple quests, so can we find out wtf they are so we can do them and delete it ffs. please please please and ty.

Why the *&^% would you want to delete this amazing item! It can give you up to full ground mount movement speed indoors (not raid/dungeons) and fall damage immunity!

The way this works is that by leveling up the Glimmerrog Racer faction your snail becomes faster. The easiest thing to do is to get all the pets and turn those in and that alone should get you to rank 3 which makes this worth using. With pets account-wide it makes it easy to do on every alt.

Movement speeds at different rep ranks:
Rank 1 = 60% (BAD - slower than walking normally)
Rank 2 = 100% (same as walking)
Rank 3 = 140% (point where this becomes useful)
Rank 4 = 140% (no gain from rank 3)
Rank 5 = 200% (full normal ground mount speed)

As of right now during 19th Anniversary with 19% rep buff, rank 4 can be achieved by turning in all pets, then doing 3 dailies. Also if you wait until Darkmoon Faire for 10% increase.

I discovered that if you are on a mount and stationary (regular flying mounts only) and then use the conch, you can fall from any height and take NO DAMAGE when you hit the ground. The whole key here is that you MUST be stationary in order to use the item. =)

As of Patch 10.2.5 this item is now destroyable.

Also confirmed that you can easily pick the item back up during the Pilota di Scintillogg reputation quests.
