When you equip the helmet provided by this quest, the Gahz'ridian will show up on your minimap. Loot the little sandpiles and collect the ornaments.

The greatest concentration of piles is found in the Eastmoon Ruins (beware of Ogres).

There's even more of these at 40, 73. And a much lower concentration of ogres there, too.

It's Southmoon Ruins if you don't have coords.

While hitting the eastmoon/southmoon ruins for Gahz'ridian, you can save a bit of time by killing ogres for this quest: https://www.wowhead.com/classic/quest=5863 (The Dunemaul compound), on many servers the compound is camped. While not all ogre's are the type you need, you do get brutes and enforces spawning between the locks and regular's.

They are basicly spread out thru the Tanarisian desert. Little heaps of sand in the desert, oooh the joy.

BUT, as them being near ancient ornaments, or so the goblin lets us believe, they seem to be concetrated around the ruins.

Advisable to pick the q up as soon as you can, and then do the other Tanaris quests and keeping the helmet on.

The ogres in that coords are so hard for me (43 rogue), i just can kill some 45 ogre mage or 45-46 regulars.

But there are a lot of Gahz'ridian in there.

For those with full quest logs, once you've started the quest, you can actually drop the quest but still keep the helmet and be able to dig up the ornaments.

Don't bother looking around anywhere but, Southmoon Ruins, & Eastmoon Ruins. Tons of them there. If you travel to both you will get all 30. There's a bunch of ogres around, so you'll have to kill some to get closer to the sand piles. :)!

There are about 30 Ornaments alone in South Moon Ruins. Check your map- Southern Central Tanaris all most to mountains.

You get the quest at 52,46. Than just visit ruins at 47,65 and/or 40,37. There are 15+ items there alone. With some patience you don't even need to kill any lvl 46 mobs around.

FOR THOSE WHO DON'T KNOW WHERE EASTMOON IS: It's at cords 46.66

without cords, Just walk/mount about 3 cm south of the quest giver are, (On map of course.. ;P) and about 1.5 cm to the west. There you are ;P

Seriously - to get this quest done quickly, go to Eastmoon Ruins (46,66). The ornaments are there by the dozens!

I don't know about all these people saying that theres tons of this stuff at one ruin, i had to goto both ruins to complete it. I got 15 at the first ruin, then on the way, picked up 2 more, then the rst were at the southernmost ruin. The two ruins are on your map, south of quest giver or at the coords above.
Also, 3 words, stupid ass ogres. Its amazing how you can be 10 feet away from their face and they will refuse to see you.

Ps. The circle he wants you to get in ratchet, is to the left, coming into town from the dock, in a chest in front of the house, with a <Workshop Assistant> lady goblin in it.

Go south to the ruins. Ogres are a mix of level 47-48 warlocks, mages, and melee characters. Easy to pull one at a time. Lot's of mounds in the ruins.

If you don't need the reward, get the staff (2.5g at the vendor)

Exp: 4400 pts

I did this easily at level 45.

I found loads of these at 47.66 (cosmos) the Earthmoon Ruins I think it is called. It is level 46-48 Dunemaul Brutes/Warlocks/Mages/Ogres in the area, but they are well spaced out.

I completed this at 46, and received 4400 xp and an increase in reputation with gadgetzan.

The best location for the artifacts is are the ogre ruins that many others have already mentioned. The artifacts have a high respawn rate and are concentrated in an area guarded by 45-48 ogre, brutes, mages and warlocks. The ogres do no patrol or move, and so are easy to run around.

I started by looking for these far and wide, since I remember seeing frequent bumps in the sand while riding places. This was a mistake - If you go to the area around Eastmoon Ruins (47,65) there a bunches of them. You needn't go anywhere else.

What your looking for is small white mounds in the sand, around the 3 Dunemaul forts. The one in the SE is the best place. Lots of mounds in the sand.
(I read the psots as the Dunemaul mobs would drop the Gzha'ridian Ornaments. wrong .. just click on a mound and loot

you may think this will take ages to do but if you can find the eastmoon ruins, co-ordinates (47,65), then they are all over the place, reali easy to do there. Only a few ogres there, but nothing to worry about =)

I picked this up late at lvl 55.
Go to Eastmoon Ruins - about 46,66 - and the things are all over the place. At 55 I didn't aggro a single Dunemaul.
Exp 2950
Staff of Lore is worth 2g - 55s - 4c and Surveyor's Tunic is worth 1g - 2s - 38c.

