Well, if the transmutation mats are not placeholders, then JCs will have to prospect a LOT of ores...Personally I like the removal of blue reagent for Fire Prism...but making a single meta gem cost every raw gem x3....I'd rather kill a few elementals for Cata version of Eternal element.

Even at two per transmute the mats are worth more than the product on my server now, two weeks after Cata launch. If you proc three you'd make a small profit on that one transmute, but I have always been rather disappointed in the proc rate on transmute master. I'd been told it was around 20%, my experience has been more like 10% or less. I sort of regret spending 4 tokens for the pattern, although there is a small profit right now buying the raw gems and cutting, like 250 uncut, 300 cut.

I expect the 18 green gems required will be worth about 15 or 20% of their current value in a month or two, but what are the chances the cut and uncut gems maintain their current, relatively high price? I think, not great.

With the new expansion mats that can be used to level professions from 450 to 525 are high, and for about a week usable products for 80+ toons were high. A lot of those products now though, are already dropping into the 100 gold range. So this cycle seems accellerated compared to Wrath. I think it's from too many market-savvy players.

I expected a repeat of the Wrath thing where mats to level professions at low levels would be inflated with the surge in server populations in the expansion. So far that has not happened. mats to level JC or Alch or BS are cheaper now than they were 3 months ago. Same problem I think. Too many players reading the same guides.

my biggest problem with this is that its pretty much required to level jc . Ive always understood and been cool with the relationship between jc and alchemy, but its always been a "help" thing not a "need" thing. One profession should not be dependent on another just to level itself. (yes im talking about another crafting profession not gathering ones as their purpose is obviously to gather materials used in other professions.)

I am certain that as soon as 4.0.6 is live and new Meta recipies are available, prices for Shadowspirit Diamonds will jump, so will be good to grab few stacks of these.

since the price of the cut green gems are at 75silber down from 9gold they prices at the AH dropped massive.
Nowadays it's a solid way to get gold as an alchemist, especially if you're also a jewelcrafter.

At least on my server, the problem with making these nowadays is the need of Carnelian, everyone uses Carnelian to make Inferno Rubies instead and cut them for 50g+ profit each.

However,

Carnelian costs 30g each on my realm. To make 2 Shadowspirit Diamonds, I need 3 Carnelians, which is 90g already. Then I need 15 other gems, including Nightstone ( which also costs quite alot). Let's say I get them at an average price of 5g each.

It costs me around 90g + 75g = 165g to make 2 Shadowspirit Diamonds, meaning I make profit by selling each for more than 82.5g.

With transmute mastery, I also get about 10% more diamonds. Due to this, I make profit by selling each for more than 75g (165/2.2).

I usually sell them at 110g each or so. Thats about 30g OR 30 percent profit for each diamond made and sold with these prices.

I buy mats by the stack from a jc buddy for 850g, use xmute mastery and get 15-18 per 6 xmutes and sell for 125g per. AH on my realm has them for 180g+ so even cutting them that low I pass on the savings and net 1275g profit usually. Highly recommend this for xmute masters.

I took up Mining/JC on my first char and enjoyed the profession so much that when I rolled an alt (Draenei, naturally) I took them up again - dropping them on my main in favour of Tailoring/Engineering (Shadow Priest - pre-raid tier-equivalent epics - you get the picture).

Recently coming back to the game after quitting when Wrath hit, I've just dropped Mining on that alt for Alchemy (transmute master), having decided that my time was better spent on the AH than farming nodes.

A common curiosity of mine is with some of the other JC sellers on the AH, who are either so high in market morals, or not smart enough to understand supply and demand, that they continually list their cut SDs at the same price, day in, day out, even when through the extremely high demand of a new patch they could easily double or even treble their list prices.

There is so much gold at the top end of the game right now, that the majority of the players who are going to be in the market for a meta gem are not going to bat an eyelid at spending what they could be selling for.

I might list some popular cut SDs when there are none on expecting to be undercut by a few gold here and there, but then someone comes in at half my list price. Point? We're all doing it to make some gold, so why not just get on with it and make hay while the sun shines?

The same does not necessarily apply to other commodities though, such as Obsidium Ore, which, at the time of writing, is currently selling for over 150g a stack (yet is sometimes as low as 50g) - making this particular JC drop out of the market this week, because with the 1/2 price sale undercutters in town, it's just not profitable.

Fear not though, for a second alt, a DK, is currently charging through Northrend armed with the Mining profession, ready to hit the Cata content and send all that lovely ore back to my JC/Alch to work over, and then sit back and watch 100% profit roll in :-)

These are incredibly expensive on my server (Maiev). Maybe it's because this is a low pop server, but they sell for 400g uncut and the cut gems are only 20g more or sometimes even less (than 400g). It seems that the only ones offering cut Shadowspirit are the Alchemy/JC players and they have a stranglehold on the market. I'll probably have to start a new toon just to get the transmute ability.

I've been mining the heck out of Pyrite in hopes of a drop, but so far nada.

i suggest to ask a Transmutation Master for this one if you are lucky you can save a lot of gold if you get procs

With Mists of Pandaria slated to be released Sept.25 2012, these just became a very important part of your gold making strategy. If you are a JC and Alch, or even just an Alch, pay very close attention to these diamonds, and the mats required to make them, in the next 6 weeks.

Here is why:

The JC profession will arguably be the most popular profession with the advent of mounts for every gem color and the penultimate Onyx Flying Mount.
This, combined with the absurd gold-making abilities a prof like JC has in the first few weeks of an xpac (and beyond) make this a sexy profession for people of all kinds.

With this knowledge we can look ahead to Mists to see where leveling JC'ers will hit bottlenecks in the leveling process; here's a tip: it will be the same bottlenecks you hit while leveling. I won't go over them all because this isn't the page for it; however, a leveling JC'er will require roughly x30 Diamante Spirito Tenebroso in order to level proficiently. Since it takes x3 of every Cata uncommon gem to transmute this diamond (the same uncommons being used for a lot of other things) the cost for these will skyrocket into absurd levels. As always, AH prices vary server to server and you may not be the only one doing this, but even so, demand will shatter supply.

I don't think I ever got this transmute which really pisses me off now if I read correctly. (Editor Note: If you did not learn this as a Transmute Master you can learn it from an alchemist trainer).

You can learn this from an alchemist trainer, but as has been said the xmute requires 3 of each gem so it is not much of a profit maker unless you just need to level up your JC 390 to 400. (Editing Note: The Nightstones and the Alicite seem to be the more rare and expensive ones. The cheapest way I found is to buy the Elementium Ore as it is less expensive that the Obsidium Ore or mine it yourself for the necessary gems).
