So, they're trying to make the Rod only usable in Ashenvale again in Cataclysm. This should be interesting...ly disturbing if you're Horde.

This is the version that was put in after the shattering, if you still have the old rod, you can complete the quest and you WILL KEEP it. Just in case I put the old one in my bank, I can't confirm what happens when you carry both but they are different items so in theory they shouldn't both dissapear.

Anyway, hope this helps people that are wondering about it like I was before I decided to take a step in the dark and go for it.

You can now purchase the Stave of Fur and Claw if you're annoyed you can't keep the new rod (it doesn't work outside Ashenvale). Note that the old rod still works fine, and you can do all the new Cata quests with it in your bags without worrying about losing it.
