When you kill the Lich King with a player wearing Shadowmourne in the raid, you will get an additional item - Unsealed Chest. After bringing the chest to Darion he will open it up and let you bring the items back to their respective owners to get your rewards :

Reins of the Crimson Deathcharger - A brand new mount that looks like the Death Knight's class mount.
Muradin's Favor - A 10-minute Frost Dwarf transformation.
Jaina's Locket - A portal to Dalaran on a 1-hour cooldown, you finally have your own pocket mage!
Tabard of the Lightbringer - A tabard with a very shiny on-use effect.
Sylvanas' Music Box - A music box that plays Lament of the Highborne.

It's an epic mount, which only required level 20, so you could, theorically, send to a level 20 alt so he can have a 100% speed mount before level 40.

WHY you would want to do that is another history.

I think it kinda sucks that toons other than DKs can get a mount that looks just like (if not better) than the DK unique mount. I've got a warlock and a pally and I would be #$%^ed if blizz released a new mount that looked like the dreadsteed or charger. But the way things are trending I wouldn't be suprised if they did.

I've submitted a screenshot of a GM reply in-game of the following:

"The Sealed Chest item only drops as long as the person on the Shadowmourne quest line has 'The Lich King's Last Stand' in their quest log. Once they complete the quest, the Sealed Chest will no longer drop."

It's ONCE per Shadowmourne, NOT weekly. This will be a fairly rare item.

I beg to differ, those mounts aren't what I'd consider the same model as the Paladin and Warlock mounts.

The Fiery Warhorse for starters doesn't resemble either of the Warlock mounts in any way other then the flaming hooves and the Crusader's Charger is barely similar to the Paladins normal mount.

According to the GM response in one of the screenshots, I understand that the chest drops from Arthas as long as the person with the Shadowmourne quest DOESN'T complete it. By that it can imply that even if the person completes the objective for the quest, as long as they don't turn in, the chest will still drop from Arthas. Feel free to correct me but this seems to be a valid interpretation of the GM's response.

I'm sure this will be down rated...but I could care less.

If this item continues to be a "BoU" (bind on use) I don't really see the point. Now that flying mounts are the one thing we use 99% of the time and the fact that we have rings or tabards that port us to all major locations getting rid of down time and there is even random BGs and instances meaning we never need to fly or ride to an instance again. THIS will be even more so in Cataclysm with flying mounts in Old World. Why go 100% when most of us by now should have 310% flyers.

All of these items from this chest are purely vanity and meant for lore nerds. Personally, I hate that this game has turned into a 3-D version of Gaia online. And if you don't know what Gaia online is. Thank God. You are a good person!

Me? I'd get this. Sell it. And be just as happy having up to what ever this thing could fetch since which is obviously going to be in the 100ks range. I don't care if I can hear a bunch of dead chicks singing to me. I don't care that my tabard puts a golden aura around me for 30 seconds. I get that enough from pallies and priests. I don't care that I have a pocket port. Most 10/25s will always have a mage anyway. Turning into a frost dwarf...Does it have any benefit other then dancing in IF or Org getting tells from newbs "wheredja get that?" or "whow where can i find that?". Vanity is the DEVIL.

And truth be told. People enjoy masquerading about town on their pretty steeds. And that's it. THAT IS ALL we do now to show off our hard earned mount and pet farming! This thing is just as worthless as the 100 mount achieve. A blue dragon-hawk...That isn't even 310%. When you will probably need a few 310% mounts JUST to get that worthless flyer. It's an old model with different colors. Blizzard loves to do that. Why people get excited over this BS is beyond me...

I just bought this for 80k gold on Tichondrius US. I have not equipped it yet. I might resell this when blizzard makes it impossible to get.

It is a cool mount and on the same note: mounts and pets / really really rare items (legendaries)are the only things you carry from expansion to expansion.

I am a mount collector that is my hobby that's my passion. some people like pets. I like mounts. Just wish I had the legendary bug mount :(.

NONE of the items in the box are bind on pickup, so you can sell them ALL if you want to. My guess is that these items will fetch a very high price on the AH/Trade channel.

