So far I tested it just for one istance.. right after replaced with dual hurricane.
Seems to be pretty nice, proc is more or less like 15-20% (just kept an eye and procs very often), and damage seems to also scale with buffs or debuffs in line with the nature (spell) damage it deals (and maybe with attack power but i can't state it for sure since I replaced it quickly to test out the quad-procs of dual-hurricane).

Can also crit, as any spell.

I wonder how this would work with the Enhancement Shaman mastery Enhanced Elements. Seems like it could be a pretty potent combination.

Anyone tested this out?

Update: After some unscientific testing on my Enh Shammy (average iLevel 332) Avalanche accounted for 3.4% of my damage.

This can also proc on bleed effects. Therefore, it is possibly viable for an MM hunter with Piercing Shots, if they're still upgrading their gear and want a relatively inexpensive weapon enchant. (Of course, for raiding, they'll want the 130 agility enchant, assuming they have a 2-handed weapon.)

Made a test on my rogue versus a dummy with avalanche on my OF weapon (1.4speed) in a fight of10min it does 1% of the total damage..

Hmm... Quick question, how good would this be for a Fury warrior? Currently I have Akirus MainHand, and Foe Reaper OffHand, both with Hurricane on. Should I keep Hurricane or switch to Avalanche? Landslide is... Very much out of my price range.

As been mentioned earlier, this enchant is perhaps BiS for Enhancement Shaman at the moment. It scales with Mastery, and with extensive testing on Raid dummies this enchant stands for almost 3% of total damage. It can also crit (based on your Spell crit chance) and with my current Mastery level, average dmg is 751 per hit.

Taking into consideration that Raid bosses are likely to be debuffed with for example CoE and therefore take even more damage, this enchant (with its average cost of 400 gold/scroll) really shines for Enhancement Shaman in particular up to the point that it might be argued that it is actually better then Landslide, current mats cost in excess of 10K gold.

After a bit of testing on a training dummy with my arms warrior, I discovered that avalanche can proc off Deep Wounds and Rend, and you don't have to be in melee range or targeting it for it to proc.

tested it for my fire mage, but results r poor, was hoping much much more.

can proc on any dmg spell, tested few dots, and seems it can proc on any ticks, including ignite. spent short time on dummies, and not happy with results below

5 mil dmg, multiple targets, lots of aoe, dmg dealt by ench is about 0.4% overall
10 mil dmg, multiple raid targets, lots of aoe, dmg dealt is about 0.4% again (can miss too, i think it takes ur stats for crit, hit)

done few more on a single spell cast for around 1 mil each time. (scorch, fireball, pyroblast, +1aoe flamestrike).
all single target stayed as 0.3-0.5% dmg dealt, flamestrike spam result r 1.3% dmg dealt by avalanche.

all my test included simple math mentioned somewhere above, which can confirm about 5 proc per minute on average (lowest was 4.3, highest 5.6), chance to proc including all dots is like 2%-6%. bu i think it doesnt really matter, what matters is proc per minut seems to be constant in all cases(as i didnt count any sec, thats why it might diff from 5).

used a single ench.

so in overall with 5 procs per minute = 5/60 = 0.08333*dmg dealt inc in dps. (for 500 dmg dealt its 41 dps inc, which is without any matter at all, even if all would crit.)

hope for u shammies results r much much better.

I'm planning on getting this enchant at least until the next patch comes out and I can farm Maelstrom Crystals for Landslide. What I'm wondering is if this enchant has a set critical chance (such as 5% or whatever) or if it scales with your own critical chance. If anyone has any idea I'd like to know.

yeah this is great for prot. warriors especially for more aoe damage, procs off thunderclap, even procs off heroic leap.

I am curious, for a warrior with blood and thunder, can this proc off the ticks of rend in an AoE situation? if so i would imagine that when survival isn't an issue this would be the best threat enchant for prot warriors to have.

edit: after very minor testing, it seems that while yet, it can proc from the ticks of rend that are spread via blood and thunder, the proc rate is much lower than that of regular and special attacks.

The proc from this enchant uses your spell hit. EG: as an arms warrior with 8% hit, I was seeing this miss on bosses.

I have absolutely no intention to use it on my hunter. But I'm curious nonetheless. I see that it can proc off of serpent sting. Is that just the initial shot or every tick?

This enchant is worthless for a shadow priest if anyone was remotely interested. I figured that with a decent proc rate maybe it would be good with our dots.

The damage is not effected by spell power. Crit chance seems to be based on spell crit.

Proc chance on spells is extremely low. I get roughly 12-14 procs in 3 minutes. 3 minute fight will give you about an extra 8k damage. The damage averages around 550. For my 3 minute test fights, it gave me a whopping .5% damage increase. The only thing this enchant is good for (for a caster) is a cool-ish visual effect on your weapon.

This will proc off Whirlwind, Bladestorm, Swipe, and other physical AoE attacks; This runs alongside the proc's from all singe target spells/attacks. However it will NOT proc off of AoE spells like Hurricane. I can confirm this as of 4.1.
Sorry casters! Doesn't look like it will increase your trash dps. Warriors? Go crazy :)

I was thinking about getting this for my mutilate rogue as the enchant is far cheaper than landslide at the moment. Does anyone have any testimonials about how well procs are with poisons and fast dual weilders?

Can anyone testify if this can Proc of a Thrash-Blade Proc? and if a Thrash-Blade can Proc off an Avalanche Proc? Or any Thrash-Blade type of effect? If it does work that way, and it doesn't become RPPM or something post-5.3 I'm considering Dual-weilding the Heirloom Thrash-Blades (1 being upgraded, to get around Unique-Equiped (Yes, it works like that.)). I guess it depends on how the damage scales down, if nobody else can tell me I'll test it out, and report back here then.

It’s performance on Guardian Druid in the boar pit in the starting zone has been parring on nuts the last 30 mins or so of testing I’ve done. Each time I had around 6+% up time and it was either 3rd or 4th on my meter in terms of damage. It goes off on multiple mobs at a time too. Comparing it to Force it outperforms it by miles. On feral and moonkin it’s usage was awful. I will do a longer test now and than update this once done on the stats of it.
