As the quest text states, you will need a Bash'ir Phasing Device in order to see the hidden mana cells. Just start killing the ethereal in the area until one drops.

Once you are phased, there doesn't seem to be a time limit. You'll be able to see the mana cells but you will also be vulnerable to Phase Wyrms.

IMO, while doing this quest and you get all the cells you need, take some time to run around and kill more of those Phase Worms. They're a great source of Motes of Mana. :)

Upon completion of the Sunwell Portal (a portal from Shattrath City to the Isle of Quel'Danas) during phase 2, this quest replaces Intercepting the Mana Cells, and has the same objective but is a permanent daily quest that can be completed for reputation and reward, and will always be available once it is unlocked.

Be careful if you die. I did and when at the graveyard I got to close to the edge and slipped off the Landing. As you are only able to get to the Landing by air I was unable to get to my corpse!!!
Fortunatly someone else did the same thing, but he was in a group and one of his group resed him. He then asked were my corpse was and I gave him cords, and got resed!!!
DUMB place to put the graveyard!!!
DON'T go forward, turn around first.
ALSO, as I was coming into the landing I looked down to see a good spot, noticed LOTS of creatures so I thought I would use the phase device before landing, not a good idea, it dismounted me and I crashed to my death. (that's how I died by the way) This almost embarrasing to tell, but don't make the same dumb mistakes.

I just did this for the 20th or so time and found an EXCELLENT spot. 54, 18 has a little cul-de-sac type ledge. Picked up 2 mana cells, killed a mana wyrm, picked up 4 more, killed 2 more wyrms, picked up 4 more cells. Grand total time was 4 minutes...

I found something particularly funny about this quest area, when you use the Bash'ir phasing device, you go to another dimension in the same area, however you non-attack pets such as "Phoenix hatchling" don't travel in that dimension with you, so you will see a phoenix hatchling hang it out by itself, but the fun parts come here, if a pally has this phoenix hatchling and uses his nova skill (looks like flames on the ground) it's gonna look like the phoenix is doing it which looks like a Al'ar miniature.. fun thing to see :)

Save yourself some time after you've collected all the mana cells and debuff the phasing, kill a few more etherals and get a new Phasing Device. Which you use the next time.

The phase wyrms can be a real pain in the butt. What I do, is wait for someone of the opposing faction to start fighting one, then sweep in and ninja the mana cell. You don't have to fight the wyrms and it ticks off the other guy. (I don't do this to members of my own faction of course)

This is one of the coolest quests in the game

If you're a fan of the Legacy of Kain series, you'll remember the Spectral Realm that Raziel oh-so-often visits. Well, this quest takes you to that very realm (well maybe not, but with that graphical filtering it looks identical!)

Kudos to Blizzard. Hope they continue designing quests like this in the future.

Just a note, you can mount up on your flying mount after you've used the phasing device, and as long as you stay in the area you won't phase back in. It makes the quest a lot easier as you can avoid killing any phase wyrms.

How to phase The mana cells are at Bash'ir Landing, but your not going to find any because first you have to kill the Bash'ir guys until it drops Bash'ir Phasing Device, they also drop from the unbound elementals . The phasing device isn't a too of a great droprate. Its as bad as the Sunfury attack plans, about 30% i'd say. Now use it and you will become:
Phased You will be able to see the mana cells along with more mobs that guard the mana cells. Its usually 1 per mana cell.

While phased, the normal Ethereal mobs cannot see or attack you, and vice-versa, however Phase Wyrms CAN attack and be attacked.

Fairly easy quest if you dont mind investing some time into it.
It took me about 10 kills to get the phasing device the first time and 2 the second, tho alot of guildies have said its taken them alot longer than this (i'm just lucky i guess).
Once phased i walked about rather than flying as the Mana Wyrms drop upto 3 mote of mana on times, but also sometimes none, so i farmed a bit as I collected the Smuggled Mana Cells.

I think its pretty good place for motes of mana to farm at.. it took me about 10 mins to get 15 motes...
(for example at Kirin'var Village(Netherstorm, popular place to farm mana motes) it took me an hour to get 2 primal mana)
btw mage AOE(arcane) does hurts those wyrms, where in Kirin'var Village - it does not
sometimes u can aoe about 5-6 wyrms at a time and if you are lucky, you can get 2 motes from each wyrm corpse (however sometimes not ^^)

should add that an hour of grinding gave me =11 primal mana

Keep in mind that when one phases back to normal reality, one will very likely be surrounded by ethereals who will aggro as soon as the phasing is complete. One should either be sure they're ready for a possibly multimob fight, or have a way to escape it.