I found some ruins that had TONNES of these and was able to finish this quest in about 10mins, not bad for 2.5g for the staff.

The ruins are the Eastmoon Ruins...

Confirmed. I went stright to Eastmoon Ruins and got all the ornaments I needed - and more kept popping. They respawn fairly quickly here, too, as do the ogres. But the silver is always welcome.

Very easy quest, in Eastmoon Ruins i had to fight only 3-4 ogres to get all the items.

2.5g as reward are a real gift for this easy quest

You can find all 30 in a matter of minutes at 47,64 (Eastmoon Ruins - Middle of map, South)

Only some ogres that don't really move to kill every once in a while.

Very easy.

The location of the Eastmoon ruins is 47, 64 and you can easily get all the necessary Gahz'ridian at that location. As stated previously there are 47 and 48 ogres at the location.

i don't really understand blizzard, why is the helmet for? these are easy to find without the helmet in other hand there are search/find quest much difficult than this one were you should had one of this items and get nothing lololololol

You can find the items you need by just hanging out around the quest giver's area, but it will be very slow going waiting on respawns.

Instead, head south to the east ogre compound. While you slaughter ogres for another quest (link not handy at the moment), you'll find the little mounds you loot these from all over the place - they respawn in the time it takes to go from pile to pile elsewhere in the compound.

The ornaments seem to appear everywhere in Tanaris except near the beach areas around Lost Rigger Cove and Steamwheedle Port. They're most plentiful, like others have already posted, in the ruins occupied by the ogres in south central Tanaris.

hmm, i found the ruins, and got 21 of them, then for some weird reason it stopped dropping it, any1 else had this problem? There was no loot to get.... opened the 21 first with 100% drop, now i have opened ~30 more without drops..

As others have said head south to the Eastmoon ruins you can easily get all 30 of them there.

The Eastmoon Ruins and the Southmoon Ruins, both have loads of the stuff laying around. So if you find too many people waiting to pick them up in the Eastmoon... just travel a few meters SW and continue your harvest in the Southern ones.
Respawn is indeed very high, but after a while, or if too many players are about digging them out, they tend to disappear for a little while.

As long as you can handle a few ogres levelled in the high 40s, the Eastmoon and Southmoon Ruins are LOADED with these things; and, the respawn of them is fairly fast.
I wasn't able to use either of the quest rewards but I trade vendored the staff for a little under 2 gold.
This one is worth the reward.

The eastmoon ruins are the perfect place to get all the Gahz'ridian Ornaments in less than 20 minutes. You don't even need the helmet because the place is stuffed with them. The ogres are easy kills and give a fair amount of silver.

I think i prefer to not turn this quest in and keep the Gahz'ridian Detector, which looks kind of crazy. If you dont turn it in you can keep the hat indefinitely.

Best location to gather these is the Southmoon Ruins located @ 40.83, 72.85

The sand piles you dig the Gahz'ridian Ornaments out of for this quest are heavily concentrated around the ogre infested ruins where you do The Dunemaul Compound quest. Quest giver is a Gnome hidden behind a building in the Northeast corner of Gadgetzan. Also, you don't actually need to equip the helm in order to collect the ornaments. The helm just enables you to track them on the minimap.

The best place I found to get this was the Eastmoon Ruins at (46,65).
I got there with 10 of them collected randomly through the zone while questing/mining mithril.
I got the other 20 in about 10 minutes running around avoiding the Ogres.
The Ogres range from 45 - 48, I'm 52 so it was pretty easy to dodge aggro.

You do not need to equip the detector helmet he gives you to loot them. Not only are they fairly easy to see without it, but Questie also does a pretty good job of marking common locations on the map.

In Season of Discovery, you won't have your head rune while wearing the detector.

<name>, I'm a scientist, but also a treasure hunter at heart!

Long ago, when trolls used to occupy this land, they created large amounts of ornaments modeled after Gahz'rilla, a hydra they worshipped as a deity. These ornaments are carved out of an element that I call "Gahz'ridian," after the hydra god.

I did find some myself, but I'd like to have some more to study -- maybe you can find some?

I even invented a detector that makes finding the Gahz'ridian a snap! Just put it on, and the search begins!
