Got this on my third kill of the dwarfs in Giant's Run - Howling Fjord. Might just be luck though.

This is used in Shipment: Wicked Sun Brooch, one of the new daily JC quests in Dalaran.

It's not luck the drop rate is about 30-40% but not everyone who kills this mob will have the quest so the item will never drop for them. That means the drop rate goes down dramaticly.
Done this quest everyday for 3 day's now and had it the 1th or 2th mob.

The drop rate is definitely higher than it says, I'd guess around 50-60% I usually get it on the 1st or 2nd mob.

If you are comming from Dalaran, the closest place to get this is the abandoned camp south east of Temple of Storms. The Stormforged Tracker and Stormforged Artificer are around: 37.0, 67.2.

These also have a chance to drop off the dwarfs while doing Spy Hunter. One of the Sons of Hodir dailys in Storm Peaks. Easy way to kill two birds with one stone.

I've killed atleast 50 Iron Rune Steelguards, it still didn't drop :S

This Item hasn't had an updated comment for 10 years, so here's a brand-new update for March 2020;

Super-Easy way to acquire this Brooch for the Dalaran Jewelcrafting Daily:

Take your favorite Flying Mount out of the Magic Bag you store them in for most of the day, mount up, and fly NorthEast over the wall of Dalaran. Fly in a direct line NE towards The Storm Peaks, crossing first into Icecrown. Fly over the top of Crusaders Pinnacle. Keep flying straight and pass over the top of The Breach. A few moments later you will cross into The Storm Peaks. Line up for the notch in the mountains called Rohemdal Pass. Enter the Pass, hugging the left side of the ravine. Beware the Harpies if you are low-level.

Keep to the left and you will see a cave in the mountain on your left. This mountain has 3 trees on the peak and Sirana Iceshriek, a 'Quest' NPC, flapping around the top of it. The cave you are looking for is called Frostgrip's Hollow. If you find yourself out over the frozen blue-ice river called Bor's Breath, you've gone too far.

Enter the cave.

You are now in a 'target-rich environment'. Kill however many Iron Dwarves you want to kill, there's no bag limit. I turned *ONE* Stormforged Pillager into a popsicle and found the fancy pin at the mouth of the cave, the first Iron Dwarf my Mage ever fragged. Quest item obtained!

Leave the cave if you can't Portal, pop your mount and fly straight forward until you are out into Rohemdal Pass. Turn to your Right, and you can -literally- see Dalaran straight ahead.

Go get your Token.
