The only way to get this is to craft it. No mobs can be skinned for Heavy Knothide Leather directly.

i'm not positive of this quite yet, but as far as i can tell the only way to get the recipe for heavy knothide leather is from the leatherwoking supplier in Shattrath at about 67, 67 costs 5g at neutral

Eh. Well, I followed the guide on the official proffesions-forums, and it said (for leatherworking) that I should learn to make Heavy Knothide Leather at 325, but I didn't. So, how or where do I learn to make Heavy Knothide Leather?

The recipe for Heavy Knothide Leather is now available from leatherworking trainers (rather than a vendor recipe).
Also several recipes changed so you have to use Heavy Knothide Leather instead of regular Leather.

I wish they were that cheap on my server... they're approx 9g each, and that's the only person selling it that cheap. The rest are around 13g each.

It will requir you to have leatherworking to make and 5 knothide leather there a bit expensive on my realm 600 gold for a stack so i just farm it myself.

Here in a link for a video that shows the ABSOLUTE BEST spot to farm knothide leather. The video is from oct 2012 so everything is it is still working in MoP. Good luck : )

You don't get any scraps by doing this so it makes it much faster then anything else. You can rlly take your LW through knothide and heavy knothide within an hour this way!

(As of patch 5.3)

Ground floor of Karazhan is a good place to get Knothide leather to make this. The bats and hounds skin for 1-3 each consistently, with no scraps. After you've killed them all you can just nip outside, reset and repeat.

In the same area you have the spiders, which will sometimes drop Netherweb Spider Silk , handy for tailors too.

Don't some beasts drop Heavy Knothide Leather directly? I know I've seen it, in Nagrand mostly so far. There ought to be a "Dropped By" tab here, but there isn't.
