Proc is low about 1.5% not that great for PVE or PVP but great for remembering those great old times in ony and also remembering when this use to be great for my rogue.

this is the procced spell. it is categorized as physical damage and it is reduced by armor.

edit: yet another useful post rated down. keep rating down and rate up 10 other comments that have nothing to do with the item/proc.

I picked this up as soon as the new raid came out with high hopes of a great proc rate. Given the fact that it has no other stats and comparable items drops with the same dps, I assumed the proc rate would make up for the dps loss of it not having stats. Don't be fooled, the proc rate is disappointingly low. In 5 ToC, I only experienced one proc per boss encounter.

Ahhhh the proc rate there is kind of disappointing then. It would be nice if these saw a little love to the point where they were a relatively decent comparrison to current loot but I guess balancing the proc etc around everyone that could weild it is a headache blizz aren't keen to deal with (hence the disappearance of proc based weapons in Wrath).

It's likely then the axe is also rather lackluster. Was looking at the Axe more as it's similar everything but the proc is shadow damage. If the proc as low on that though then I guess it's a bit pointless.

If anyone has the time could we get a proper test of the proc rate? 1.5% has been mentioned, if thats done as the naked test against a target dummy then a quick reply would be good. Is the effect a PPM or % of swings?

The stats on say the Stormpike Cleaver (for a comparible weapon) give around 250DPS (values hastilly added to spreadsheet so it's only very rough) compared to this so I guess unless the proc is pretty high (which it apparently isn't) this isn't going to be particularly strong.

I'm surprised no one has said this on either version. But unlike the original Vis'kag, this is NOT black with a red edge.

In fact, this item's texture is the Dal'rend Sacred Charger, both are. Model is correct though.

Is there a cooldown on the Proc?
If it's like Empowered Deathbringer and there isn't, this would be nice with FoK.

I was lucky enough to get this in my guild's second Ony25 run on my DW DK. The weapon damage/dps alone makes it a nice upgrade for me (from the trial mace), but I wanted to test it a little anyway. Based on my recount, and assuming it can proc off melee specials but not stuff like BCB or necrosis, I saw a 1.44% overall proc chance (471 white hits, 191 oblits, 146 FS, 58 BS, 36 PS and 13 fatal wounds). The proc averaged about 1700 damage against Sarth (17% ArP), and can crit. As DW frost, it was 1.2% of my overall damage done for the run, and 1.7% on Sarth.

EDIT -- Looks like my math is at least a little bit flawed, as I forgot to consider that half of those white hits are with my offhand (which has the same 2.6 weapon speed). Considering this, my observed proc change would be about 1.95%, but of course this is over a somewhat short period of time.

I did some tests with it for a couple hours on a training dummy, and this is what I came up with:

-The proc chance is ~5%
-The proc uses your own crit rate
-Only auto attacks trigger the proc (at least for rogue attacks, unsure about other classes)
-It does 1365 and 3375 crit damage on a heroic target dummy with 1561 agi, 3698 AP and 176 armor penetration with this talent spec http://www.wowhead.com/?talent#f0eb0xZMgVoxcxoru0xRtx:Nhfz0c No poisons were used
-With expose armor under the same conditions it did 1487 - 3677 damage
-The proc has no internal cooldown
-The proc is affected by some talents, mainly prey on the weak as well as the meta gem.

Simple calculations for the proc:

-Proc is 2222 damage
- 2222 x 2.472 = 5493 so an unmitigated crit should be 5493 damage
- 50% crit = 3857 avg proc damage
- 1.5 sec swing time and a 300 sec fight = 200 attacks = 10 procs
- 10 x 3857 = 38570 damage / 300 sec = 129 dps max for the proc
- Bosses have ~30% damage reduction with sunder amor + faerie fire (correct?), so that's 90 dps on a boss.
- My spreadsheet says 40 AP/EP = 30 DPS, so 90dps / 30dps x 40 AP = 120 AP

It's pretty rough, but you should be able to add 120 AP onto the weapon in the spreadsheet and get an approximate value for the weapon. Mine says it's slightly better than Calamity's Grasp by 14 dps. Since the weapon does not proc off of special attacks, I'd say it's slightly better than calamity's grasp due to hack and slash being better than CQC, but definitely worse than any ilvl 232 mainhand in ToC or Ulduar. Spreadsheet it, the results will likely depend on your offhands available to you.

Equiped last night on my DK with Fallen Crusader rune. Spent 30 mins in Strath 60 to see how often this procced.

Recount said:

- procced twice
- dealing 4436 damage in total
- which equated to 0.5% of the damage I did

Extremely poor performance.

I am a rogue and got this recently from Onyxia25 replacing my Tankard O' Terror, and I have to say this is a major letdown, the proc rate is so low that on one 25man raid boss it procced once or twice and contributed like 0.3% dps or so.

It also has no stats which makes it a even worse, I also got The Lion's Maw 10man version ( 178.8 dps ) which has stats, and I am certain that Lion's Maw > This.

The overall stats on other weapons contribute to your overall damage, unlike this which in my case would be better Hack n Slash damage, Better SS dmg & Better MH white dmg, but the attack power, agility, crit rating, haste, etc. on Lion's Maw also increase my poison damage ( AP/CRIT ), My finishers, my combo point generating abilities ( AP/CRIT ) and my white damage ( AP/CRIT/AGI ) which all in all provides higher dps.

This is my personal opinion and has no real theorycrafting in it other than simply looking at my recount in raids and on dummys.

I don't know about other classes but I would discourage rogues from getting this, unless you're an enchanter, then you can use this as an excuse for abyss shard, to get some ph4t enchants.

This item (as well as the rest of the drops from Ony) are more for nostalgic factor-of course they're decent upgrades if you're still donning heroic level gear. As an old flame I was real giddy to see these weapons simply have their damage/dps/procs upped to match WotLK item levels.

this or Raging Deathbringer are very good options for any fury warriors planning on changing back to 1h weps in Cata, if you can get your hands on a pair.
