Rare Creatures

As you have already noticed there are tons of rare creatures in Draenor that give great loot, toys, and mounts. However the ones we will focus on are of a certain type. The level 100-102 Rare elites drop 620 iLvl gear that will help you get those items you need to gear up to par. Bring some friends. Some of them have 1,000,000+ hp and level 100 (possible elite) mobs guarding them.

The lvl 101 Rares are not like their lower level counterparts. Everyone in the party will not receive the loot, only one person will. And the items are not tradeable, even during the first hour. They also do not respawn as fast as lower level Rares. Therefore, when you arrive you are not guaranteed that the mob will be alive and present. You may have to cycle around to other mobs or return the next day.

Professions

Professions can produce 540 epic items for you, but you need to gather yourself uncommon materials to craft them. Here is a brief list of what you can make and how.
Burnished Leather - Cloaks: Agility / Strength / Intellect and Armor: Mail & Leather
Hexweave Cloth - Cloaks: Agility / Strength / Intellect and Armor
Taladite Crystal - Rings and Necklaces
War Paints - Trinkets, Staves and Wand
Gearspring Parts - Gun & Headpiece
Truesteel Ingot - Weapons & Armor
Alchemical Catalyst - Draenic Philosopher's Stone

Quests

There are few very easy quests that if you haven't already completed them, can help you get some very nice gear in a short amount of time. Check them out!

Call of the Archmage will start your legendary questline for an epic 640 ring that is upgradeable.

As you said at this time a "Work in Progress".

I greatly appreciate the rare comment about looting as a group.

I think follower Missions are the biggest piece you're missing.

If you have the War Mill you can wind up with upgraded ilvl 632 epics from Nagrand quests (the later ones)
