To challenge him you need to become a Champion. That means 3 days of dailys to be a Valiant, then 5 more days of Dailys for champion.

when i dueled him on my death knight, i noticed he took some extra time to /flex. but he also took his helm off and he had a bald head with a monocle. did i miss some sort of significance to his actual identity (not the monty python part =P)

I think the Black Knight's mount should have been called "An African Swallow"...then again, African Swallows are non migratory.

i personally did not unmask him. when i dueled him he was just on his gryphon i fought him and my last attack was the charge. he just died BOOM hes on the ground. but it let me finish the quest turned it in and got the achievement.

to answer a previous post: to challenge him you must have done the quest chain and the last quest will be available when you become a champion. then take the quest and talk to the squire who is at the champion's arena place where you do the chamion's daily to beat other riders. he calls the black knight you kill him. when you kill him you do not immediatly get the achievement. to get the achievement you must turn in the quest.

another thing that i noticed is the fact that the humanoid "cult of the damned" members that i killed during the quest chain counted towards my daily for killing scourge. i thought it odd and i little while later went to sindragosa's fall to see if it worked there. it did so now i have found the best spot to do that daily quest. its just south of the argent tournament grounds.

another thing i noticed during the actual fighting of the black knight was that he NEVER put up a shield so all of my attacks did full damage and fell in 15ish seconds. shield breaker is (almost) useless here. i fought hime with my shield sup but i do not think that it would be nessicary.

additionally i HIGHLY recommend doing this quest chain as it unlocks the "missing" daily quest. what i mean by missing is that if you have not done this quest chain you undoubtedly noticed that you were only getting 3 marks of the chamion a day and there are many posts on wowhead that indicate there being 5 a day. just trying to help out.
