Lol. Unless they changed the fight, better start making some friends that can deal frost damage and a team of melee dps. This will prove to be the hardest vanilla raid pet to get, by far.

Well... It was no where near cake, but it should be easier in MoP. Though you need to be prepared. Food buffs, potions, flasks, dw the fastest 1handers u can find, enchanted with frost dmg, use the right spec, time your abilities and Army correctly, and hope your RNG abilities don't screw you...

All of that is just for the final phase.

The most logical advice to get this is to make friends with a frost mage and or a melee DPS

If you happen to have a guildy or guildies who collect pets the same as you make a deal with them to keep running it until you both have the pet.

The final option if you are a melee DPS is to get the Incantamento Arma - Mortefredda or Olio del Freddo for this boss.

You need to deal 200 frost based attacks on the boss in order to make him freeze and then another 75 physical attacks while he is frozen in order to cause him to shatter.

Extremely easy for a hunter to solo.

1 - Tame a Chimera pet
2 - Cast froststorm breath till he is fully frozen
3 - Throw snake trap, beastial wrath and other CD's and nuke hard
4 - repeat till dead.

Something very important that I need to bring attention to - Please vote this up so it gets attention, because I wouldn't wish this on anyone else.

If your inventory is full when you win this pet, drop something and take it manually. Do not expect it to be mailed to you via The Postmaster. IT WILL NOT.

EDIT: After putting in a ticket, the GM said that s/he couldn't find the pet in the logs, so it's completely lost. So I say again. LOOT IT AND DO NOT RELY ON THE POSTMASTER.

Solo'd it as a fury warrior.

Took some 'helping hand' trinkets like the tiny voodoo mask (Piccola maschera Vudù). It's recommendable to have a similar trinket. Do not use this one, as I found out the gnomes tend to do more magic damage than melee.

Here's how I did it (note: this will likely work for anyone that can dual wield):
1. Take down Viscidus to 1 hp with my normal gear (excluding trinkets).
2. Used the Brunnhildar Great Axe (Grandascia di Brunnhildar) along with the Deathfrost enchant (Mortefredda). It took about 20-30 hits for Viscidus to get frozen solid.
3. I switched to two fast one-handed weapons (Thunderfury and a random fist weapon I had on my bank). Note: The damage/stats of these weapons is not important. Only the speed is. (In my case 1.9 MH, 1.8 OH).
4. Pop any haste cooldowns you may have (potions etc.): it takes about 30-40 melee hits to make him explode. Note: the window is still as tight as it was before.

Hope this helps out anyone that struggles with getting enough melee hits done in the tight window.

It would appear that Viscidus was further nerf in the last two days. I was able to successfully solo him on both a WW Monk and a Ret paladin. All I needed to do was buy a fast weapon enchanted with elemental force to freeze him and melee him once he was frozen.

It was fairly easy to shatter him, so I don't think any special requirements are needed beyond the fast weapon for melee.

For ranged classes, it may be necessary to bring along either a friend or a trinket that summons a pet. Frammento di Terracotta or Statuetta Quilen will help, and you can have both pets out at the same time.

This pet was introduced in patch 5.1 as part of 12 new Vanilla Raid drops. There are three from each raid: Nucleo Ardente, Fortezza dell'Ala Nera, Ahn'qiraj, Naxxramas. Though technically a Wrath of the Lich King raid, Naxxramas was first released into the game during the final months before The Burning Crusade.

Drop rate is not 100%. Collecting all these pets will complete Incursore animalista which gives a final pet, Signor Bigolo

According to Cory Stockton (Lead Content Designer for World of Warcraft), additional pets for TBC and Wrath raids will become available in the future. (source)

With patch 5.1 Viscidus became possible to solo. In addition, he can now drop Globulo di Viscidus. At the beginning of the fight start to generate . I ran some tests on the freezing of the Boss and I know how he can be frozen without the use of things like Olio del Freddo/Formula: Incanta Arma - Mortefredda. When you have 1000 , use and start spamming . I noticed that this ability freezes Viscidus, because it deals chaos dmg which is dmg in all seven schools: Physical, FROST, Fire, Holy, Shadow, Nature and Arcane. When the Boss is frozen, use Viltempesta and summon second Felguard via Rito del Servizio. This should be enough to shatter Viscidus. After shattering him just kill him. Good Luck and Have Fun!