I just wanted to clear up any questions as to the purpose of what the unsealed chest is for. I have spoke with gm's on the topic and they have confirmed that the chest is meant for the person with shadowmourne as a way of saying great job. I asked them why would they make the items bopu if they could forsee the drama it could cause, and they responded that blizzard made the items bopu, for the sole reason to allow the wielder of shadowmourne to do with the items as he or she see's fit. They stated that is if they want to keep all the items for themselves that is perfectly acceptable, and if they wanted to give the items away that is also acceptable that it is entirely up to them. So that sums it up, it is soley meant for the wielder of shadowmourne to do with as they want. If you guild is trying to force you to give up the items they are in the wrong, regardless if they view it as a group effort or not.

The only time I really can see a guild having any imput into the loot from the chest, is if they provided all the saronite you needed to get started. Guilds are saying it was a group effort, and we had to change strats to get the quest done for them. Ok first off if the guild didn't provide the saronite, especially before the price dropped that is one large investment the person made on their own. Second, there is really no strat change to do the quest. This is what I mean: The abom is the same regardless, some think you haft to let one ooze not be slowed to get it, well they are just doing it wrong all oozes can be slowed, so no change in that one. Blood Queen: Someone always has to be bit, your just letting that peron be bit second and then they bite the next three after soaking one tick of blood mirror, so no strat change there. Sindragosa: Here is the only slight deviation from a normal strat in that the person has to soak 4 frost breath, but if done correctly they can get the breath and still dps, so no real change there, especially if it's the tank. So that stops that arguement on strat, and I pose this question, would the guilds still be raiding ICC 25 man every week just the same if there was no shadowmourne to gain, yes they would. I know of no guild that is only running ICC to get a person a shadowmourne, so with that your doing what you would anyway so as far a shards go, the guild really isn't doing anything special to help the person, just the loot master clicking to give them a shard drop.

This is stupid. This item needs to be changed to drop more than once or drop for everyone in the raid. As it stands, this is the only rare mount in the game that is nearly impossible to obtain on some classes but not others. Inb4buyit, NOONE on my server is selling it, nor am I likely to ever have enough cash to buy one of these, let alone the other items that come in the chest too.

Our raid guild decided that the fairest way to deal with the quest rewards was to raid roll five times - giving each winner a choice of loot (with the fifth person getting whatever item is left obviously). This is absolutely the fairest way to deal with the loot, the whole raid group worked on this as a team.

Ok I just got this mount today.

Info that i can share:
I wasn´t on the LK kill, I wasn´t on the raid when the DK with the legendary got it.
My guild EPGPed it, for 1000 points each item. I got the mount, even not being in the group atm.

It´s BOE, can be sold on AH, does not give achievment, looks like DK ground mount, but it´s red.

It´s 100% speed (at least mine is....) some ppl r reporting to have it 60%, its not!
As for the summoning... - someone asked it - it´s just like a normal mount.

Sorry if this has already been said or tried, but can the person who has The Lich King's Last Stand obtain the Sealed Chest, then drop the quest and do it again the following weed? Wash-rinse-repeat, potential for ridiculous amounts of money to the guild/player who has Shadowmourne.

I was extremely lucky to purchase mine for 65k yesterday. For mount collectors like myself, it's a fairly expensive one to get and on some server/factions it is going to be incredibily hard (like alliance on my server as it's completely dead). So if you get the chance to get one, get it now. Tempted to get a second to hold back if I manage to raise the gold.

Just managed to snag one of these. Bought a Blazing Hippogryph for 70k and traded it + 20k for the Crimson Deathcharger. IMO 90k is about as good of a deal as I could have ever managed to get on one of these and as a mount collector, I am extremely excited to have it. Nice to be able to spend my gold on something. Completely worth it.

only other i seen was about a month back, which i think sold for 150000 or so gold on the AH. person who sold that one was spamming trade for a week or 2 before listing on AH. all he got was hate, spam and fake offers.

to anyone selling this, dont bother using trade. just list on AH to save yourself trouble

And no, playing world of warcraft sadly isn't a total waste of time. Some people enjoy it and it helps to keep them distracted from all the bad stuff in their lives. Some things will be more or less effective in doing this than others.

It's a computer game, by its very definition it is a pursuit which offers no discernible reward other than to waste time/distract you from your actual life. It is infact, a waste of time, trying to justify it as a distraction from your real life issues shows you as a weak individual and it makes me feel kind of sad for you to be honest :(

I also understand how collectors would want this to add to their collection.

What I don't understand is why Blizz made this mount so un-extraordinary in its appearance.

Yes, it's red, and red=cool, but really? It's just a red DK mount basically. It doesn't even leave trails like the Headless Horseman's Mount.

