Ive recieved 2 in a week this recipe is all to make an item in the game made for pure fun. It sells alot becuase its a super rare drop but once you get it you can actually sell the delights seperately. The fish can be fished in Wailing Caverns, i usually fish for them at the pool right before the portal to enter.

Well here's fun thing, and anyone with two accounts can do this, but farm it on your hordie while you level it, sell it to your alliance alt, slap it up for an ungodly price.

It's kind of stupid though. Once on my hordie I bought out like 5 of them for 50s on Horde AH. I tranfered them to my husband's character and then sold the recipe to the Alliance for 15-20g each. Quite the tidy profit. It's all too easy to profit off of lazy people who don't want to go farm it themselves.

Do your self a favor, go farm it up yourself and don't get ripped off lol.

I don't beleive anyone has mentioned yet that when eaten, this will turn you into a pirate or ninja. So for gnomes you will be able to grow up.

This item is a rare drop that drops anywhere near an oasis. If you have cooking skill of 85 you will surely love this. If alliance finding this is RARE! This sells for about 2 gold peices per stack. Horde usually goes around 1g per stack. Grinding in the barrens is a great way to get these, even you didnt even want the. You can sell them in AH for a roughly 5-7g on my server and they will buy instantly.

One of the best ways to get this item as Alliance is to watch the neutral Auction Houses. Horde who have farmed the recipe (or, more likely, just got it randomly) sometimes sell it in the neutral houses.

For the horde, this recipe sells for a pretty high price.

This recipe turns gray at 165.

I think it took me about 300 fish to go from cooking 85 to 165.

160 - took 8 fish
161 - took 12 fish
162 - took 16 fish
163 - took 20 fish
164 - took 28 fish
165 - took 48 fish

While not the shortest route to leveling cooking, this is in constant demand, and is typically a profitable transaction if the Deviate Fish is purchased at a reasonable price.

On a whim some guildies and I decided to try and get a recipe since one of us had maxed cooking. We flew to Ratchet then went south and nuked pirates. The recipe dropped 10 minutes later, total of maybe 100-120 pirates killed, guess we got lucky!

Farming this item is pretty much the only option for Alliance on my server. The common price now is between 75 and 100g on the AH.

I, however, am very surprised at the comments here, finding three in one day, 10 minutes of farming and a drop. I have not been so lucky, counting tonight I have been farming for 5 days and no luck. Not 5 days straight, no sleep... then I would be mad.

Farmed mine off of the harpies in the north; they have a very fast respawn rate so no down time. Took me an afternoon, and probably 300+ kills, but it did finally drop. Great way to farm linen for an alt, incidentally.

Another option would be to farm the Southsea pirates just south of Ratchet. They respawn even faster than the harpies, and you have the potential to earn goblin rep per kill as well.

I killed 1000-1500 mobs in the barrens. Mainly Harpies and Pirates. This recipe didn't drop at all. Whoever got this drop within 15 minutes is very lucky indeed....

Please. Mind my asking. I fished the yellow deviate and ate the things raw. Different things happened per fish.

So what exactly is the purpose (or usefulness) of cooking this fish???

I think that kind of information is what this recipe entry needs.

There used to be several random effects from savory deviate delights (the cooked version of the fish).

Yaaarrrr (turns you into a pirate)
Flip Out (turns you into a ninja)
Oops (turns you into a pile of goo for 10 sec)
Rapid Cast (50% increase in cast speed for 2 mins)
Cowardice (causes random "Run Away" fear effect for 10 mins)
+50 Rage for warriors, +50 energy for rogues
Fake Death (identical to hunter feign)

Uncooked deviates produce the following effects when eaten:

Party Time! (Makes your char perform random emotes every few seconds like dance, chicken, wave, clap, etc. 2 minutes.)
Sleepy (Makes your char sleep. 30 seconds.)
Shrink (Shrinks your char and reduces Stam and Strength for 8 seconds. 2 minutes.)
Healthy Spirit (Increases spirit by 5. 30 minutes.)
Invigorate (Heals you for 400-600)

About 2 years ago (in patch 1.6)... Blizzard cut out most of the possible effects (of the cooked fish, uncooked remain the same), mainly because the casting speed effect was extremely OP for raid situations, and they left it so that the only possible outcome of eating one is turning into a pirate or a ninja. (disguise effect buff) That's it. 50/50 chance.

I spent about 30 hours farming for this as a 40 gnome rogue about the 2nd month after launch. Was the only alliance with it on my server for at least a month, closer to two iirc. I made a gold mine. I could charge people almost as much just to cook fish for them as I could to catch fish myself and sell them. The most fun was definitely the feign effect, cause I would get that to land in the middle of the AH, and yell something about a horde rogue, and every toon in the IF AH with an AoE would run around for 10 minutes spamming AoEs thinking something had actually killed me, cause since when can a rogue FD? Good times.