If you happen to still have Campanella degli Inservienti dei Barov somewhere in your bank - it does the shatering job perfectly along with other trinkets that summon pets.
It saved my sanity yesterday when I was getting totally frustrated trying to farm the pet on my shadow priest.

And a bit of tip for shadow priests - Mind Spike does shadowfrost damage and freezes Viscidus - no need to buy extra frost enchants. There is a chance though, that your regular weapon might be not fast enough for shaterring Viscidus with the help of the trinket, I suggest getting fast weapon from Action House (anything below 1.7 should work).

Also, a very good tip from Alandro's and Jeststar's comments below:

Use Plagiamente since they stack with your haste and will give you a few extra hits.

Easy as Elemental Shaman

Frost Shock and Elemental Blast will freeze him up. If you are lucky you get a haste procc out of Elemental Blast the moment he freezes. Just pop Bloodlust/Heroism, pop Earth Elemental and just auto attack with primal strike on cooldown, jobs done!

as a shadow priest i found this impossible to solo. with a 1.8 speed weapon, 8000+ haste, and a shadowfiend, it was not able to hit it enough to shatter him

casters will need the help of some of the following to get it to shatter:

Baradin footman's tags (trinket) (Targhette del Coscritto di Baradin)
Antique Cornerstone grimoire (offhand) (Grimorio di Pietradura Antiquato)
Vanquished Clutches of Yogg-saron (trinket) (Chele Dominate di Yogg-Saron)
Vanquished Tentacle of C'Thun (trinket) (Tentacolo Dominato di C'thun)

Note: my crate of kidnapped puppies wasnt able to be summoned inside the instance. This item cant be used to help you here.

ok I'm a level 90 destro warlock, and I just got done battling Viscidus with just my Bastone della Volontà Incerta enchanted with a Incantamento Arma - Soffiavento and had a (Succubus)and still shattered him. He apparently doesn't need to frozen he does it himself it seems. unless there was something else I was doing and didn't realize it.

Just solo'd Vicidus on a hunter. Remembered I had Hurricane Uragano rotting in my bank. Pulled it out with the help of Jeeves, and wham. Dead goomonster.

Swapped to it when he was at 1HP.

I finally made an account on wowhead just to post this.

I've had my Lump/Blob/Whatever of goo for like 15 mins and i have to say, i haven't loved a pet like this until now.

He has the same model as the boss he drops from and the countless slimes players have killed thousands of, the thing is when you take a slime like this and shrink him down to pet size it makes it so much more lovable, kinda strange for a pet with not a whole lot of detail to be so lovable, he also doesn't really do anything, the way he moves when mounted is rather humorous, but his charm comes from the fact that he is tiny and the little details he has are also tiny, the Arrow that we see on the model, Now Tiny, The Stick we see, Tiny, the bones we see, Tiny.

With the Pet Battle System it makes it even more charming as where could such tiny things come from, thats right, pet battles. This here little goo is an Invulnerable Goo of Death, he cant be killed by lil tiny arrows, he cant be killed by lil tiny clubs and furthermore he uses the bones of his fallen does as a skeleton.

This pet is Great for a RP who whats to Make there pet RP some kind of tiny killing machine, or something like that.

I absolutely adore and love my Little Glob Of Goo.

It's really annoying having to pull someone that can do frost damage just for one pet. Could've done a much better job choosing a different boss to drop a pet. Maybe something like the giant centipede-ish boss in there? Or the insect-people. Either way, I hate having to bother guildies for something silly like this.