I'm very disappointed in you Blizz, this could be so much more special. But then again, the majority of the armor/weapon/other designers took off for WotLK. Maybe they'll come back for Cataclysm.

My first thought when I learned about this mount was "Oh..yet another Blizzard fail, giving a great mount available only to a lucky few..".

However, it dawned on me that this mount can be BOUGHT, and especially DK:s aren't likely to wanna keep it..so I started gathering gold and advertise that I wanted to buy it.

I found a seller, scrambled together 100k in less than 1 month (farming herbs like crazy) and got it..I GOT IT! Finally a great looking, rare mount that can be bought with hard work other than from raiding or luck in rare drops....

I'd recommend anyone that feels they want it, to buy it. It's really worth the gold!

I have to agree it really sucks that the person who actually ends up with Shadowmourne also gets all these incredibly awesome items as well.

If they could solo the Shadowmourne questline then fair enough... But they cant can they? Without many members in there Guild joining in numerous raids they would never have gotten it in the first place.

So basically they end up with a Legendary, a Mount, a wicked tabard and a few other shinies that many other people in there Guild should be entitled to roll on. To be honest most of them sell the items off anyways for a very decent profit! How is that fair to your Guildies!

If I was a Guildmaster of any Guild where Shadowmourne was obtained it would be a firm desision that the chest be opened and every person in that Guild got to roll on all of the items.

For any one person to think they are more important than the rest of the raid is just stupid. They did not in anyway earn this item more than any other member in the Guild. They simply got lucky that they was "The chosen one" when it came to deciding who would get Shadowmourne.

I mean c'mon! Isnt a legendary enough? and let me also add not only do they get an awesome weapon they also get the chance to faceroll every BG and Arena match up to an imba rating!

Why the hell should they also get first dibs on ALL the special loot.

I completely disagree with you.

He is right in saying those items from the shadowmourne quest are junk.

Lore nerds will pay 100-200k gold to get these items and do nothing with them. That 100-200k gold you just got could be sold for real life cash.

As I see it, WoW has some benefits because you can get real money from it. So it's not like playing it is pointless and even more so, you can sell your account to some nerd who wants some good characters. It's a business.

No preference is necessary. It's a quest available to everyone performing ICC raids.

so, if (hipotetically) to treat every one equally, it could become a very tricky task to perform.

first, you'd have to roll on every quest to get a permission from RL to perform it.

What sort of guild are you in where you feel it necessary to ask your RL's permission to add something to your quest log?

and if you fail to do it, or if raid experience any trouble killing boss because of your performance - off you go to the end of the line. now, suppose, you've finished questline and ready to collect shards. well, man, surprise! you are not alone! let's roll shards to everyone who's eligible. let's say you gain one eligible person every week? that's 7 to 9 plate wearers to roll on every shard (tanks and healers NOT excluded, why would we?). throw on top a possibility to award DKP (or PR or whatever) for every shard gained.

This isn't any different than any other loot item in ICC. Saying "But other people are rolling against you for it" isn't a very convincing argument to defend the claim that an individual's quest award is community property.

and the main thing - that 24 other people, they do not suck. they are able to kill bosses so that shards would drop.

Again this is a statement that holds true regardless of what you're doing. If you suck and can't down something it won't drop the quest item you need. This isn't special to this quest anymore than it is to the raid weekly.

so, when somebody claims it's not a collective effort - this person is shameless or stupid.

Or factual. There is no sacrifice made on the guild's part unless they contributed the primordial saronites required to make Shadow's Edge. Everything else is done by the person on the quests.

Seriously, some players need to QQ no matter what. Blizzard store mounts are QQ, in-game expensive BoU mounts are QQ, players making 100k per day (not me but I know someone like that) are QQ because they spend a lot of time in-game, players not pulling 100% of their potential are QQ because they should care more about the game than IRL....

I adore this mount for what it is...I can mount this and always be remembered of those days spent in ICC and the joy of seeing someone getting their Shadowmourne. A lot of guildies gave away this mount for free, but I wouldn't allow it! I bought mine.

The ONLY thing bad about this mount is that since Cata arrived, it no longer uses the same run animation as it did before....sad indeed.

A suggestion to anyone considering getting this mount, now that WotLK is outdated:

Consider your server population. Look for sellers in advance. If your server pop is low, you may find that you have, like me, grinded 100k+ gold for this mount and have no seller. I don't mean find ONE seller in advance--that's what I did, and he backed out at the last minute--I mean make sure that there's generally a few people on the chain, on your realm, at any given time.

