What's new in Patch 7.2.5?
Protection Warriors haven't actually received a ton of change in Patch 7.2.5, but they received a really good one!
absorb amount increased by 20%. This buffs Warriors against spell damage quite a bit. Spell damage is one of the spec's biggest weaknesses, so this is a welcome change.
now increases maximum health by 20% (was 25%) and maximum effect of
by 20% (was 25%). Protection Warriors had widely moved away from
in favor of
. This solidifies that choice even through early progression, when burst damage is at its most dangerous.
damage reduced by 12%. This is about a 4-5% overall DPS nerf under normal circumstances. Losing damage is never cause for celebration, but Protection Warriors have been absolutely demolishing other tanks on DPS for a while, so this is an understandable nerf. Warriors are still
after this change, and prioritizing
is a smaller DPS loss than before.
can only be extended to a maximum of three times its base duration. This is a change targeted primarily at Brewmaster Monks, and should have almost zero effect on Warriors under even the most extreme circumstances.
Tier 19 Protection 2-piece: You gain 10% (was 20%) increased chance to critically block while
is active. A necessary nerf to the incredibly-strong T19 2-piece. While a bit of a bummer that we lose some of its power right as we start into Tomb of Sargeras, this makes giving it up in favor of new gear much easier to swallow.
Protection Warriors also received two new Legendaries in Patch 7.2.5, so here's a quick breakdown on them:
are Legendary pants that grant one additional charge to both
. This has the potential to be great in the right situation, providing extra defenses when you need them most. Under normal circumstances, the existing "best in slot" trifecta (
) will remain better.
is an interesting new ring that is usable for all 3 specs. As Protection, it provides access to
. This allows a Warrior to take
at the same time, which is great! It is inferior to the existing "best in slot" legendary trifecta (
), but it's a good option for Warriors without them.
