This item is added in patch 5.3, and drops from Quivering Filth (the large elite one).

The item learns you the mini pet Filthling, which can be used as a battle pet. This item is BoP, but you can learn the pet and then cage it in order to trade it to anyone else.

This pet will most likely be pretty easy to farm, due to the fact that there is a lot of mobs in the big pool in Ihgaluk Crag, and they go down easily, as well as spawn fast.

Do we know how to force the elites to spawn?

After the hotfix earlier this morning this item is now correctly dropping from the large elites. ~30 elites killed, 2 drops.

Cory Stockton hinted at a possible way to force the elites to spawn. I suspect it involves releasing a certain amount of the Sudicio stacks from smaller adds within a certain amount of time. I encountered no elites in my first 20 minutes of farming the area alone, killing 1-2 small adds at a time. When I started using Corno da Battaglia to pull 6-7 small adds and AoE them down it was almost a guaranteed elite spawn.
When not alone, like when the daily to attack those is up, with a lot of people killing small adds simultaneously then the elites will be fairly common and will be a race for the tag.

I found a pretty good method to farm this. This will likely only apply to those like me who are lucky enough to farm on a dead server.

First off, this ONLY drops off the elite filth.

Start out by going to the central area (the place where they spawn that is most like a circle) round everything up and then travel over to the other side and pull as many as you can. While AoEing the little ones down, make sure to pull ALL respawns.

When you get an elite to spawn, follow a pattern of killing everything in the circular area and then switching to the narrow spawn area. Continue going back and forth like this, allowing one side of the spawn area to repopulate while you are taking out the other.

Eventually you will get 1-2 elites spawning on each side as they respawn. Keep in mind that in order for this to work, you can't really take a break. The small kills have to come out at a near-constant rate. This is subject to bad luck and you may have a few periods where no elites are spawning. Just keep killing, they WILL spawn.

uselessx mentioned using Corno da Battaglia to help gather them up. I suggest only doing this in the circular spawn area, where you are least likely to also pull large groups of Sauroks.

Good luck! The drop rate seems to be somewhere around 1-2%

EDIT: It seems that it will ocassionally put a buff on you - Sudicio - it will turn you slightly yellow/brown for 10 seconds.

I was gathering up oozes and AoEing them down and the Elite Filths started spawning, fairly quickly. Roughly 1-2 every 3-5mins (non stop gathering and AoEing). Got my pet on the 6th kill on 5/24/2013.

I killed some small filths until an elite one showed up and got it on my first try, guess I just got lucky. o.o Elite ones definitely drop it though, dont know about the small ones.

I got mine from the elites as well. When the daily is not up i find it to be somewhat of a grind. I found just kill small Quivering Filth for a bit and the one elite would spawn in their place every 10-15 minutes. On a populated server like mine, i found it a fair trade off to farm when daily is not up( less competition as well as less ganking while pulling large groups). Finally mine dropped after 2 hours and 12 min on bleeding hollow at 2 A.M.

Went there, killed about 3 elites in 5 min got the first pet. Then I was like ... nice, let me get another for my gf. Spent another 2h there, elites respawning every 10 min or so, 0 new pets.

The moment i wrote this and tabbed back there was a new elite. Killed it, dropped pet again. So yeah expect to get 1 pet per hour or 1 at every ~10th elite.

The drop rate isn't too bad. I went on an alt that's on a dead server (I rarely see anyone on IoT) so noone was around and I farmed them non stop for about 2 hours and had 3 drop. I didn't have a kill counter on so I don't know the exact amount that I killed but I killed them whenever as soon as they spawned so that should give an idea of how many it was.

When farming/clearing the area alone, as a ranged class, I found if you just clear the larger circular area of the pool to the west side, you would have a consistent pattern of killing 3 filths, and having 3 new filths immediately spawn nearby (with any potentially being an elite that can drop the pet), over and over again. (Very occasionally that number of kills required/respawns seemed to drop to two, I don't know why, but it never lasted long.)

If you're the only one farming the area, try clearing everything in range until you're getting instant nearby respawns after killing two or three. I found it much more comfortable to know when and approximately where things would spawn, and rarely having to fuss with sauroks because I wasn't moving around very much.

Using this method I got 3 filthlings in 2 hours, with the filth always respawning in range and when expected, so I'd always know when and where to look for an elite. Good luck!

I farmed for another 10 minutes, but then my LFR queue popped.

I've farmed 3 of these now, one for me one for GF and one to sell. I can 100% confidently say that there is no trick with stacking filth or anything like that. Its as simple as this, the quivering filth have a dynamic respawn, any respawn has a chance to be elite. So if you kill them faster, the more likely you are to see an elite one. I have seen as many as 3 up at a time and I've seen 3 spawn within 20 ooze kills and I've seen 0 spawn in 50+ kills. So long story short, the faster and more you kill the faster you'll see an elite and have a chance at pet. The filth stacks, other than scaling with health, do nothing other than being for the daily quest.