Farming this Recipe is very hard. It drops from any mob in The Barrens. i followed the instructions from the comments here and grinded money instead. The Recipe was out in AH for 200G for a long time. Checked everyday and the price got smaller everyday. Bought it for 100G a while ago. The recipe is a pure Goldmine, thats why i bought it. On Haoumarush you can sell 1x 2,5G and x20 25G. You can get this on your first kill or you can get it after a week.

Now, what I did, was promise my high level friend, that when the recipe was going for a very low price(-50g), that if he bought it for me, that I would pay him back in Savory Deviate Delights going at 1g a piece!:) And he agreed to this. So I just waited and waited, and kept checking the auction house(Alliance, by the way), and when I saw a recipe that went for 49g 81s and 36c, I told him, and he rushed over and bought it out, and then gave it to me, I got my cooking skill level up to 85, and paid him back in Savory Deviate Delights!:) So that's my tip for Alliance players who want the recipe. Patience.:)

P.S.: I am selling them at 1g a piece, and they have already paid for the recipe by far!:D

What really baffles me is that people are paying piles of gold for a recipe that doesn't do anything but give you a halloween suit. What's the point? If they hadn't removed the funnier effects of it maybe I'd understand...but as it is it's just stupid. Ninja or Pirate. Period. And why remove ALL the funny effects if it was the casttime buff that was OP?

Yes it does go for ATLEAST 70g on the alliance AH. Farming it in the barrens is time consuming but the rewards are great. I make easily 6g to 8g a stack cooked, 4g to 6g uncooked, no less than 50s per cooked fish (on packed normal server), and fishing it isn't bad, the skill rewards help :P

I used to farm these out consistently from the same mob over and over again. I would get about 1 for every 30-45 kills. I used one of my rogue and sold two. I haven't tried it in awhile but if you are having problems finding it I will give you two hints: 1) Think level 20 mobs. 2) Think of large lizards. If you figure this out, I really do hope it helps.

This dropped twice for me while I was running the wailing caverns. I sold each for about 40 - 45 gold. As long as you keep questing in the barrens, you're bound to get at least one, if not two. I guess I just got really lucky there. :)

I got mine from wiping out the castle with general twinbraid. Its practically a lisense to print money.

The cooked fish sell for like 30g per stack of 20, you can catch 20 in like 20-30 minutes.

i suggest just walking around the barrens killing everything and its gets easier if your a hunter so you can just send your pet in land 1 shot and check the loot and i spent all day still no luck ..... sells for over 400g in argent dawn im keeping the first one i find for a money over time aspect and selling others

If you have all (or mostly) 16+ slot bags then go to ratchet, put EVERYTHING in your bank so your bags are empty and just kill the harpies to the north, and auto loot them all.

Despite the low droprate, this can actually be quite realistic to farm for if you have a good farming character, which may be worth it if prices on your server tend to be more than what you'd get from a good hour of doing dailies.

As a 70 hunter using just auto shot and aspect of the cheetah, I was able to kill one mob every 2-4 seconds with no downtime in the area with the harpies all the way in the north western corner of the Barrens. Based on drop rates listed, I would say the average number of mobs to kill until it drops is in the order of 1000, and with a conservative 5 seconds needed per kill this would take less than an hour and a half to reach, which isn't all that bad seeing that on servers like mine it now ends up in AH for prices in the 400-600g range a lot of the time.

If you do this, make sure you get partied with someone and set to Group Loot (no need for them to be there with you) so you get the need/greed popup for any greens that drop, or you might miss the drop and leave it on a corpse b/c your bags are full of various types of feathers. If you farm it with someone else there as well, just leave it on group loot and follow the rule "you kill it, you loot it" - mobs that you kill but that you can't loot won't have the recipe anyway, as mobs with green or better items will always sparkle to all party members regardless of who got assigned the round robin white/grey loot rights.

Here's my story. On my realm it usually sells on AH for 350G+ and I wasn't ready to pay that much (ouch!) for it. I was looking for more cheap offers for about one weeks time, but there was only 1 recipe on AH for 400G which finally sold out. Since that time about 3 weeks have passed and no new recipe was posted on AH. I was blaming myself that I should have been purchased it for 400G...

Yesterday I decided to try my farming luck. After 45 mins of killings I realized that I'd better go and do something more interesting. Being a miner I decided to mine ore and sell it. Finally that evening (about 4h of easy mining session) I was able to farm a lot of different ores which I immediately put on AH and went to sleep. Today in morning almost everything I farmed the previous day was sold and 220G laid down my pocket. I checked AH once again for recipe and it was finally there! Someone put it for 150G (starting) and 210G (BO). So now i'm a lucky Savory Deviate Delight cook :)

Goes for an average of 250g on my server. I farm it everytime I fish for the deviates, which I use for Elixir of Giant Growth. No luck so far. I'm not ready to cough up that much gold for it yet, but one day I'm sure i'll have to give in and buy it. Paid 100g for a noble's monocle, why not buy this.

