just a quick note here... technically all you kill are AVATARS of the gods, not the gods themselves.
Where can I get those books you guys read? 8-)P.S. Lick King > Algalon, why? he gives T10 pieces y'all!P.P.S Sargeras' doing the same thing Deathwing's doing, he's recovering so he can wipe us out of our misery.
I think the problem with this entire thread is the suggestion that just because Algalon has the power to effectively reset the planet, killing everything in the process, that he's somehow more powerful than the king of the undead.Gameplay mechanics aside, if you take this element out of the picture; the drive to stop Algalon, all he really is is an alien envoy with a pre-disposition on how life should be run. He's not a brutal, malicious killing machine. Now looking at gameplay mechanics solely, what a lot of people need to realize is that measures of levels and hit points, etc. are only an aggregate representation of an individual's power or toughness in a fantasy setting. These values are not doctrine and should not be read as such.
Well that's the thing.... lorewise, and game play wise, the Lich King is a one trick pony: He kills you, and raises you from the dead, that's it. He's not a demon lord, able to teleport around and summon a literal endless stream of forces from the Nether to eat your face. He's not an Old God, able to take living beings and twist them into unrecognizable shapes and forms. He's not even an Aspect, with control over one of the central powers of existence. At the most, he is a demi-god..... and we've seen lots of Demi-gods die in Warcraft. Yes, he controls a massive army of Undead... but there is a finite resource for him; you've seen it in Game, then send you to burn dead bodies so they can't be raised up against us. We see people with the plague willing to let themselves die, as long as someone is there to take them out right after. The Lich King isn't unbeatable, he's just a mortal shell, and well... I still think if a high ranking member of the Legion(Kil'jaeden or one of his commanders) got near him, they could snap their fingers and unravel all the magic that is inside of the armour, turning it and Frostmourne inert and useless. But Algalon is a creature of the Titans; had he hit the reset switch, that would have been it, Azeroth, and all it's beings: Old Gods, Aspects, Demi-Gods and the rest, gone, kaput done with. Yes, He himself is not a titan... but he's on the same level of power like Loken, Hodir, Thorim and Freya, and they had been keeping an Old God imprisoned for years, till one of their kind fell to the corruption and turned on the others.
I have a few questions regarding the Titans and this seems as good a place as any to ask 'em.First: If the Titans created Azeroth, did they create the Old Gods? I'm guessing no, but if that's the case, where the heck are they from? Speculations, at the very least.Secondly: Did the Titans create the other worlds of the cosmos (Draenor, Argus, etc)? And, if so, why do they all (but Sargeras) reside on Azeroth?
First Question: Depends on which thing your reading, it sounds like the Titans either found Azeroth and re-shaped it, and before that happened they had to fight and seal away the Old Gods before they could finish. Or, and this is the other view; they shaped Azeroth and left, then returned to find the Old Gods wreaking havoc, fought them and sealed them away, then reshaped the world again.2nd: No clue... but more then likely. As for the why; because it's easier for Blizzard?
Only the Naaru have the space travel capacity(or so it seems anyways). They mention in rise of the Horde that quite a few planets were consumed by the Legion as they pursued the Draenei and the Naaru, and those worlds weren't able to escape their addition to the Demon forces. Even the whole Draenei arriving on Azeroth thing was an accident; they fled to the Exodar, tried to use the planeshifting engines(warp drive?) and because the Blood Elves sabotaged/attacked it, they failed and ended up crashing into Azeroth instead.
As far as the 'mortal' (that term is very, very, very vague in WarCraft) races go, yes. However are the Titans not at least one step above that? I mean, Algalon seems to be of a celestial nature. All of the Ulduar instances are filled with various globes. I'd say the Titans can get from planet to planet. Now that I think about it...
Great read, indeed. But remember what we had in Vanilla: a (presumed) weakened form of Ragnaros(elemental lord)->Onyxia - black broodmother ->Nefarian - badass black dragon -> C'thun - Old God himself -> KayTee! - some pimped lich. Kind of retarded, right? In the real power scale it must've been like KT(merely a lich)->Onyxia\Nefarian(dragons)->Ragnaros(one of ELs, prime servants of OGs)->C'thun(everliving OG). But in those times, power scaling wasn't as important as new content. Then, in TBC, Blizz probably wanted to fix this issue. Raids started with Malchezaar\Nightbane\Magtheridon\Gruul(they were quite strong beings, but not enough to be compared with next tier). Then Vashj\Kael'thas(although alone they are not stronger that previous bosses, the power difference isn't too big). Then Illidan\Archie!(Illidan nearly soloed Magtheridon and Arthas(O_o)\ Archie is a badass demonlord and looser). Everything seemed quite fine, the main villain was killed, the power scaling was balanced. But again content......do you really think Zul'jin could stand alone against...Nightbane? But the lewt was better...But the real point is the patch 2.4. This was one of the best things Blizz made in WoW. A continuation of the villain storyline(Illidan betrayed even his master, KJ), Blizz added the whole new area, lore and(nearly) tier of gear. KJ was really a much bigger threat than Illidan, so Blizz made him in a weaked-after-summon(Rangaros=)?) state, so that players could defeat him(also with Kalec's help). This was the TRUE ending of a Burning Crusade campaign(considering Sarge inactive enough). Now in WotLK, Blizz again has made lore sick. The beginning with Naxx\OS was fine. But placing one of the Aspects along with a lich and some mature dragon...ridiculous. The addition of Ulduar was fine, YS is definetly stronger that any of previous bosses(including Malygos), and Algalon was just OP=) BUT, Artie is still a pain in the ><. Even after planetary threat, Blizz didnt want to give us Artie. They've made a 5-man boss 25-man boss! Woot! Faesrol rly. And only now we can face the supervillain. So let's sum it up. Before Artie, we've faced: his puppet KT, a dragon, the Aspect, the Old God, the (~)Titan, and a BUG(rly). Seems that Blizz didnt learn the lesson of Vanilla. In TBC-like scheme, it would've been like: raids start with ToC-OS, followed by OS(and maybe VoA remade, or any other similar raid) -> Malygos and ICC. Malygos should be like Arthas.(Remember Archie - Illidan). And THEN, even if it doesnt suit with LK storyline, Blizz should've implemented Ulduar, where YS and Algalon would be greatest threats to Azeroth.Soooo, why am I writing all this? A short lore\history lesson and the example, of how Blizz does things in WoW=) So dont be surprised at this Algalon-Artie comparison.
I kinda have the feeling that Algalon himself isn't that powerful. Sure, he's a big, dangerous dude, but it isn't HIS job to "reoriginate" Azeroth, that's the Titans' job. Algalon merely alerts the Titans to the fact that Azeroth is getting out of hand and needs to be fixed. I guess you could say that Algalon is the Titans' janitor or something :S.