As a Mistweaver Monk, I bought a PVP 1 hander just for this boss and added Deathfrost Enchant to it. Worked like a charm and the pet dropped first try

I am a Boomkin and here is how I down this pain of a blob. I use my regular rotation until he is down to 1 health and then I switch to Fiocina di Brunnhildar and melee him until he freezes. Once he is frozen I use Frammento di Terracotta and switch back to my main hand and off hand and whack on him till he is dead.

After I downed him for the zillionth time today, I did have to Yell because I have yet to get Globulo di Viscidus to drop. Today is my Birthday so I was really hoping :(

Anyway, hope my information helps anyone who still has problems getting this guy downed.

You don't need a special Frost weapon, just use the Elemental Force enchant on any weapon (better on a fast weapon for the 2nd phase Shatter) as it includes Frost damage.

Effect School Damage (Fire, Nature, Frost)
Value: 2775 to 3225

It is both easy to obtain (Trainer taught) and cheap in materials. Works for both spell and melee attacks.

TO THOSE FREAKING OUT and coming up with crazy obscure strategies, items, and trinkets to beat this boss solo and get your battle pet...

Just go get a crappy vendor weapon (or one of the hundreds of xmog weapons sitting in your void storage) and enchant it with Forza Elementale.

You now have a perminant weapon you can use to solo the boss and break through his defenses.
Just pay attention to your emotes/combat text to see when he's becoming frozen, and attack fast with abilities both on and off the global cooldown!

You win!

Drop rate currently shows at 23%. I've been killing Viscidus on my rogue every week for five months now, and haven't had it drop once. After coming to Wowhead a few weeks back and reading all the comments about the Box of Puppies, I began taking four other toons each week as well. So that's at least 20 trips on my rogue and a total of 16 to 20 additional trips on the other toons. By now I've gotten about 15 Mini Mindslayers and 8 Anubisath Idols but still no Viscidus Globule drop.

I know all about RNG; I have terrible luck with it in general. But am I missing something? Is there something else I have to do first to have a chance at the globule dropping?

Edit: And, of course, as soon as I whine about it, it drops on my first run the very next week.

On a lv 90 destro lock.. to solo this..
I switched out my main weapon for an ilev 450 boa sword... (I went and got Blade of the Poisoned Mind) and enchanted it with elemental force. I equipped it when I got to this boss, pulled out my fel hunter (melee pet) and just kept rain of fire, dots, and spells going until he froze. Next, I popped my abyssal and I meleed him down with the sword (1.6 attk speed helped)

I am not really sure I could solo this boss on my mage though. Due to the melee requirement to kill him after he has been frozen.

Bring drums of fury if you need haste boost at the end. For non freezing class, just use elemental enchant. It will freeze the boss, eventually. There is no rush. Make sure to bring your fastest weapons. For range, I guess hero/drums plus auto-attack will do. Also you can bring trinks that pop adds (like pumpkins from Headsman trinket). As a fury warrior, I just freeze and BS/WS/BT...boss dies fast. One of my one hander has agility on it. Just get anything fast (2.6 and 1.8).

As for as drop rate goes..5/6 kills and no pet?

If you're having trouble as a Mage, I recommend the following (if you also do not have access to a spawning trinket)...

1) Go to the Auction House and buy a random dagger with the speed 1.60, that's the fastest you're going to get.
2) Buy (or make) a Potion of Speed and a Elixir of the Rapids.

Use whatever frost spells you want to freeze him, then when he freezes, use Time Warp, and pop your potion and proceed to melee him to death. It'll come close, but you should be able to accomplish it with this, and get your pet! Happy hunting!

I have been trying to get this companion recently. I have now been trying this on my frost mage. I can get this guy to freeze quickly but when he is frozen solid I cant get him to shatter. I am using a 1.60 speed weapon, a haste potion, hero, and icy veins. My pet is attacking him which must b the frost damage cause all I am doing is auto attacking. I just cant seem to shatter him. I am not sure what else there is to make my speed faster since it is at 1.10 with hero and everything else. Any tips on how to shatter him would be appreciated.

Drops from Viscidus from AQ40(~25% drop rate)

To kill Viscidus, you can't simply drain his health to zero. You have to freeze him by hitting him with ~25 frost attacks, then shatter him by hitting him with ~25 physical attacks, in addition to draining his health.