Oh this droprate all people speak about.
You cant say if you kill so and so many, you will get it.
If a droprate is 0.01%, it will always be 0.01% for each kill.
So your chance is not better, if you killed many mobs.
The only thing i can say is, that you have to be patient,
if you want to grind this recipe.
By the way, to play wow, you always need to be patient.

Here's a very strange little fact.

This pattern dropped for me twice in the span of three minutes....but it wasn't from the Barrens at all.

I got it while levelling a brand spanking new druid in Mulgore. Dropped off of a wolf mob both times.

Has anyone else ever found this pattern dropping outside of the Barrens?

Gotta agree with Zyrashana here.

Despite the low drop rate, farming for this is totally doable, and thanks to johnsogg's math, we can get a better idea of how many mobs we need to kill, etc. to up our chances. It honestly doesn't take that long, and think of how satisfying it will be if you farm it yourself and save that 150 - 400g (depending on your server) to put towards alts or epic mounts, etc.

I went up into the northwest corner of The Barrens where all of the various Witchwing Harpies are. They are around level 14 or so, and if you have a higher level character it will take you no time to blow through the 238395834864097 million harpies there are in a small confined area. In fact, there are so many and their respawn rate is so high that it is impossible to actually kill ALL of them... you will never be hard pressed to find more. With my 70 Druid I went into cat mode and turned humanoid tracking on so that I could see where they all were in the area around me so I'd not miss any. Having humanoid tracking on also helped me notice another fellow Horde member who was level 16 killing the harpies, too, and that way I could avoid where he was killing so I'd not take away from him getting his quest done.

I didn't group with anyone; instead I turned off auto loot so that I wasn't forced to loot a bunch of junk I didn't want taking up space in my bags. I only looted green items and cloth. (The recipe is a green item so you're sure not to miss it.) LOTS of wool and linen to be had from these harpies. On my server a stack of 20 linen tends to go for anywhere between 50s and 1g, and stacks of wool cloth can go for as much as 5g each. The green items are great if you have a lowbie enchanter alt (or have a friend that does) or you can sell those for a tidy little profit on the AH, too.

If you're a miner or herbalist, you'll find plentiful resources in the area while you farm. And even though these will be low level nodes or herbs to a higher level who is farming, you'd be surprised at how much the lower level stuff sells for on the AH these days. There's a few more gold to add to your pockets.

It took me around 40 minutes to get the recipe drop, and in the process I netted 10 stacks of wool, 8 stacks of linen, around 20 green items to sell and even the schematic for EZ-Thro Dynamite, which immediately sold for 12g on the AH when I got back to town. For me it was so much more worth it to farm for the recipe myself. Not only did I save 300g (the buyout on one at the AH right now on my server) but I also brought in a fairly sizeable chunk of change to put towards epic flying, and I was only out 40 mins of my time in exchange for that satisfaction. Good farming, even at level 70 if you ask me.

Thanks to pinktoque for his analysis and suggestions!
Looking at the MOB drop rates on the first tab of this entry convinced me to farm the MOBS near the oases, with particular attention to the giraffes. I set up a running loop with my level 51 NE Druid, killing mostly lions, hyenas, giraffes, zebras, and screechers. No luck, and MANY MANY hours, thousands of MOBS killed. Lotsa greens, but no recipe. No, I mean THOUSANDS of MOBS killed.
The MOB drop rates show very low rates for many of the Witchwings- the Windcaller, Harpy, and Slayer are all "0" and the other two only .1%. After reading pinktoque's post, I figured I had little to lose in trying up north. So into cat form I went, and after an hour and a half, it dropped at last!
I had a stock of Deviate Fish in the bank, and I have sold scores for 1G 75S on my server. Pruppana's post is right- WHAT A FEELING! See my screenshot.

Well this dropped for me twice while questing in the barrens.I sold both for around 150 each:P.Never farmed for it yet.The harpie mobs seem the best to farm for this.They drop a lot of greens as well.
On the alliance side on my server costs about 400 g.Horde side it's around 200 g. So if your a lowbie and are lucky enough to find this...sell it! It sells..much more than the crusader enchant...

oddly i've gotten this twice...and neither critter was high on the % list. after killing hundreds of plainstriders & harpies, i was about to give up but decided to try north of ratchet to try and get it off of the lions...until i saw that there are very few lions up there. so i went further north and killed thornbacks...got it about 15 kill. more recently i was traveling through the barrens a nd killed about 6 or so beasts as i went by, the last one ( a raptor) dropped the recipe and i sold it to a friend for 5g.