This quest is super easy, Simply head to Bash'ir Landing, In the northern area of BEM (Flying mount or summonable only) And kill some of the Etherals around there that'll drop the quest item. Then just run around and kill the Phase Wyrms and pick up the Mana Cells.

On a side note, I stuck around for 15 minutes killing the Wyrms so far and have gotten 15 Motes of Mana. That's like 40 gold on my server. Not Bad IMO!

Just an FYI, the effect of this phase looks exactly the same as mage's Invisibility spell. It seems like the effects don't stack though, so things still look the same even when both effects are on.

Do not do this quest while in a raid group.The Phase device will not drop and you will be in bashir's landing forever, I learned the hard way.

Don't forget that you can still mount while phased... don't need to actually run/walk around looking for the mana cells, just mount up and fly around looking for them. And when you're done, mount up and fly before clicking off that phase buff... so u don't aggro any of the normal mobs.

Did this for the first time since the new patch, and the number of phase wyrms is back up again.

The mana cells took a lot longer to disappear once collected, they hand around for nearly 10 seconds.

I don't know if this is a new addition or not, but I feel like someone should mention the gigantic elite dragon hovering above the place. I just swooped in on my flying mount and nearly got killed.

The quest is bugged now, after patch 4.0.1 the quest item doesn't work so you can't see neither wyrms or the boxes.

Bugged for me as of 4.0.1. The phasing device seems to only half-phase me. The regular world enemies disappear, but the phase world enemies and objects do not appear. The visuals are not fully phased either.

Not sure if anyone else is still doing this, but it appears that the phasing for this quest was broken after 4.0.1! Sadly, after using the item, you are phased, but there are no wyrms and no cells to be seen anywhere. G'luck!

Same issues for me... no phase wyrms, no mana cells. Reported to GM in game, received in-game response in chat, said it is NOT a bug, and although they cannot give any hints, the player just has to be in the right area. I use Carbonite, i knew it was the right area, even went to coordinates that people posted on here.... nada. Found the quest on the official WoW forums, blue posts:

This is a known issue at the moment. I'd check back on this after the next patch, it's not you, they really are not there :)

I've been flying around Bash'ir Landing for 30 minutes and I've not seen a single quest item or mob.
I'm not in a raid group and I was phased, so I'm starting to wonder if this quest is bugged or something.

Once you use the phasing device you get phased into an empty area.
No items no mobs either.

I've done this quest before in BC and know how to do it. I even unphased and got a new device and tried again. Nothing.

As of patch 4.0.3 this quest seems bugged, 8:09am Mountain Time 11/18/10 and Im there, phased, nobody else in the area for the last 30 minutes and there are no worms and no clickable mana cells.

Correct still bugged on 11/18/2010 but quit blaming Blizzard as Blizzard is no longer ppl need to understand that a messed up company named Activision is hiding behind the name Blizzard as it was it only profitable company it owns last year 4th quarter I know as I'm as shareholder and know Activision has set there own dev's up for Cata thats coming and all patches. The original Blizzard Dev's are on the beach enjoying their islands. Trust me its only going to get worst as the real Blizzard would have fixed this overnight!

I have tried to do this quest a couple times recently and neither the wyrms nor the mana cells show up when I am phased. Have the patches leading up to Cataclysm caused a glitch? I opened a ticket and receive in-game mail full of flowery thanks that could apply to any report of a bug.

The person who said this quest is super easy must be much higher level than I am. I thought that as a 74 Mage (clothie) I could handle this one without too much problem, but I got mobbed and died almost as soon as I got there.

The etherals that drop the device are not out there running around alone. I finally got one away from the main body of mobs only to find that it was immune to some of my Mage spells. I did get the device on the second drop though. One thing I found very odd-When I used mirror image on the etheral, the summoned images of myself would not attack the etheral!

OK so you use the phasing device and you get the "Jello" effect. The smuggled mana cells appear as pinkish-purple boxes that sparkle like normal quest items. You no longer have the problem of getting mobbed as only the phase worms appear as enemies and they were easy to take down though they left me alone unless I got real close.

