Awesome and very useful. For me, magic pets are the hardest to find and tame, let alone farm for the rare version. This is a very wonderful item indeed.

This'll mean that the ton of BOE vendor or item drop Magic pets can be useful when you convert them to Rare.

Melmina Tossica, Lampada Magica, Lanterna Lunare, Lanterna della Celebrazione, Melmina Disgustosa and Scopa Incantata are good examples of great pets that are only limited by the fact that they are learned as Uncommon only.

Family specific Flawless Battle-stones can be found in the Sack of Pet Supplies obtained from performing Pet Trainer quests, and are Bind on Pickup.

If you are a serious rare pet collector, don't use the stones on your caught pets until you've upgraded all these first. They can not be upgraded in any other way.

Don't forget that in addition to the vendor, quest, and prof pets that you have listed that only come in uncommon this will save you days of camping when it comes to getting that rare quality Minfernale.

I got one! Off a oozeling in Borean Tundra. Didn't expect to get any of these as the rate seemed crappy.

Probably going to use on Legs or Willy.

Unless I can somehow get a Minfernal.

If you are going to use a flawless stone of any variety consider leveling the pet to 25 first. It will take the pet down to level 23 and you will get credit for hitting 25 both times on the level x number of pets to level 25 achievements.

To use this item you have to summon the pet you want to upgrade, target them and use it on them. Don't try to use it on pets while their in the pet journal like I did.

If you're looking at this page there's a pretty good chance you either need one of these stones or you found one and are curious what to use it on. If you need one, well.. good luck. The stones in general are about a 10% drop from bags and an extremely rare drop from killing Magic pets; and since there aren't many Magic pets out there, your chances are probably pretty low.

If you need to know what to use it on, there are many good options, but I'd highly recommend at least considering the Jade Owl Gufo di Giada
It is the only pet currently available that is both resistant to Aquatic attacks and does attacks that are strong against Aquatic creatures, making it quite unique. However, it is impossible to obtain a rare version of this except by using a Flawless Battle-Stone.

I used this on my level 1 Uncommon Jade Owl to make it Rare. But as it turned lvl 20, it went back to being Uncommon. I have made a GM ticket to see what's up with this.

GM couldn't help as the upgrade couldn't be verified.

I've gotten 2 of these from killing slimes in Borean Tundra. They are probably the fastest-respawning highler-level magic pets out there and go down pretty quick with a mechanical to kill the slime, and since the other pets tend to be aquatic it's a good place to level your Jade Owl as well. I went with the Jade Own upgrade first due to the fact it's an absolute nightmate to aquatic pets (classed as magic so takes reduced damage from aquatic, but moveset is full flying, which does bonus damage to aquatic).

Now I need to get serious about farming that Minifernal. And I didn't have any problems with my Jade Owl's quality changing when it hit 20, but that sucks bro especially with what a dominant pet it is vs. aquatics.

Just a note for everyone you can purchase these by trading someone your pet, having them use the stone on them and trading it back.

Lampada Magica is a good choice because it's one of only two pets with Wish (restores 50% of health to active pet on next move), the other being Astice Magico. I've seen these two pets used together very effectively together in PVP pet battles. None of the other lantern pets have Wish, so the Magic Lamp stands out in that regard.

Does anyone know if you can get battle stones if your character is below 90? When my pets hit 20 I started finding them, but only on my 90.

i found one of these magic battle stones while killing the Arcane Eye's near Karazhan, in the Deadwind Pass. The Arcane Eye's are level 17 and 18, and only 1 pet fights against you, so its very quick fights! Hope thats helpful to some of you who plan to farm these.

Using the Pietra Evolutiva Rara Magica

1. Go to your pet journal then select and summon the pet you want to upgrade.
2. Target the pet you summoned in step 1.
3. Right click on the Pietra Evolutiva Rara Magica in your inventory.
4. Don't panic - your pet still seems to be same quality and you suspect you wasted your stone - but....
5. Dismiss and summon again to see your shiny, rare quality (blue), lean, mean, fighting machine.

You CAN farm a specific type of Battle-Stone by battling pets of that same type. While you may occasionally receive some other type of stone, you definitely have a higher chance of receiving an aquatic stone by fighting aquatic pets, for example. I kept reading people say that the type of battle pet you fight has nothing to do with the type of Battle-Stone you receive, and that it's completely random. My experience had shown that not to be true, so I decided to do some testing and post my results in case anyone wanted to farm for a specific type of Battle-stone.

Battling Aquatic pets (which have 3 aquatic pets about 50% of the time, and 2 aquatic/1 flying about 50% of the time.) My results: 178 battles = 6 Aquatic stone, 1 Flying stone, 1 Humanoid stone

Battling Flying pets (which have 3 flying pets about 50% of the time, and 2 flying/1 aquatic about 50% of the time.) My results: 142 battles = 3 Flying stone, 1 Aquatic stone, 1 Critter stone, 1 Flawless Battle-Stone (which can be used on anything)

Battling Critter pets which usually have all Critters, and occasionally have a Beast in the group. My results: 96 battles = 3 Critter stone, 1 Beast stone

As you can see, it would appear that you can indeed farm a certain kind of stone. Just find an area where you want to level your lowbie pets that has the type of critters consistent with the stone you need the most of (usually Beast, Flying or Critter, since these types have the most pets that cannot be obtained above Uncommon quality.) Also, remember that if you've got one or two stones of a type you don't need, you can farm the additional one(s) to make 3, and then trade them in for a Marked Flawless Battle-Stone that can be used for any pet. If you're finding a lot of these, but want to upgrade a different-type pet, you can trade three of any family-specific battle stones to Audrey Burnhep (Stormwind 69.4, 25.1) or Varzok (Orgrimmar 52.5 59.3) for one Marked Flawless Battle-Stone.

I loved AMIB's post on Flawless Aquatic Battle-Stone, but as he/she hasn't been around for more then a year, I would like to continue the trend.

This is a list of uncommon-only pets, with alternative pets with the same set of abilities if present. The annotated pets were added in WoD.

Enchanted Broom - There are no rare alternatives to this pet.
Enchanted Lantern - Same abilities as Festival Lantern and Lunar Lantern, which are also uncommon-only. There are no rare alternatives to this pet.
Festival Lantern - Same abilities as Enchanted Lantern and Lunar Lantern, which are also uncommon-only. There are no rare alternatives to this pet.
Jade Owl - There are no rare alternatives to this pet.
Legs - There are no rare alternatives to this pet.
Lunar Lantern - Same abilities as Enchanted Lantern and Festival Lantern, which are also uncommon-only. There are no rare alternatives to this pet.
Magic Lamp - There are no rare alternatives to this pet.
Mana Wyrmling - Shimmering Wyrmling is always rare.
*Servant of Demidos - There are no rare alternatives to this pet.
Toxic Wasteling - Disgusting Oozeling is always rare. Jade Oozeling and Oily Slimeling are the wild alternatives.
Willy - There are no rare alternatives to this pet.
