One of the new (with Mists) soulbound grays with flavor text. Unknown yet if they'll be valuable with some rep, or if the flavor text is to justify their high vendor value.

Edited to add: At least revered now with every faction, I can say with some certainty that there's no rep value to be had here. Looks like just grays with a high vendor value. I'll check back in at exalted, though I don't have high hopes. If you're holding onto these, reclaim your bag space!

This item is a reference to a real practice found in some regions of Asia. Symbolic paper objects are burnt, buried with the dead, or otherwise destroyed or left at sacred places to make an offering to the deceased or to deities. The paper used to make the sacrificial objects is known as "joss paper", and the ever-popular money-shaped form is known by several names, such as "ghost money" or "Hell money".

The thought process is that by destroying the symbolic object, the dead or spirits could then use the offered item(s) in full in the spirit world. Spirits would be pleased to receive gifts, and the dead could use the objects to exist comfortably.

Warcraft's own Spirit Money is found on Pandaria's undead. True to the real objects, the description notes luxurious goods depicted on the paper.

This tradition has tons of history and variations -- this overview is just scratching the surface.

: Ahh, for you see, this is spirit money, it is worth a lot to the spirits of the spirit world.
: And how does that help me in any way?
: You buy stuff like acid slime, viscous goo, skulls of baby sentient creatures, and say you don't want this?
: Hey! I use that for my nefarious experiments to build an unstoppable army that will crush the Horde, the Alliance and the Burning Legion.
: Huh?

These seem to randomly disappear from my inventory. I was sure I had more than 2 stacks of 5 when I checked my bags again an hour of farming later I only had one stack of 5 left. The odd thing is (and yes, bad boy, bla bla bla) when I use a 3rd party program to scan my inventory it does detect the missing stacks but /reload or relogging will not make them reappear. Mysterious... perhaps they're just like leprechaun gold?
