Razorthorn Rise is just north of Veil Reskk, between Hellfire Peninsula and Shattarah. (53,13)

In order to do this quest you must first kill the Razorthorn Flayers until a Razorthorn Flayer Gland drops. Use the gland on a Razorthorn Ravager. The Razorthorn Ravager will then become "charmed" and act as a pet.

You will get a pet bar with an ability called Expose Razorthorn Root. You can find these roots by getting close to a Razorthorn Dirt Mound and clicking the ability.

The Razorthorn Dirt Mounds look like the Un'Goro Dirt Piles, except they're lighter.

the place you have to go to looks like there should be nothing there on the map.

the drop rate on the gland, is terrible, and its a collect quest, so terrible for doing with a group.

I think I'll be omitting this one from my daily routine.

This quest is the repeatable version of Discovering Your Roots. You start by doing "Discovering your roots" (the linked quest) and continue with this repeatable, "Rediscovering your roots."

Upon completed construction of the alchemy lab (during phase 4), this quest replaces Discovering Your Roots, and has the same objective but is a permanent daily quest that can be completed for reputation and reward, and will always be available once it is unlocked.

Maybe it's only on the Arathor server (EU) but most of these small mobs are bugged. Unable to move/killed/charmed/etc.
Aggro on first before you use the gland on it.
Eventhough the mobs are bugged as a warrior you can still fill up your rage and let ur fury down on the ones that can be killed.

As of 5/12/2008 in US-Mannoroth, most of the Razorthorn Ravager seem to be bugged. Before you waste your Razorthorn Flayer Gland, make sure that the Razorthorn Ravager is moving, you know, not static in one place.

I found a whole bunch not bugged on the other side of Razorthorn Rise.

Note to warlocks - charming the ravager seems to despawn your pet, as it acts as a pet. I assume the same is true for hunters.

This quest is very difficult for a hunter, once you charm a ravager, as factionz says, your normal pet despawns. It's very hard to continue fighting the mobs around the mounds without your normal pet! It's possible but I would be very cautious and perhaps fight all the mobs before you charm one.

Frost mages, make sure you don't summon your water elemental, because it will release your ravager and you will have to tame another.

To do this quest, simply, get there, it's in the edge of HP and Terrokar, there you will find the "Ravager"'s, which you need you need to kill the "Flayer"'s for the drop "Razorthorn Flayer Gland" which will take control of a "Ravager" for your use, as a pet, for a ny class, and also to collect the "Razorthorn Root"'s x5.

Once your done, go back to IoQD and give in your quest to the lady just behind the "Inn Keeper" and then your done!!!

The area is right above the Razorthorn Trail, in between Terokkar Forest and Hellfire. To complete this quest it does require a Flying Mount to get to.

WARNING: This quest is still pretty buggy. Majority of the Ravagers are unattackable (they will simply evade) and thus if you use the Gland on them it will just miss and you will have to acquire a new one. The best way to handle this is to only use it on Ravagers that are moving around.

for hunters controlling Razorthorn Ravager will unsummon your pet ... some pet stuff will not work like feed for example (but then again this pet don't have happiness), others will work like mend pet for example (and that's very useful), after you dismiss this pet you can call your normal pet.

so ! you don't have to leave you pet behind to come and acquire that gland whitout your own pet (those Razorthorn Flayers are level 72, dooh)

the pet you summon have 3 autocasting spells plus Expose Razorthorn Root (not auto-casted), it have a BIG DPS so is very easy to kill mobs around that piles
and it won't unsummon if you mount :)

everything is simple all u do is kill razorthorn flayers until a quest item drops look around for a ravager wait for it to move, so u can tell if its bugged or not, then use the quest item and just run around pick the roots and ur done =]

Still a couple of evading Ravagers and the Flayers now have an incredible knockback. Be careful not to stand with your back close to the edge.

Or if you don't want to fight ur ravager, you can send it on a suicide mission to attack a flayer or other ravagers.

Druids can shift into flight form and dismiss the ravager safely after gaining a foot or so in height.

Remember to get the root out of the exposed root, the ravager will dig it out, but you have to take it. I went around expecting it to automatically put it in my inventory, but you HAVE to pick it yourself.

I'm surprised that no one mentioned that this quest is very similar to Half-Life 2 when Gordon Freeman takes the pheromone sack from the antlion guard and uses it to "charm" antlions into destroying his enemies. "Discovering your roots" could also be referring to gaming in general.

At least that's how I see it.

Just did this quest, and it was bugged like most people are saying. The way I found to get around this is that the Ravager only behaves as a pet while you are in combat, so you have to enter combat and send it around digging up dirt and picking up the roots while in combat.

It's a good idea for skinners to finish up Gaining The Advantage (another SSO daily that can be picked up in Shattrath City) on the Razorthorn Rise as the ravagers that surround the dirt mounds are skinnable once dispatched.

There are also spawns of various Hellfire Peninsula herbs and fel iron ore, but definitely a gold mine for skinners.

Lvl 73 hunter, I just tried this and it must be completely bugged. No pet bar ever appeared for me to send the ravager digging. I tried the above suggestion of entering combat but still no bar appeared and I ended up aggroing more than I could handle without my regular pet so we both died. Don't know if this is a recent bug or I just wasn't doing something right.