My method for farming was to pull all on one half and AoE them down (BrM monk). If less than 3 respawned in the same half, I got to the other half and AoE there. The smaller oozes move so slow that they don't keep up with SCK and aren't worth trying to pull one side to the other half. The elite oozes can move fast enough (while at high health) for this so I'll often drag them around spamming kick and pulling more.

P.S. Its best to do this quest when neither horde nor alliance have the daily that involves killing these to collect filth.

As a tank I continuously AOE pulled everything in the pit. It took me about 30 minutes and 160 kills of the non-elite ones to force enough elite ones to spawn to get the pet.

As mentioned on other posts, keep killing the non-elites to force the elites to spawn. The pace wasn't very bad, and because of the gems that dropped it was semi-profitable. I just keep pulling everything in the pit and also some of the mobs on the sides just to keep vengeance up and myself busy.

Not sure if it is a 100% drop but I just came to the pit because I was bored and remembered that there was a new pet somehow related to the Quivering Filths. Saw one of the big elite Filths and it dropped. First and only mob I killed.

*Happy me* - (I usually have no luck at all with pets/and mounts taking hours or days to find them.

Obtained on Azgalor server, 10:44am CST. 22 August 2013.
Elite quivering Filth's killed: 10

65 x Filth Encrusted Tooth (from both elite and non elite Filth's)
3 x Filth-Contaminated Gem
1x Half-Empty Food Container

I killed exactly 10 of the ELITE quivering filth mobs, it dropped off the 10th one.

I did not spend much time farming, but my server is DEAD, so I got lucky and first started when 3 elites were already spawned. I killed those as my focus, killing smaller ones in between, another 2 elites spawned almost immediately after.

Having to take about a two hour break to do RL stuff, I logged off, when I came back approx 2 hours later, another 3 elites were spawned. I killed those 3, again, almost immediately another 2 elites spawned. I killed those, and on my 10th loot, the pet was there.

After killing the elites each time, i DID clear ALL of the normal mobs in the area 1x as well. This could have forced the elites to spawn quicker, perhaps?
I spent maybe a total of 30mins farming these guys.

UPDATE: 11:54AM CST, 22 August 2013 -
Logged back in again after approx. 1 hr offline, no elites up, cleared all the normal mobs in the area, got 1 more gem. 2 Elites then spawned, BOTH dropped a Half-Empty Food Container.

This brings the total to:

12 Elites killed
86 x Filth-Encrusted Tooth
4 x filth-contaminated gems
3 x Half-Empty Food Container

Killed it once while doing a day of random dailies, the big one made it quicker to finish. Got the pet to my surprise.

I can verify that this pet only drops from the Elite mobs. Spent 3 hours farming this pet out of curiosity and killed 1000 mobs. For approx. every 25-30 killed an elite will spawn. The elites, at an estimate, seem to drop the pet out of every 4-5 kills. Best bet to force this drop (which worked every time for me), is to allow 5 elites to be up at the same time and then mow them all down. In the three hours I received 6 Filthlings.

Obviously as a 545 ilevel boomy it isn't hard to smash the mobs down quick to force 5 elites to spawn then blown all 5 elites up at the same time. Also made over 2k gold in vendor trash. The pet is currently listed by others in AH on my server for 3k.

Hi guys, I thought I'd contribute for once.
The moment I saw this guy here on Wowhead I knew I wanted him, so I researched the drop and went straight for it.
It doesnt take quite as long to get this as, say, Reins of the Ravenlord or something similar, but you have to put in a good couple of hours. I finally got it after 3 or 4 "farming sessions", which is about 2-3 hours each. During the last one, the elites suddenly started to spawn like crazy and I got 3 elites instantly in wave after wave. I have no idea why, because the first couple of times I almost didnt see them at all. Ironically, though, the pet dropped off a small filthling. Its hard to tell because I was always pulling them in clusters of 3-6, so because of the loot system now I'm not really sure exactly which mob that dropped it.

However, it CAN drop off ANY filthling in that pool! The elites are not exclusive in this manner! I'd also say the drop chance on wowhead is wrong....it's definately not 0.48%. I used an addon called Mob2Info that tells you how many times you've killed each type of mob. I think I had 200-300 kills every session, except for the last, where I got to about 50 before it dropped. The addon says the drop chance for the pet is 5%. I agree with that number, it seems legit and reasonable. Reins of the Ravenlord is 1-2%, and I spent 2-3 YEARS to get that. Getting the pet cost me just a couple of nights, so it's a pretty big difference. Your best bet is to steel yourself for some heavy farming but at the same time, be wary that it will drop and much sooner than you might think - if you just stick to it. Lady Luck might kick you in the balls, but eventually you'll get it. Good luck and hard work, that's what works.