Is there a limit per server of this item? I killed 600 mobs one day, then 400 the next. Concentrated mostly on the harpies (Barrens, Dry Hills: 38,13), but also tried the pirates and other various wildlife and humanoids.

Finally today, I dedicated myself to getting the 1000 kills in one session, thinking it might make a difference. Over 1000 harpies killed in 3-1/2 hours and did not get the recipe. The latest try netted 36 greens, 4 Moss Agate, 3 Shadow Gems, 1 Tigerseye, 20 stacks of Linen, 12 stacks of Wool, lots of Lesser Healing Potions, and tons of Light Feathers, but no recipe. I've decided it's not important enough to try again.

I went on a Barrens killing spree from the Harpies in the North West, killing and looting all the way to the Wailing Caverns. By the time I reached the caverns I looted 2 of these.

I used one and then put the other up for 25000g with a 50000g buy out. If it actually sells I'll have to get another because my guildy wanted it.

The harpies are the easiest way to farm the recipe, just go around and kill everyone you see and go back again where you started until it drop, took me around 5 mins.

Let me just say that as a level 80 it's soo painstakingly boring to farm for this it's more worth the time to farm gold and buy from the AH for anywhere under 300g. I bought mine for 150g. Although I have found it on the Zhevra guys quite often on alts.

In the current build of 3.1 on the PTR, this recipe now only requires 1 Deviate Fish.

EDIT: To clarify, they dropped the Mild Spices from the recipe.

My newphew rolled horde and I am on the alliance side. I bought the starter staff from him in the neutral AH for 400g to get some gold to him. He mailed to a level 1 alt and hit the horde AH. Sells for 275-300 gold average on horde AH, but is never on the alliance AH.

Well, with the help of the neutral AH, we have successfully sold over 7 recipees on the Alliance AH for 750g each. Considering we actually got a recipee for 6g buy out on the horde AH, that's over 3,000 gold profit after AH fees.

Have only seen it listed twice other then my 750g listings, both were 1200g buy outs.

This was a pain to farm. Some people find it on their first kill, others on their 4000th. I was one of the unluckier ones :(

Farming the recipie can take a long time the best method is just by doing quests while your in the barrens the drop rate is pretty much the same. just do quets and kill things like i did and it will drop. thats how i got it to drop i made 600g.

anyone know if this is not droppable for level 70 and up or something? i've heard people talk about having trouble getting it on level 70 and up toons and at lvl 72 i'm 8000 kills into the farming and still pulling up nothing.

If you're planning on farming this, go for it! There's nothing to lose in trying, except some time. I went to the barrens after reading many of your comments and got it after five kills. I was in the north-west corner killing Witchwing Roguefeathers. Perhaps I was lucky, but you never know what will drop. My curiosity made me 500g in a few minutes.

Got extremely lucky and it dropped within 2 minutes of starting to farm.

I farmed it on the Witchwing Harpies ( http://www.wowhead.com/?npc=3276 ), they have an extreme reset rate and drop a ton of linen for alts / tailoring / AH. Better than getting nothing out of farming for it!

Good Luck farming this recipe. IMO its worth it, on my server the recipe goes for about 500g, if your lucky enough to see one thats posted on the AH. If you fish your own deviate fish, you can make a ton of cash on this ( Server Value for Savory Deviate Delight is 40g a stack for me )

Just got this one from a Burning blade Bruiser. Was training my bow skill, so was hoping for the reciepe.

I killed the whole "mountain" with thoose burning blade ppl once. Guess it took me around 10 min or so.

If u wanna lvl up your weapon skill, u might aswell go somwehere like this, to farm for sth. If u don't find what u are looking for, u atleast get some weapon skill :)

Didn't even know where this dropped... surprisingly within about 5 minutes of entering the barrens in order for me to kill harpys for a quest this dropped from an Ornery Plainstrider , randomly enough this character I'm levelling right now is one that I'm going to max in all Cooking/First aid/Fishing & main professions.

I started farming this in the Barrens today and I found this recipe after 1203 kills. I downloaded a kill tracking mod before attempting this to track my progress.

Now I know that sounds like quite a bit of farming, but it only took me a little over 3 hours from start to finish, and I also received 239 linen cloth, 112 wool cloth, two expensive Recipes, and many greens. As lucky as I got, for some this could be a completely viable option to make some quick gold. For the server I'm on it's unlikely to see a recipe on the AH for under 800-900 gold, and cooking these is pretty much the equivalent of printing money. I advise killing the harpies found in the most North-western part of the Barrens. Even for a level 80 they respawn faster than they can all be killed.

