Does anyone know if you need to keep all 25 tabards after you get the achievement to keep the reward/achievement?

ie. If I would vendor 2 tabards after getting the achievement, bringing my total down to 24 tabards, would I lose the achievement and the reward tabard?

Nope. You just have to have 25 tabards at a point when the achievement is recorded (post-3.0). Achievements aren't lost once gained.

I hope they have alot more tabards in Wrath then, like for each high end achivement like Loremaster and the 100,000 HK one, because currently you would have needed at least one of the past tabards like the competitor's to even achive this (outside of TCG) from what it looks like, and that's after farming exhalted with all of the TBC reps.

On the other hand, this is easily my favorite looking tabard by far.

Incorrect. Events in TBC allow you to obtain tabard through events such as the quest in Shadowmoon Valley. Draenei also obtain "Tabard of the Hand" at a very low level in the starting zone. Scarlet Crusade tabard is also pretty easy to farm for. Case in point, there are some additional tabards to obtain besides loot codes that will help you obtain this achievement.

I'm on the hunt for this tabard at the moment, but after doing a bit of research I have come to the conclusion, that this is not obtainable without TCG tabards yet.

Theoretically, I suppose you could get both the Scryer and Aldor tabard. Grind to exalted with one buy the tabard and do the quests to start the long way up to exalted with the other.

I have indeed obtained this.

I made use of all reputation tabards available to the Alliance, with the exception of the battleground tabards. I did use the Private's Tabard. I used both the Aldor and Scryer tabards. I also had counted the SM tabard, the Illidari tabard, the Competitor's Tabard, the Draenei quest tabard (Tabard of the Hand), the new Argent Dawn tabard and the Tabard of Summer Flames.

I padded this number with four of the UDE Redemption tabards obtained by means of the TCG game. I bought the points rather inexpensively on eBay for five dollars a tabard.

Like most Achievement rewards, this item is awarded by mail that appears in your Mailbox as soon as you earn it.

The mail, from Windle Sparkshine, a Kirin Tor gnome in Dalaran, reads:

Subject: Quite the Achiever

"I couldn't help but notice what a fine collection of Tabards you've managed to collect over the seasons. You might as well add this one to your collection. It's simply been gathering dust in my wardrobe."

you can destroy your green or purple trophy tabard and restore the one you did NOT have and will add another tabard to the list of ones you have acquired (deleting your tabards dosent reduce the count by 1)

EDIT: tabard vendors by the guild creators will restore tabards from quests etc

It is possible to buy the Argent Dawn Tabard from the new quartermasters using the Necrotic Runes as currency, I believe the amount is 8 runes. (please correct me if Im off on the number). This is good to do if you want the tabard and because it is an achievement to get the bloody thing.

I have been looking in my atlasloot and counted tabards for the Horde and Alliance tabards. I came up to 4 tabards that you can get through reputaion and pvp. The first 4 tabards which is from Wotlk is easy to get. just friendly reputation with Ebon Blade, Wyrmrest, Argent Crusade and Kirin Tor. After that comes the harder part.

Now you can get 11 tabards from the BC. Get exalted reputation with all the eleven factions (2 single horde and alliance factions and then scryers or aldors). And the illidari tabard from SMV quest in Path of conquest. When you have gained all those tabards you should have 17 tabards.

Now we will try to get the last tabards. There is 5 tabards from PvP. The WSG tabard that costs 60 marks, AV tabard costs 60 marks too and then the AB tabard when you must get exalted with The Defilers. Then there is 2 more tabards which you gain through 20 and 3 AB, WSG and AV marks. It's then Scout, private, stone guard and knight's tabard.

The we have the 2 easiest tabards. The guild tabard and the scarlet crusade tabard. After these tabards we should have 24 tabards. Blood elf paladins, draenei, TCG tabards or players who have been in old events for tabards are done now but those who stays at 24 tabards such I will do I don't know if the 2 achievement tabards (of doing quests or exploring will count in this) But I hope it will do so.

Loremaster one is definitely not that high on my list. Also if you get the purple or green illardi tabard just destroy it, go to a tabard vendor and they will offer both the purple and the green, you simply choose the one you didn't get originally, BAM! 2 tabards for the...um...efforts of one!

In 3.1 there will be tabards obtainable for all the "Home factions" of the Alliance and Horde, ie Darnassus, Darkspear Trolls, ect. This will make this tabard vastly easier to obtain, since it's the last few tabards that are challenging.

You can cheat this achievement with PVP reward tabards that cost battleground marks by purchasing them and immediately reselling them back to the vendor and refunding the marks used, it adds to the count but doesn't take away from it, also works with any tabard not purchased with gold.

Seems as of 3.2 on test the Argent Crusade tabards count towards this. I've only obtained a Stormwind Tabard so far, but I'd assume they all work
The 2 new tabards - Silver Covenent Tabard and Argent Crusader's Tabard also count.

I just wish there was a 'wardrobe' to stick them all in that only took up one bank slot or, better still, none! I don't want to ditch them but they're taking up too much room! Agh!