If your realm pop is low, and finding a seller will be hard, it's probably worth your while to do the chain yourself instead--even on an alt--to get yourself this mount.

Several days (and I can see this extending into weeks) of the following sorts of replies have completely made me regret farming gold for months, and wish I'd gone for Shadowmourne + loot instead:

If you choose to grind the gold & find a seller via /2 & forums posting, expect TONS of this and variations on each:

"Where is that mount from?"
"That is only a ground mount!" "That is only a 60% mount!" (and other random info, some true some false)
"Why would you spend that much on a mount? YOU ARE SICK."
"Just do the chain."
"Realm-change and get one somewhere else!"
"Lol I have one /trollface."
"Pay me 50k in advance. /trollface"
"WTF 100k LOL"

...If you DO go this route, make the following macro:

/r It's the last reward in the Shadowmourne quest line, which takes a couple months of ICC 25-farming to finish.

Believe me, you'll get your money's worth on that macro.

It's *either* Fury or Iydallus. I've spoken to a GM who genuinely couldn't find out; nobody seems to know for sure.

Fury is Salanar the Horseman's mount in early-phased Acherus, the DK area. When Darion first appears at the Argent Vanguard in Icecrown, in the guise of the Ebon Watcher, he's accompanied by a horse called Iydallus. Finally, in ICC, he's found standing apart from everyone else, alongside Fury.

Fury and Iydallus are both red Deathchargers, identical in appearance. One of two things happened:

1. The devs screwed up, forgot whose horse belongs to which character, and accidentally dumped Salanar's horse next to Darion in ICC. Thus when he gives you the reins of his own faithful steed, you're getting Iydallus, and Fury isn't really there.

2. Darion took Fury as his own mount (hell, Salanar won't be needing it anymore...), and simply called it Iydallus while he was himself disguised as the Ebon Watcher.

Should be noted that it usually sells for around 100k, so I would strongly recommend selling it. Even if you're a mount collector, you could sell it and buy many more mounts than just this one.

I could actually see this mount becoming more expensive in Cataclysm, specifically because it is a guild effort. Even at 85 with raid gear you'll probably need at least 10 people, more like 15 (the drops will stay restricted to 25man ICC afaik), to farm those fragments (reasonably fast), and that would probably take 5-10 weeks, depending on the drop rate. And then there's all the other various quests in the questline to do.

When I first read your comment months ago I thought you were correct. But we were both wrong. This thing has fallen steeply in value and will only continue to fall in price. We overlooked one key group: multiboxers.

I bought this for 50K on my server a few days ago and the conversation went like this.

Him: WTS Reigns of The Crimson Deathcharger for 75K.
Me: I'll give you 50K for it.
Him: You want one or two?
Me: LOL. How the hell do you have two?
Him: Oh, I multibox. This mount is easy now.

Me (to myself) /facepalm.

He's right. If you have a decent multibox set-up going on putting this mount on farm will not even break a sweat. It's an easy 50K.

edit: and by easy I don't mean there is no effort involved. But getting 50K this way vs. 50K grinding elementium ore.

If you can't decide on whether to use it on a alt or main, use it on an alt. I just used it on my main and its not that cool. I also have like 150 awesome mounts. Only paid 50k

I don't know why and how they got it, but 'chinese sellers' start to flood the AH in my realm with these. I've seen for sure 6 mounts in 4 days, selling them for 80-100k gold.

A good opportunity for collectionners, but very questionning...

In the last month the price for this one dropped below 50k on my servers. Lots of people selling it.

I wouldn't pay 10k for this mount, and I already bought two spectral tigers for 1.1 million. This mount is just way too normal, you always have to check if a DK is sitting on it, or some other class. Most people don't even notice this mount, they just think you're a DK... worthless, nothing special, for me at least.

If I had to guess, I'd say it's crimson because Alexandros Mograine (The Ashbringer) Was one of the founding members of the Scarlet Crusade. One might even go as far as to say this horse, at one point, as Alexandro's. Though I'm probably wrong.

I think they're being duped in the EU again, I just got two for 35k each on Bronze Dragonflight-EU. I had bought one the day before for 60k as well. If Blizz don't take them back off me then I hope to make good profit with them.