I decided that I would spend today farming for the recipe. After doing a little "research" (consisting of reading these comments), I decided the best mobs to farm would probably be the harpies, so that's where I went. Farmed for about an hour and a half, but got nothing. Here's what I killed, in all:

656 Harpies
65 Dreadmist Peak Acolytes, Bruisers, etc.
45 Quillboars
26 Kolkar Centaurs
13 Oasis Snapjaws

Finally got it on the last turtle. 73 Holy Priest just Holy Nova'ing the crap out of things. xD

looted both deviate delight recipe and elixir of giant growth from the kolkar mobs around the ponds. knew they were lucky after i got the giant growth from them:)

edit: just an overview of what i farmed.

1: beginning of farm was at the harpies in the northwest and i had absolutely no luck with them after 200+ kills.
2: moved on to rare spawns all around the barrens. checked wowhead for all the ones i could kill as alliance and went around killing them every time i thought they respawned.
3: ran around and killed everything i saw especially giraffes.
4: decided to farm the turtles around the ponds and ended up killing a lot of kolkar mobs and it eventually dropped.

gl farming it and either learning it or selling. 800g avg for the recipe and 50g per stack of fish on my server. its a gold mine and worth the farm for alliance.

I've been farming for this for about 3 weeks now. Its crazy how you guys get it to drop in<1 hour! I spent the first 2 weeks, bout 40+ minutes a night, killing those pig dudes between Crossroads and Rachet. I'm on to those harpies now... 1K kills later and nothing so far!

After having read the comments above I decided to take a trip myself and attempt to farm the recipe.
I spent a total of 4 hours till I finally got the drop, this along with various greens and lots of cloth.
I recommend the use of a loot filter add-on to remove the vendor trash which is not worth the bag space which it takes up.

I'm guessing they increased the drop rate, because I went to the harpies in the northern barrens, and no lie, the recipe dropped on the 11th harpy I killed.

Those harpies are the best place to farm, lots of them close together, quick spawn rate.

Adorarose's Guide to Farming the Savory Deviate Delight Recipe

Step one: Set foot in ratchet, clean bags are a must, Drop everything (Including Hearthstone) Into the bank.

2 - From Ratchet, move in a circular motion, killing "Heckle Fang Hyena" , "Barrens Girraffe" , and miscellaneous Kodos. (Yes, including the lost ones.)

3 - Make your way, keep going in circles, medium size works best (Still killing the three beasts above), to the mountain North of Northwatch hold.

4 - Climb atop the mountain, still killing as you go, let no beast escape your fiery wrath, one of those buggers has that recipe!

5 - Observe your surroundings, move in a reasonably slow fashion towards the initial pirate camp. (I suggest hitting the walk button, and not running, it makes this a whole lot easier.) Still killing as you move.

6- Once at the pirate camp, kill every pirate on your way up to the 5th tent, and all the respawned pirates as you circle the hold, (Your going from the "H" in watch, to the "N" in north.) Swing around the camp, killing every pirate, let none escape, or you might be letting that recipe escape!

7- After reaching the spot where you started, mount up. and move diagonally towards wailing caverns. Hop off your mount to kill EVERY "Barrens Giraffe" / "Wandering Barrens Girraffe". (This is extremely tedious, not for the faint of heart, Since I am a druid I just cat form smacked everything, what ever floats your boat)

8 - Once at Wailing caverns, run around the Oasis in a circle, killing the horse men around you, make sure to get everyone, and keep going untill the camp is empty (Your fighting against yourself here, make it a little game. :] Makes it a little more easier to handle the boredome)

9 - From the Waling Caverns WALK north (In the step 3 formation, medium circles) to the next Oasis. Make your usual rounds, like in step 8 , careful to spot and destroy, any rare spawns. (SMITE THEM! THEY CARRY THE COVETTED RECIPE!)

10 - Go diagonal to the harpy spawning area, in the Northwest corner. (Be sure to be walking and killing the usual 3 spawns, Hyena, Kodo, and Giraffe!)

11- Spend an hour. (Yes an Hour) Killing harpies, keep AoE'ing, or moonfiring the living day lights out of the fast spawning bird witches. (Be sure to time yourself, if it doesn't drop, it doesn't drop, and an hour is good enough)

12- From the Harpy Spawn point, MOUNT-UP, and move east to the Sludge Pen. Killing the usual three if you spot them, (Giraffe, Kodo, Hyena.), mounting remounting, all the way.

13 - Once you spot Venture Co. Peons / Drudgers kill them.

14 - Once at the Sludge Pen spend another hour. (Yes another hour) Killing Venture Co. enemies, be sure to get the different 3 rare spawns.

Lather Rinse, And Repeat.

