Blackwing Lair is right around the corner, and with the new raid instance comes the availability of several new items which aren't just Best in Slot for various classes, but offer advantages beyond Phase 3. Although there are many highly sought after items in the new raid and everyone has updated BiS lists, some of the gear drops stand out more than others, capable of lasting well into Naxxramas or even the rest of Classic WoW.
WoW Classic Blackwing Lair Raid Overview
WoW Classic Blackwing Lair Loot
Razorgore
Vaelastrasz
Broodlord
Firemaw
Ebonroc
Flamegor
Chromaggus
Nefarian
Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker
- Legendary Quest Chain
Did somebody say...? This one should be pretty obvious, as the legendary is well known for its viability even well into future expansions. Highly sought after by Warriors and Rogues, there's a lot of argument as to whether it is primarily a Tank or DPS weapon, but for serious raiding guilds it's probably best served on a tank overall. It's the culmination of an arduous and expensive crafting quest, starting with the two halves of the
Bindings of the Windseeker
, along with the 10
Elementium Ore
, 10
Arcanite Bar
, 30
Elemental Flux
, and 100
Arcanite Bar
required to create the 10
Elementium Bar
necessary to summon the raid boss
Prince Thunderaan
who must be defeated to earn the blade.
Crul'shorukh, Edge of Chaos
- Nefarian
This highly competitive weapon will last well into Naxxramas for all non-Human Warriors. It is especially competitive for Orcs due to their Axe Specialization, while Humans will have access to better options through their Sword Specialization.
Ashjre'thul, Crossbow of Smiting
- Chromaggus
Another Naxxramas tier weapon, this one for Hunters. While it's to be expected that a new raid weapon should be best in slot for awhile, the fact that it is available a bit earlier in the instance and outclasses the weapons available in Ahn'Qiraj makes it highly sought after.
Drake Fang Talisman
- Ebonroc
This trinket is incredibly strong for all the martial classes, considered best-in-slot for Druids, Hunters, Rogues, and Warriors. Though some may eventually replace it in Naxxramas, it can easily last the rest of the game for many players.
Rejuvenating Gem
- Flamegor, Firemaw, Ebonroc |
Lok'amir il Romathis
and
Mish'undare, Circlet of the Mind Flayer
- Nefarian
There's not a whole lot to say as caster gear is relatively linear, but that shouldn't detract from the high amount of spell damage and healing these items offer, which directly translates into better performance.
Mish'undare, Circlet of the Mind Flayer
also stands out as a direct upgrade from the Tier 2 Mage and Warlock set helmets,
Nemesis Skullcap
and
Netherwind Crown
, offering more spell damage and an extra 2% spell crit, which becomes particularly important to Fire Mages in Ahn'Qiraj.
Spell Hit Gear - Various
Increasing chance to hit with spells takes a big leap in Blackwing Lair, particularly for Warlocks who don't get extra spell hit chance from their talents the way other classes do. Having to rely on gear for those effects, which isn't widely available during Phase 1 and 2 of Classic, puts them at a disadvantage which Blackwing Lair gear corrects thanks to items such as
Angelista's Grasp
,
Bracers of Arcane Accuracy
,
Band of Forced Concentration
, and
Neltharion's Tear
(also notable as one of the few items with 2% spell hit). Both Warlocks and Shadow Priests also benefit from fantastic shadow damage specific items such as
Band of Dark Dominion
,
Ebony Flame Gloves
, and
Mantle of the Blackwing Cabal
(even if it's not shadow specific).
Class Tier and Trinkets - Various
Each class can complete a tier set as well as loot a class specific trinket from various bosses in Blackwing Lair, and while the're not all winners, many of them are still interesting and competitive. Tier sets vary wildly, as some specializations (such as Fury Warrior) don't have any support whatsoever, though others shine. Likewise, the Hunter, Priest, and Warlock trinkets are lacking, but the Warrior trinket in particular stands out due to its strong scaling and viability for both tanking as well as PvP.

Darkmoon Card: Blue Dragon
- Darkmoon Faire
Although technically not a Blackwing Lair item, the Darkmoon Faire becomes available around the same time, and this trinket in particular stands out for healers with mana issues.
Nightfall
and
Corehound Belt
- Crafted
Also not specifically a Blackwing Lair items but becoming available at the same time, these crafted items stand out. The axe is predominantly used by Paladins, Shaman, and possibly your least favorite Warrior or Hunter to maintain the spell damage debuff for the raids spell casters, definitely worth allotting one of the precious few raid debuff slots for. The belt on the other hand is one of the strongest +healing items available, which should be very attractive to Druids, Paladins, and Shaman.
