Dropped by last boss of Heroic Urgrade Keep. No reason not to do heaps of H-UK runs (they are one of the easier heroics) when you hit 80 due to this being the best pre-raid helmet for a hunter (and only 1 with a meta socket). Also because the same boss also drops https://www.wowhead.com/cata/item=37191 too :)

Very nice indeed! On my 3rd run, the Plunderer dropped both this Helmet and the Drake-Mounted Crossbow https://www.wowhead.com/cata/item=37191 ::]

Actually, the Helmet of the Shrine out of heroic Gundrak also has a meta socket, but may not be as useful to Hunters because of the expertise in place of crit. (Shamans will like it.) But it's also got a lot more Stamina and Intellect, so if you can't get Plunderer's to drop, it may be a viable alternative.

Edit: This comment has been continually downranked since I posted it. I don't understand why people would downrate comments that are useful to other players, in this case knowing that there is a second pre-raid level 80 helm WITH A META SOCKET available to mail-wearers. I'm assuming it's being downrated by Hunters who feel they shouldn't be bothered with looking at an item that has expertise, but it's kind of crazy that Hunters would downrate this comment when so many of them are running around with expertise gear like Hemorrhaging Circle and Cult's Chestguard. Other players might be helped by knowing there's a second pre-raid helm with a meta socket, so stop the immature downranking, please.

Slap a relentless earthstorm with either a delicate or bright scarlet ruby and you'll melt faces as any mail-wearing DPS class (Hunters in particular) The 3% critical damage bonus is similar to the MM talent, so how can you lose?