MoP is coming, and mounts are going Account Wide. I made a little list of mounts, so you can show off how epic you are, starting at levels as low as 20. This list is meant for mounts you can achieve in-game without buying them from the Blizzard Store, as all of those can be used at 20. I have not included the TCG mounts, as those don't really show "Feats of Strength" either.

these are being duplicated (duped) and alot are appearing on various servers for abnormally low prices. it was becoming rare to see even 1-2 on the AH at 100k+.on my main server which is med-hi pop

now i'm noticing 8-16 of them on AHs on many servers and factions, they are so abundant i'm seeing them at 10-25k, one player yesterday was selling them 2 for 40K

beware if you buy one extremely cheap and the seller is reported and confirmed duping, even if you learn it, blizz will remove it from you and will not give you your gold back

So a level 1 guy was selling this in trade in chat for 50k. I checked the AH and the mounts were selling at 65k so I thought what the heck and offered the guy 40k for it and he agreed. Conversion was like this:

Me: I'll give you 40k for it
Bot: Can you wait 20 min?
Me: OK
after a few min
Bot: Hey
Me: Hi
Bot invites you to a group
Me: Are you willing to send it to me in mail via COD?
Bot: no
Me: Ok
trades 40k for mount

then Bot spams trade again "wts reins of the crimson deathcharger 40k"

I opened up a ticket, might be a fake item which would be deleted eventually by blizz, hoping to atleast get a refund from blizz in case they do that.

For now I'm enjoying the mount while it last.

Recently bought this from an alleged banker. After spending about 40k for it,which I considered a good deal,I went here to check out the 'ub3r l33tness'...now that I know about the duplication bug/exploit,I don't expect to keep it for such a long time. Yay for hard-to-grind gold down the gold-farmer toilet.

Buyer beware,you'll possibly lose your gold. Probably for me,anyway.

I have heard a rumor and would like to share with everyone that this item aparently has been duplicated by hackers and gold farmers and sold for cheap and then blizzard once they track down the duped items and delete them, so if you are saving for this item don't waste your gold and buy it now wait it out then buy it later when it is safe and worth your time and gold.

There are currently 10 up in AH on my server, and they are being sold by just 2 people.

They are being sold for 20k, with some of them going for as low as 14k. My guildie who bought it for 35k a few weeks ago is now super pissed.

Yes, the act of "duping" as it's known has become a trend amongst exploiters and hackers recently, and yes, the chances are you bought a duped deathcharger, because no-one in thier right mind would sell a real one that they had worked thier butts off to obtain in ICC, for 39k :).

Currently, we are not taking action against players who have purchased such mounts because they are technically innocent of the situation ( unless of course, there is clear evidence to show they were part of the duping ring or something like that ). Please be forwarned though, I cannot guarantee this will always be the case. If the developers decide duping is becoming too much of a problem for the economy, they may instigate measures to remove all duped mounts they can find, which may include ones bought by normal players. I can't really speculate though, as anything could happen.

To put your own mind at ease though, I severely doubt we will do anything to you other than the slight chance that maaaaaybe one day the mount may be reclaimed ( but to be honest, that probably won't happen either ).

this item didn't add anything to my mount count for Mountain-o-Mounts achievement. I had 99/100 and after training/learning this mount I still had 99/100. Not sure if it's intended to be this way or not... needless to say I was very bummed.

I notice that people were talking about the possible dangers of duping on this mount. Is this still a problem, or has Blizzard cleaned up the dupers and duped items?

Special thanks to Marutai (Draenor US). Marutai had this bad boy on the AH for 36k (not bad, but I was poor). I sent a letter detailing that I'd pay 20k for it...and Marutai sends it to me COD for 10k. Why? Just because.
Just wanted to tell y'all there are some actual nice human WoW players, who go out of their way to make someone's week awesome, even though they don't know that person...and they deserve credit when they make Azeroth a great world to play in. Thanks a bunch! I am a dad of three, and an old vanilla player, and guildless, and the chances of me getting a shot at that mount were impossible at this point in my life--so thanks for giving me the chance to ride a DK mount on my Pally!

My DK is on her 6th week of grinding and I expect a few more weeks to be complete with the quest chain. I plan on giving it to a friend for a Birthday Pressie. All of your comments have helped and considering it takes close to 2 months to finish the quest line, there are easier ways to make gold so personally I would never even consider selling it. for anyone curious, it's an account-wide usable mount. It isn't like the DK Deathcharger only they can use. It's just a regular ground mount. i had that conversation with someone today, and felt it might be worth posting up here. any toon over 20 can use it once it's in your collection