I am farming the recipe with a lvl-80 warlock at the above mentioned spot with the harpies.
I simply target mob and cast Curse of Agony. The harpies die within 5 seconds of the instant-cast curse duration.
Position your self withinin range of multiple targets and fire away.

Assuming the drop rate for this Recipe is the same all over "The Barrens" you must add all the numbers together and that would be today the 19.02.2010. I counted:

2.348 Drops out of 5.113.348 Kills
This is a drop rate (hope you are sitting) of 0,04591905 %.
Meaning, you will have to kill 2.178 Monsters to get this Item. On Average.
Calculating with 5 Monsters per Minute this would take you approximately 7 and a half hours grinding.

Maybe I'm just lucky, but I was on my way to do a quest in the barrens and came across the Prowlers. After killing about 10, the recipe dropped. Now granted, I had farmed this area previously for HOURS about a month ago with no drop. So maybe it's drop rate is based on a total as a whole, not how many you kill in one day. I don't know if they changed the drop rate when the last patch came out or i was extreamly luck i got it off the 10th mob I killed. I was setting out to do the grind after reading all the posts i set aside 2hrs to grind out the recipe and to my surprise it took me 15min including traval time from Crossroads. Just thinking since no one mentioned it...in the Northern part of The Barrens, just East of the Harpy area (so kind of close to Sludge Fen as well....kind of close) there is a vendor guy. So if you are picking up the grey items, you can sell it and make more bag space, and make a little money (it adds up) without deleting things! Probably better for the Harpy area; farm for a while then go sell stuff.

Or, if an Engineer (maxxed for Jeeves), you can summon your Jeeves, Scrapbot, or MOLL-E to clear out bags anywhere!

On my first Horde toon, I got the drop in the Barrens almost right away, but then I was total noob and had no idea of its worth... looted it and said "oh cool a new recipe".. wasnt til months later I saw in Trade chat about how much someone was selling it for. THen checked AH and was shocked... bigger shocker was when I went to my Alliance toon and saw the outrageous price for it there!.. Then I discovered Wowhead and saw all these comments.. WOW!.
some db in Horde server actually was trying to sell it in Barrens chat for 600g but then next day was WTB for 200g.. I had to laugh at him in chat.

Anyone have a good farming area? I had gotten my drop from the Dreadmist Peak area..

If you're alliance and you want to save some gold here's a tip.

Step 1: Create a horde character.
Step 2: Run that toon to a auction house.
Step 3: Search for Recipe: Savory Deviate Delight
Step 4: If you find one ask a horde friend or find someone next to you or in trade to buy it and put it in the neutral AH for you. Give them a decent tip 25-50g since they just saved you a ton of gold.

You will find the recipe much cheaper on the horde side then you will the alliance side because horde quest in the barrens more then the alliance do.

and the horde auction house will have a higher chance of having it then the alliance one.

I saved 700g on this recipe on my server from doing this.

Truthfully, the easiest way to get this is to -not- choose between buying and farming. Instead, farm it. And if you don't get it by the time all those kills have raised you enough money to buy it? Then buy it. Basically leaving yourself open for both options is a great way to get it as soon as possible. Farming may take longer than grinding money and grinding money may take longer than farming it. You don't know because of the chance drop rate. Statistically and evidence wise, it should take a long time, but there's always that chance you get it on your third drop. So, do both and see which happens first.

If your alliance do exactly what pythonmsh said, on my server (garona) the horde side recipe goes for 100g-300g, ally side its 1500g-2500g. You can make a very good profit by buying horde side reselling ally, or u can learn it and sell the product for stead income.

Got mine after around 500 kills mostly harpies though went to the pirates too. It is quite difficut to get and I would say killing the harpies is very good choice simply because they respawn very fast and are all around the place. Be patient and you will get it. Good luck to all :-).

I joined a For the Alliance raid, and while it was forming I slaughtered all the harpies in the Dry Hills. It took about 15 minutes and I killed around 50 or 60 harpies but it dropped. I suggest hunting there if you intend to farm for it.

Because when i was farming for goblin rep on my DK first time when doing pre BB rampage quests I got one drop mailed it to my main then the second time when i was hated it had it drop even though at first i was steamrolling thru the mobs not looting but started looting soon after and got this.Or i could be ridiculously lucky.

If you're crazy like me and are out there farming for this, a great spot seems to be around 58.5, 27. These Razormanes are on a definite quota spawn; that is, there will always be, at minimum, three of them in this small area, no matter how quickly you kill them. I'd previously been killing harpies because they tend to spawn in clumps, but I've been able to farm these even faster, since I never run out of mobs and never have to take more than about 5 steps to send off another ranged attack and kill another. Many times, they will instantly respawn right where you last killed one, which is always nice and convenient! I have confirmed that their loot tables do include the recipe, but haven't had the luck of getting the drop yet. Hopefully this'll be the place!