For those having trouble killing him, I made guides to kill him for all 11 classes. All of these guides are made for level 100 characters(Warlords of Draenor). If any of these become irrelevant in future expansions, I'll replace them. You can find them below:

I had probably the luckiest AQ40 run yesterday. After using @madseasonshow 's guide to kill Viscidus for the first time, this little fella dropped for me. After that I continued to kill the Twin Emperors and also got Vendetta di Kalimdor. I was stunned by my luck.

Just tested today. The Brunnhildar Bow on a hunter DOES in fact work. The moment it freezes, just unload everything you got. (no pet for me sadly this time)

True story: I was curious today about killing this boss with snowballs. Turns out it works and is super fast. Gather a bunch of Savage Snowballs Palla di Neve Selvaggia -they do 1 physical damage each(I got a bunch from the new winter veil dailies) you can also buy them on the AH. Put them on your action bar and spam once you freeze him up.

Yes you do still need to freeze him with the enchantments or frost spells, but for the physical part this was super easy. I'd imagine this will be most useful to mages and classes that have a hard time shattering him.

You can now use the 2016 Winter Veil gift Fulminatore Endotermico to freeze Viscidus. Just keep spraying him until he freezes, then click off the buff the toy gives you so you can attack for the shatter.

Just did this on my warlock. pet DID drop this time.
As I did not have anything in MoP Enchanting, I used Mortefredda.
Took awhile.. not sure how long the Forza Elementale takes. I kept reading stuff on wowhead while my poor lock poked away with a 1.6 speed dagger

As destruction warlock (and most likely any other spec of warlock) this is super easy.

1. Equip any dagger with 1,6 sec attack speed or less if you can find. (I used the "Glacial Blade" from Alterac Valley)
2. Enchant it with "Enchant Weapon - Elemental Force". Create this if you are an enchanter or buy it from the auction house.
3. Summon your voidwalker and let it attack the boss.
4. Start melee-attacking the boss. It might take 30-40 sec or more to freeze him.
5. As soon as the message "Viscidus is frozen solid" appears, summon your infernal and get back to melee attacking the slime.

You, your voidwalker and your infernal should now be attacking the boss with melee attacks and deal out almost 3 melee attacks per second. The boss is dead in around 15 seconds after freezing.

Do NOT cast any spells on the boss after it freezes. ONLY melee attacks count.

As of now patch 10.0.5 DF with the new talent Arctic Bola its easy to kill Viscidus as a hunter just spam Cobra shot for a couple of minutes then he will be ready to shatter.

Three viable solutions I've tested so far:

1. Any Spec Hunter with Arctic Bola talent - use Cobra Shot to proc Arctic Bola, just takes a couple of minutes to freeze Viscidus
2. Frost Death Knight - regular frost abilities will freeze Viscidus quickly, once frozen pop minions for additional melee damage. Dual wield works best for extra speed/hits
3. Any Spec Rogue (and assuming any other spec/class) with max level heirloom weapons (I used Balanced Heartseekers) enchanted with Deathfrost (requires a low level alt to enchant and then mail to your high level character).

Out of the three, the Frost DK and Rogue were pretty even in speed, with the Hunter coming a couple of minutes behind - but still feasible. Hope this helps!

Also remember you can a) ride your ground mount all the way to Viscidus, even if it appears "indoors", and b) you don't need to kill the other bosses first. Makes grinding for pet drops much easier!

Edit: Heirloom/Deathfrost has also worked with Fury Warrior.

Example Times for Comparison:

1. Frost Death Knight (2x Dragonflight Weapons) - 0:26
2. Fury Warrior (2x Heirloom with Deathfrost) - 0:29
3. Assassination Rogue (2x Heirloom with Deathfrost) - 0:43
4. Enhancement Shaman (Dragonflight Weapons, Frost Shock whenever off CD) - 2:13
5. Beast Mastery Hunter (Dragonflight Weapons, with Arctic Bola Talent) - 3:47