I wanted to see if I could get this pet, so I killed like 15 standard Quivering Filths. Then I've looked at this page, seen that it drops on the elite ones. 1 minute after, I found an elite Quivering Filth. Killed it and I got my half-empty food container.

Just wanted to add in my experiences (to add to Magneith's comment above):
Farmed for about 65 minutes
Loot was
480 Filth-Encrusted Teeth
13 Filth-Contaminated Gem
1 pilfered mogu urns
12 pearl milk tea
3 random greens
7 motes of harmony.

I would also guess about 20g from the saurok wandering around.
I ended up extremely lucky and got 2 of the containers from my last elite filth.

i was feeling really lucky as i had just gotten onyxian drake from onyxia, so i went to farm this, was expecting to be there all day... first elite kill ( was already spawned) Dropped it for me... gotta be my birthday or something

i got 2 of them in less than 30 mins,(patch 5.4 as i am writing this) i was alone on the island so i didnt have anyone trouble me
Their respawn rate is incredibly fast,BUT know that they dont go very far until they evade everything and go back to their original spot,so be careful not to pull too many too far!

Just my two cents worth. I spent a total of 7 hours farming for this pet. I am not upset that it took so long. What upset me is a friend of mine came to Isle of Thunder after I got my pet and got his on his first elite kill. I was like grrr, but also I was happy he didn't have to spend as much time farming the pets as I did.

The 7 hours of farming really paid off though got my pet and about 1500 in vendor trash and a few green items I can either post on the AH or send to my mage to DE.

My RNG was bad today but am not complaining. Wishing everyone GL who is trying to farm this pet.

According to the data the drop rate is 0.3%, however in practice I have found it to be much higher (Counting in the fact it drops off the elites only)

Rarity (A great add on by the way) recorded 80 kills (It counts the normal mobs) before I got the first drop, this was off the forth elite version.

I continued farming but rarity stopped counting as I already had a drop, and received a second on my third elite after the first drop all together around 130 normal mobs.

Very easy to farm, I preferred it on a Hunter as I could range pull all the small adds, I'd assume a Mage or any class with good AoE can very quickly burst down the small adds to spawn the elites. All in all it took around 15-20 minutes for two drops.

The pet comes as a rare and can come in different breeds, my first was Health & Speed (+45%/+45%) and the second a Guardian (+100% Health).

It is a magic type, powerful against Dragonkin with a heal, DoT, 3 round attacks and a accuracy debuff in it's arsenal.

It will literally vomit on you and make a vomit sound, giving you a debuff that makes you "filthy"...

Took me close to an hour to farm one as a 545 elemental shaman. Had the area to myself and it dropped off an elite filth. After using the container, mine turned out to be a guardian breed.

I'm not sure if I'm lucky or not, but I have been farming these three times, first time I don't remember how long it took for me too find two of them, but it took probably around two hours. Also I was farming alone every time, and I'm a rogue.

But now the last two days I farmed these I found 6 of them in roughly 1hour 37minutes.
Day one I farmed them for about 1h or less and I Found 3 of them.
Day two I farmed them for about 37 minutes and I Found 3 MORE.
When I found my last one I got inspired to comment here.

Got it in about 15-20mins, not super hard to get and a decent pet to battle with, i would suggest you get it if you want to literally throw $%^& at your opponent, that's got to have some sort of moral effect doesnt it?

Dunno if the drop rate have changed, but back in MoP, i had a pet every 2-3 big ones kill.

Since WoD, it takes me 15+ kills to get one, quite annoying as after 30 mins of killing them, they spawn very slowly !

Got the pet in about 15 minutes on my Shadow Priest.
I started at one end of the pool, kept tagging every filth with shadow word pain as I ran to the other side of the pool.
Respawn rate is really fast so although my shadow word pain was killing them in 1-3 ticks, there was always filths to tag.
Doing this I managed to spawn roughly 2 elites every minute, sometimes i would spawn 0 in a minute other times 3-4 would pop up.

Took me 247 kills, roughly 20 mins maybe. And they respawn within seconds, btw, so find a comfy spot and stick to it :)

Got my pet off an elite. Tried the realm hopping thing and found other toons farming, so I just stuck to my own realm. Took quite a while. Almost 16 stacks of the teeth and 4 gems later and there it is. Just SW Pained them and when I changed back to a saurok I just lept from left side of pond to right.

Just got 13 pets over 1464 kills which is appx 0.9% chance of getting one, or 1 chance in 110

Definitely got buffed

I guess it may probably be something like 1% but I would have needed more attempts to reach closer to it