I did this with Dogmeati, Level 76, Warrior-Prot., was not too sure about what to expect of this quest, but this is what happened to me! I started killing Flayers for the gland, to get a pet out of the ravagers. I did get a pet bar like a hunters pet with "dig root" command to the far left of the bar. At first i would guide my pet to the light colored brown mounds, he would dig up a root, then about the 3rd dig, my pet gets into a fight with another ravager, and dies! I take the new pet continue to the next mound, but as he approaches the mound another ravager attacks him, i kill the attacker and the pet digs up the 4th root. next mound was close and no attack came. FYI, the mounds i used were on the Eastern side of the area of operations for the quest. I competed the quest and turned it in! Level up!

for hunters this quest bugs sometimes.
you tame the pet in place of yours, but the bar doesnt appaear, or takes several minutes to appear.

then once you uncover the roots, you cant pick them up.

Does it drive anyone else nuts that the quest text says "Outlands"?

If you don't know, the realm is known as "Outland", and when people say, "Outlands" or "The Outlands" it makes me want to rip their faces off.

I've made sure to use the moving ravagers, and had no trouble with the drop rate for the flayer glands, about 50% or so. I charm the ravager then fight the other ravagers off their mounds. Try to target ravagers that are near 2 mounds. Click on the picture of the root in your pet bar to get the pet to uncover the root, then click on the root to open it. You can even send your pet ravager off again while you open one if there's another nearby. Doesn't hurt to clear a bit first.

One "doh" moment - don't summon your own pet like I automatically did as a frost mage, because of course you lose your ravager and have to get a new one. :)

This quest sucks for hunters... when you 'charm' a ravager, your pet disappears, and you're stuck with the equivalent of an untrained pet for the duration... Not fun, hunters aren't cut out for melee when you get ganked by several ravagers and/or flayers.

I finished this the first day that I attempted it, but now on the 2nd and 3rd day, I can't finish it. I also chose one that is walking around as stated, logged out and in, etc, all to no avail. I think this is bugged or there is a weird chain of events for success.

I spent a good 10 minutes trying to get these ravengers Finally i got one that would fight once you do Throw a gland then it becomes your pet and you just get it to dig up the piles of dirt for the root easy 9 g

Hyper-agressive mob swarms, fast respawn, poor drop rate, and no way to collect the roots once you have a ravager. I roamed all over the area clicking the 'expose a root' command, and nothing happened. Don't bother until they fix this in a patch. Waste of time, unless you are a mage who wants to experience the thrill of having a pet. I have better ways to spend my WoW time - like killing Blood Elves in Netherstorm.

I tried this three times, following all the tips and advice given above, and I was never able to successfully get a single root. Rather than compound the problem by simply abandoning the ravager, I would send it in to fight a flayer and Feign Dead (I'm a hunter). When it died, I would kill the 7 to 12 Flayers needed to get another gland, find a moving ravager and try again. The little mounds of dirt would light up as I passed the cursor over them, but I could never get any further interaction.

I abandoned the quest and will follow comments in here to see if I might attempt it again if further information shows up.

12/27/08, after charming a ravager, it does not behave as a normal pet should. For instance, when you click on the follow button, he (or she, or whatever sex this ravager may be) sticks around the spot where it was charmed. If you engage in combat, only then will it move to your location. When i was near a mound, in combat and the ravager was there defending me, only then would it expose a root for me when I ordered it to do so. After exposing the root, it would scurry back to it's original location, unresponsive to the 'stay', 'attack', 'passive', etc. commands I issued. Still a bit buggy I'd say.

There is a bug, but you can overcome it. The ravagers that are not moving were previously charmed by other players who flew away. Look for a ravager that is moving around, and you will be able to finish the quest.

After reading both forums for Discovering Your Roots and Rediscovering Your Roots, I found some helpful information and a lot of talk about a bug. For many of us, we have add-ons. If you have add-ons, you won't see a pet action bar after taming a ravager. To get it to dig the mounds to expose a root, press <ctrl> and <7> at the same time. Hope this helps.

Flew out to this remote area, killed about 10 flayers for a single gland, threw it at a ravager and..."Evade." IMO this daily is not worth the trouble.

1st time I tried doing this quest it was bugged. Multiple Ravengers on top of one another, gland not activating. Abandon Quest, wait till they fix it.

When charming.. look for a ravager that MOVES. Ones that don't move every 10-15 seconds will evade, and waste the sac.
Don't open a mound if pet needs to fight. some roots can be stolen.

If you fully buff up pet before you fly away, you can annoy the opposite faction by parking it near them as you fly off. as long as you are in target range, they will agro them, but won't affect you pvp wise.

My stocks are presently sufficient, but I'll need plenty of razorthorn roots to keep up with the demand.

Collecting the roots is difficult, but I know a special method of extraction.

Using the glands of the Razorthorn flayers, one can control a ravager there and use it to expose a root.

To find the roots, travel to Outlands and fly northeast from Shattrath until you reach Razorthorn Rise.

Return to me, <name>, once you have collected five of the roots.
