Also found in Grummle Bazaar at Kun-Lai Summit at 64, 61 inside the inn. A nice short story, and a fine example of how willpower can overcome even the toughest of luck.

That is, until some Joker bombs your love to pieces, leaves you half the man you were with twice the face, and mind screws you into becoming a raging sociopath.

Excerpt from page 1 of "Grumyan e Generali":

"If fortune favors us, we will win the day," the General answered, scanning the horizon.

Here, he spoke of matters the grummle knew intimately well. "Fortune is so fickle! How do you know it will favor you?" he asked.

This doesn't quite make sense, the way they worded this -- General says "if (x) then (y)". Grummle's question of "why/how (x)?" doesn't follow the General's statement cohesively.
The General makes a statement of condition, which the Grummle then asks "how do you know it'll happen?" even though the statement it follows wasn't an absolute statement -- it was conditional.

It would be much better, and I think get the intended meaning across more effectively, written as such:

"Fortune favors us -- we will win the day," the General answered, scanning the horizon.

General says "(x), thus (y)". Grummle's question of "why/how (x)?" now logically follows the General's statement cohesively.
General makes a statement of absolute truth, "(y), because (x)". Then the Grummle, in response to that absolute statement of truth, asks "ok, but how do you know (x) is true?" / "why/how (x)?" That follows logically.\

If this explanation doesn't really make sense, sorry, I tried to think about it and discern exactly why it didn't make sense, which is actually more difficult than I expected, especially then putting it into words. Intuition is one thing, trying to explain your reasoning in a way that makes sense is a whole other thing, lol. But here, an example of the original sentence, using different subjects, to see why it's weird:

Person A: "If it rains today, I'll drive home." / Person B: "How do you know it'll rain today?"
See? That doesn't make sense at all -- the response doesn't logically follow the first statement. What would follow the response is Person A then saying "Huh? I didn't say it would rain today. I don't know that it'll rain today. That's why I said 'if it rains today'."

TL;DR: Weird syntax in the original version of that line on page 1 of "Grumyan e Generali" -- drop the "if" at the beginning and it's perfect. I'm weird about languages and English is weird, so... weird2 ?

I love this kind of stuff with languages though. It's so interesting, and I find a lot of it intuitive anyway. I just wish I knew what careers could make use of a skill like this -- I've had "paralegal"/law pushed on me, but I don't know.