I was preparing to go farm this, was getting into the mindset of zombie like grinding, when i decided to check the AH, just to see how much it was going for, lo and behold there was ONE recipe in the AH, and it was 2g. that's right folks. I tried farming a wee bit a couple of days and no luck. Killing the 3 mobs listed in comments here, plainstriders, hyenas and giraffes was it? Then went to do the demon seed quest up on Dreadmist and lo and behold a Burning Blade person partway up the mountain dropped it, much to my shock and joy!

I got this one fairly quickly, which is a small comfort since I've been farming the firefly pet for 2 years with no joy.
I got it off a Lost Barrens Kodo under a tree somwhere between 59,41 and 56,40. I originally farmed the Southsea cannoneers/brigands/cutthroats/privateers and got bored after about 15-20 minutes. I went up the hill from their northernmost camp, killed a few giraffes and hyenas, then got it on my first Lost Barrens Kodo. It happened so quickly I almost feel guilty after seeing all the other posts about long, arduous grinds.

Naturally, I got greedy and thought I could farm another one and sell it since they're going for ~2k gold on Alleria/Alliance so kept on farming. An hour later, still nothing...you'd think I'd learn to be happy with what I've got. :) To make matters worse, I killed so many animals while farming that I started getting depressed and considered joining D.E.H.T.A.!

Drop rate has been increased by quite a bit. I've picked up three so far on my level 13 Tauren pally. Sold one for 750g, the next day there's already 10 more up with the lowest price being 350g. Get rid of them quickly before the price for this recipe stabilizes at 30g or so.

Blizz apparently upped the droprate on this bad boy. Kinda frustrating since I farmed up a few over the course of a month to sell for people getting Iron Chef Achievement. Was playing a troll druid in the barrens yesterday and 2 dropped for me, and people were talking in general about multiple drops also.

I guess with The Shattering a lot of horde have made new toons that are running through the barrens, or maybe the drop chance changed, but I just bought one from the AH for 300g (usually over 1100g on my server).

As mentioned by others, the drop rate on the recipe has been increased substantially. Although I am pretty sure it is still a zone drop (i.e. no mob has a higher chance than another), I want to recommend the pirates on Fray Island. Aside from respawning extremely quickly, they also give four different goblin reputations per kill. To get an idea of the drop rate increase, look at this screenshot:

Although it was for the recipe for the Giant Growth potion, I killed a group of three pirates and all three mobs had the recipe. Spent about 15 minutes on this island and got two of the Savory Deviate Delight recipes, and five of the Giant Growth.

Then last night, got 6 of them in about an hour....at the minute tho ppls dont realise it's common drop so getting 400 - 600g at AH still. <runs back to the barrens>

Also Elixir of Giant Growth drops a lot and is worth about 150g each too.

Ok, this is ridiculous. I had this damn thing drop twice yesterday in about 30 minutes while in the Northern Barrens.
I go to check the AH and there are about 25 listings for it?

In Cataclysm, alliance got various quests hubs in southern barrens, bringing many alliance characters in this zone that otherwise would not be visited besides for achievements or the very farming of the recipe. More players questing in the zone means it will be more common to see this recipe on alliance.

Now that Cataclysm has been released these are dropping in the Barrens faster than you can sell them. Three in one hour for my Druid. When I went to the Auction House to sell it I found 25 of them posted before I got there, all around the 8 gold price.

The market has really fallen right out if this one...

Before Cata I was selling these for 500 G or more regularly... now you'll be lucky to get 10 G. Just pass it on to your alts. Chances are, there's probably two in your guild's bank right now...

With the increased drop rate on this once rare recipe, the buyout price on the auction house has drop dramatically. On Dreadmual Horde I bought 5 of these for 10g a piece. Although the people who are farming the fish that is needed with this recipe is slim. You can easily farm these in the barrens and still have a nice small notch in the auction house. These fish are still looked at and bought by 80 - 85s and even a few levelers and twinks may buy these for laughs.

I also was surprised when I went out to the barrens for the first time in months haha, and after cata came out and I got 2 dropped in a row, our AH varies you see the prices range from 25g buyout to 85g buyout. Quite scary if you think about it, no one can figure out what to sell it for since it's dropping so frequently now.
Not that I'm complaining. I used to search for this recipe forever and never could find it and would have to spend 100g or more on this little thing but now... haha I can have it.
It's mostly for collection purposes I like having everything possible.

I found a nice spot to farm this recipe. Alliance Paladin here.

Took a fly to Forest Song in Ashenvale then went down to Northern Barrens. Took a left from the path to a place called Sludge Fen (57.0, 20.0). From there, I simply made circles around the small lake and killed Venture Co. Drudgers and the like. They respawn fast enough to continously do laps around the pond without stopping. After 20 or so minutes I got my recipe.