BTW, the background music that played in the phased state is the same that is used when you die and are on your way back to the corpse. I didn't much care for that. The quest awarded me 5 justice points.

Why was this downrated? It's useful information to know that the bugs have been fixed on a quest. Better to downrate the bug reports than the report that the bugs are fixed.

the worst part about this quest is getting the phasing device, I have been round the whole area killing everything twice and it still hasn't dropped. Grrr hopefully it will tomorrow.

Just completed quest on 70 prot pally. Took killing 3 etherials to get the phase device, once I clicked on it all I could see were the worms and glittering loot to pick up. Only took a few minutes to complete. Don't forget to get to a safe spot before you unphase, or you will end up in the middle of a mob. The quest is a lot easier than it used to be when I did it with my main a long time ago.

first time it dropped on the second kill. next time it took 37 kills before it dropped. this daily is hard work cos u need to fly to an fro from shatt an the drop rate is very erratic. Although when you phase it looks sort of like a hard mdma / ket trip

Had to kill 8 Unbound Ethereal until the phase device dropped.

Then you can see the mana cells. Flying mount works while phased so I just flew around until I gathered 10. The worms are all nature damage

First of all, you need a bird! Then fly to the mentioned 51,15. If you don't have coords, get them! Find an Etheral you can single-pull(the other guys are lvl 70-72).I got my phase device on the first kill (lucky i guess), Right-click on the device, the screen then gets all blury and you just run around collecting all the smuggled mana cells (they're all over the place). There's a few phase wyrms around, but they're no big problem, and they drop motes of mana. Pretty easy money :-)

Just lvl'd to 70, druid - Feral. Easy Daily. Lucky I got the device first drop, turned on and gather mana cells (killed two wyrms) less than 5 min total...
If I may comment in regards to farming/grinding... I learned several things in this game as a soloist... 1] you must farm to a certain amount to 'BUY' required items... transportation being one... I also learned that one does NOT always need a profession... I have Mining and Herbs ONLY along with First aid, Fishing and cooking... I grind minerals and herbs and sell them at going rates in AH... Doing this over time I have learned the locations of almost all the items I farm (including most treasure chests...) allowing me now to easily raise money in short amounts of time... and now as I lvl 70 the money is even easier... dailies pay well and you earn honor points to get equipment... actually I like to grind at times just for cooking and fishing... and the cloth for bandages as well as donations... grinding or farming is a necessary part of the game I think, just look at the dailies... same thing... the more you do it the easier it becomes... patterns form - you develop routes... you learn what to look for... it's NOT hard...

I've been catching a ride at Blackwind Landing which gets me to Skyguard Outpost in Blade's Edge . . . then it isn't quite so far to make it on your own and it's a free trip besides. Besides, if you're a miner or herbalist, you can be gathering while en route.

I don't mind this quest since the WoLK expansion. In fact, I look for the phase wyrms to locate the mana cells, and slay all I can since it's good XP again! Yea!

This quest is part of the content that was designed to be reached only by flying mount. If you are a lvl 70 who does not have a flying mount, then do what most of us do and grind the Quel'Danas Island dailies until you have enough gold. Should take about a week of daily play.

Your location is not important if you don't say how to get there on FOOT, or on land mounts. Not all of us have the funds to afford a flying mount, so tell us how to get there on foot. I deleted a tons of these quests, because it requires flying, and I'm sure there's a lot of players that don't use the gold farmers are in the same situation at lvl 70. Also why post the XP, you stop getting it after you reach 70, and it's not banked, nor is it given to hunters' pets 100%, which is a darn shame too. It would speed up the pet leveling a lot faster.

This quest seems to be broken in the Wrath Pre-patch. It seems as if both the boxes as well as the mana wyrms are not appearing at all, either phased or not. I can only assume that the two are related, as they are all that can be seen when phased.

Edit 09/02/22: This issue now appears to be fixed. I was able to phase and both wyrms and boxes were visible and interactable.

We must maintain the energy to our portal or it will collapse. The mana cells that the ethereals at Bash'ir Landing have hidden will continue to serve our purposes. The landing sits atop the northwestern corner of the Blade's Edge Mountains, far to the north.

Remember, acquire a phase device from one of the ethereals and then use it to locate the smuggled goods.

Just be cautious of the phase wyrms that they use to guard the mana cells.
