This drop is a mini ice elemental pet. Use the Ice Chip to learn the pet, the Frigid Frostling.

It has the same model as many earth elementals (lots of floating and rotating boulders), but is icy, when it remains in one place it leaves an ice patch below it/icy trail behind it. There is a lovely little snowball throw it does to random individuals around it. It is probably the same model as the first add when fighting Ahune, only smaller of course.

Out of my first 20 tries I have had it drop 3 times, unfortunately twice on the same character and not yet on my main :(

This dropped for me on the third day of doing Ahune from the Satchel of Chilled Goods.

Note that this pet gives a "buff" that gives you a freezing look (much like the rose petals).

When idle, it throws snowballs at me (like lil' K.T. is shooting at critters) :D

Wonder if the Fiammetta Rovente (scorchling) and the ice chip will fight if they get close, being that they are both opposite elements

Ran this boss every day without fail on all 3 of my 80's..

Got 3 Scythes, countless capes and tons of emblems, didn't see this drop once.

Dropped twice for me over the 7 days I did the boss.
Also while I have had it out it does a rumbling emote, but I haven't seen it do any visual emote worth notice.

Got the cape 1st day, staff on the 2nd, and ice chip on 3rd. Figure the odds on that one.

5% chance according to this site for it to be found in the bag. However, do we know if you can receive another ice chip when the pet has already been obtained? If you can't, then the odds of it will be higher than the data obtained here suggests since many people will have been continuing to run this world event after already obtaining the pet and obviously never receiving another ice chip.

In 4.3 several (almost all) holiday pets were changed to become tradeable. For some reason this one and the slime from Love is in the Air were not. I hope they correct that prior to the patch.

Not even sure why they bothered with something like the squashling. That one is so common you don't need to trade it. In 2011 I couldn't collect 10 consecutive candies without getting another squashling to destroy. Meanwhile the ice chip, which my alts have all gotten mutliple times, continues to elude my main. I did save one on an alt though, in hopes that someday they'd make it tradeable.

If you are really desperate for this, make sure you run the dungeon on all your alts. With the changes in MoP, even if you get it on an alt, your main will get it also.

I'm very lucky with this pet drop, I got it the second run! Good luck to all other pet hunters out there! This made my 129th total non-combat pet. So excited! :)

For the 2012 holiday, this is still BOP and still comes out of just the bag that you can loot once a day on each of your 84/85 toons. The fight is very quick, and requires very little in the way of actual tanking. You can't trade it with other players, and there's still no way to buy it from the holiday vendors. Good luck, all you pet collectors.

Since pets is now account wide, my old post no longer fill it's function, most pet collectors have many alts, and with many alts the % increase of pet drop increases if you do this everyday with all alts.

OLD POST: Last year I did this everyday on one character which means 14 satchels opened, but this year I came back with my main AND 6 alts, done it everyday so far and will continue til midsummer ends.

70 satchels this year + last year 14 satchels ~ 84 satchels

Pets like this should be able to be sold.. My friend has gotten 3 Ice chip, with alot less runs then me, and what does he do with them?
He throws them all away now. Is that what blizz want?

I think I deserve this pet now.. from 70 runs.. and so do you!
Please blizzard make this pet BOE so all of us desperate pet collectors can buy em for insane prices.

LAST EDIT: Got the pet on my 84th satchel, finally... But something like this, that you can only do once a year should not have this low droprate anyway, and if you really want to have low droprate on the pet, it's fine, as long as you make it BOE.

A suggestion for people: if you already have this, don't destroy it! Keep the little devil in your bank. It might be BoP, but in MoP we'll be able to box up pets and sell the 'boxes' on the AH. Keep yours around and there is always the chance that in MoP, you will be able to box your old one and sell it. A chance for those of us who are having bad luck!

I got this today today for the first time ever and it showed up an achievement type note saying Ice chip first time? either i have been very lucky indeed or this happens quite alot? anyone else had this?

Have been trying to farm it this season using all of my lvl 89+ alts. Probably about 20 attempts so far with no luck. If I use all my alts everyday I should be able to squeeze in about 30 more attempts. Really hope that I get it :)

Has the drop rate increased on this or something? I ran Ahune from 2009 to 2012 on my main and never got it; once on an alt in 2012, and it dropped first time. This year, I've got it once on my main, and just now on an alt. Which means nowadays, cut out the inexpensive middleman, and buy it from AH.

This can't have anything to do with good luck on my behalf, because that totally never happens.

*EDIT*

I just got it again on my main. Three times in less than a week. This is ridiculous.

Last year I did like 40 attempts (used 2 chars) not seen this, now this year I had ready 17 chars (not joking, tired of bad rng), got one the first day, 2nd run, didn't take long... 1 week running in with less and less chars (was actually 15 the first day cause my 2 mains didn't need the cloak) as they got the cloak, and I got 4 drops in total. 4% so 1 in 25, shouldn't be too hard to get for anyone with 5 + alts running every day.

I'm so glad I got this, this year. I didn't even know about the pet until told me it was available, but I was really sad to hear that you can only try for it over a small period of time a year and that you needed a level 100 to queue for the instance because I only had 1 max toon. I don't pet battle at all but I definitely will get into it sometime soon because I have a lot of rare pets already like Melmina Disgustosa so this is a great addition to my pets.

It took me only 3 tries. I was really, really surprised to get this on just the 3rd try. I hope everyone else gets lucky enough to get this, this year too.

I got this after perhaps 8 runs during Midsummer Festival (only one so far). Once you use it then it becomes Frigid Frostling pet.

I swear they lowered the droprate on this because I've only seen two people get it so far this year, and I've been running the boss on every character daily.

Why the downvotes? Seriously... 2 drops out of over 600 kills is ridiculous.

Just got it (july 7th 2022) on my lvl-ing BE paladin (lvl 51/60). First time in (5? 7? ) year doing it on multiple alts.