Odd thing is, I got 2 other recipes from the next 3 mobs I killed after I got my first one. They can still go pretty high on the Auction House too. I saw them at 250 gold so there's a potential for good money.

The recipe sells around 15 or less golds on my server . Horde Side. I m guessing that Alliance AH value of Savory Delight is going dow as well at the same ratio. Asap I ll make an Ally toon to go spot if I was right . If the drop rates stays so high , the recipe totally lost his value even if marked as a green(uncommon...) one .

A little before 6:00 pm Pacific, my daughter and I were running our lowbie trolls out to the barrens to quest.

In the space of 15 minutes this recipe dropped 3 times, twice from striders and once from a razormane.

And these were just quest killings, we weren't farming.

Is Blizzard trying to de-value this recipe or the fish themselves?

i do NOT reccomend spamming the item in trade chat for selling or trying to sell on AH because its worth crap now. sinds cata released the highest offer people now a days give is 10g. before it whas like 500g. big diffrence. my suggestion is just to use it you're self. cook the fish and sell it on the AH its good money on my server. 1 stack of 20 is 125g here. wich is really good..

Good if you need it to learn bad to sell. I too bought this a while back for 400 gold. Now since cataclysm over all my toons I have about 15 of them and the don't sell in AH. I see around 20+ in AH on my realm between 2G-20G I can't even sell mine for 1G worthless!

At level 85 I did all the quests in the Southern Barrens and only killed mobs that I needed to to do the quests and I got 4 of these to drop. So they definitely increased the drop-rate on these.

It does drop off of ANY mob in the zone as I got it off of neutral Kodos.

i wasn't sure if this was worth anything, but luckily i read up on here! i was going to learn it for my main but might pop it on the AH and see what i can get

I usually get this recipe from Fray Island, south of Ratchet just off the coast at 77, 90. Seems like I get one about every third or fourth time I visit the place, including the boat. You also get volatile rum as a drop and kills here up your rep with Booty Bay, Everlook and Gadgetzan. I got the recipe as I was writing this from one of the mobs in the building on the left as you enter the island from the direction of the mainland.

BTW one person acting alone will probably not be able to clear this island due to the high respawn rate.

The drop rate went up in Cata, the price went down so much, if you're like me and didn't know, wowhead puts it at 40g, jumped at 175g cuz i remembered it being 1k in wrath, tho it was on ally, so diff.

Also, funny wowhead says Wowhead is spelled wrong

Deviate Fish are easily farmable in the oases (plural of oasis :P) of the Northern Barrens, with the recipe for Savory Deviate Delight being common and people loving this item, this is a good way for lower level mains to make some gold.

With the increased drop rate on this recipe there's no reason not to go get it.
If you're leveling cooking, this turns gray at 165 making it possible to gain 80 skill points from it.
This recipe has both for fun and for profit value beyond leveling.

This was a great recipe to sell for some quick gold when starting out around 2009 when I farmed a few of these, and they were pretty hard to come by on most of my characters. Fishing and selling Deviate Fish stacks made me quite a bit of gold also when I was starting out. It really is just a matter of pure luck (and stats hehe), so grinding for the recipe was a real gamble especially if the odds were against you. Presently, since I've returned to play in 2014, I've seen this recipe drop quite a few times on each character I've played recently, and I can only attribute this to a huge drop rate increase and not a matter of luck. The market price for the recipe also shown on sites like wowhead confirms this as well.
I'm starting to wonder if there is anything left in WoW that can be considered 'difficult' or a 'challenge', and some might just like the way it is now which is fine also.

I don't know if it's just me but I think as of 6.2.2 the drop rate has gone back down again. I made over 100 kills and it hasn't dropped yet. I've done both Northern and Southern Barrens. Is there anyone recently that's had a different experience?

for alliance the best place to farm is bael modan excavation in southern barrens killing Excavation Raider because at the same place you can have another cooking pattern plump Dig Rat dropped by dig rat . Good luck!

Had to drop in and comment on this. I remember farming this recipe in the Wailing Caverns, before the area was mangled, and it was difficult to find. Made a good bit of gold off the 'rare' drop of this recipe. Hadn't been back to The Barrens in YEARS and needed a pile of Light Leather quick-like, so decided to make a trip to my old stomping grounds. Within 15 30 minutes, killing Plainstriders, Savannah cats, Raptors, and Barrens Giraffes, I had ~~FIVE~~ EIGHT of these Scrolls in my backpack. The droprate for this has gone Officially Stinkin' Stupid. On the plus side, I now have one for every Alliance character I have. ~~Any more and~~ The vendor is DEFINITELY going to be using them for wrapping fish, or starting his cookfire.