Edit: I now have 28 tabards. They fill up my bank's main slots. /sigh No! I refuse to throw any away! I once threw away my Competitor's Tabard because I thought it was useless and took up space. Now I regret it and wish I could get it back! (I still have the achievement, though)

Edit 2: I sent a ticket to a GM asking if it would be possible to retrieve the Competitor's Tabard. They sent a message back saying that it wasn't possible as they couldn't prove that I'd originally received it. Went to my achievements page and the achievement was gone. >.< Gee thanks.

Not sure if this has been mentioned.
Faction transferring your character when you have about 23/25 tabards will most likely result in you completing the achievement due to some tabards switching over from the alliance versions to horde versions and vice versa (i.e. kurenai to mag'har).
You'll lose your old tabard but the achievement still counts it.

This is most likely a bug, and I am not sure if it has been fixed or not.

Just a warning to anyone who reads these comments and thinks, "With the removal of BG marks I can just farm honor and get all these nifty tabards once I hit 20k! (the price of Knight's Colors)", think again.
Just bought Knight's Colors with the intent of returning and buying the 2 others I needed for my achievement, and I cannot return it to the vendor.

So, if, for example, you got the faction tabards with Argent Tournament marks, and then switch faction, do you get to keep and get credit for the tabards you got? Or do they swap to the respecting tabards? I.e. Getting the Orc tabard Horde side, and then switching to Alliance, would you keep the Orgrimmar tabard, or would it change to a Stormwind tabard?

My favorite tabard besides the Stormpike Battle Tabard which goes very well with certain warlock PvP gear, at least I think it goes well with it.

Also, one way of getting this would be to get some tabards from the Argent Tournament, I believe you can get six tabards per faction each costing 50 Champion's Seals. In total it would cost you 300 Champion's Seals to get six and if Gilneas/Bilgewater Cartel tabards get added in Cataclysm you will be able to get seven tabards per faction which would amount to 350 Champion's Seals.

Note: I believe it would be a very long Grind of dailies and so on to get the tabards, but it would be an effective way of getting more tabards and not to mention the very cool looking Tabard of the Achiever. There are however, more tempting things to buy for these seals such as mounts and pets which I personally would rather attain before I try to get the tabards, I just find the Great Red Elekk and other such mounts more appealing than having to grind for the tabards. You would also have to become a Champion for each one of your faction's home cities, however this would earn you the 'Champion of the Alliance' or 'Champion of the Horde' achievement.

Anyway, without further ado, here are the various Alliance Argent Tournament Tabards and their Horde counterparts, priced at 50 Champion's Seals each:

Lorewise it would make no sense as Gilneas and Bilgewater Cartel would have had no involvement in the Argent Tournament, but gameplay-wise it makes perfect sense for those tabards to be added as well as a Gilnean and a Bilgewater Cartel Argent Tournament Vendor for their respective factions. This is purely based on assumptions which have little backing so it is quite possible, but unlikely, that this will not happen.

All in all it is probably easier to grind for other tabards than to spend ~~hours~~ ~~days~~ ~~weeks~~ months grinding for the Argent Tournament ones.

Since the release of Cataclysm this tabard is actually quite easy to obtain. Cataclysm alone saw the release of six home city tabards for each faction as well as six additional tabards for the new Cataclysm factions. That's already twelve tabards that you can get very easily.

I just got this tabard today, and most of the tabards I acquired required very little work on my part.

This is incredibly easy to obtain now, here's how:
6 tabards from each races of your faction.
4 WotLK Rep Tabards.

If you have 40 Tol' Barad Commendations you can buy the tabard equip it and return it.
Guild Tabard
Illidari tabard, get one from quest, delete it, get other from tabard designer
Do the same as above if you have a tabard of summer flames/skies.
Grind honor for a while to buy Silverwing tabard.
Grind rep with kurenai, should only take a day or 2.
Private's tabard and Knight's Colors.
Should be able to do it in a week.

In Cataclysm, this will be rather easy to achieve. At least it will be alot easier compared to last time. I personally achieved this using the following tabards. Note : This method does require level 85 to complete.

1-6. All six faction tabards from your respective faction

7-10. Kirin Tor, Wyrmrest, Ebon Blade & Argent Crusade tabards

11-16. All of the Cata rep tabards

17-18. The honor tabards from your honor quartermasters for 150 honor

19. Tabard of the Explorer - Explore Northrend

20 - 21. The Illidari Tabards from SMV quest, if you don't know how to get those, use Wowhead.

22. Farm SM Armory for the Scarlet tabard.

23. Shattered Sun Tabard from spamming dailies in Quel'danas

24. Kurenai/Mag'har Tabard - Why? Because its rather easy to grind these mobs, 6-8 hours of hardcore work massacre'ing around 800 ogres and then turning in the beads should get you exalted with them. Do this ontop of their regular quests.

25. A tabard of your choice, I personally chose the Argent Dawn tabard because it was rather easy to grind.

Achievement complete. Enjoy your new, and I should say, very nice looking, tabard.

EDIT : On an additional note, if you're doing this during Summer Festival, you can skip any of the 2 tabards listed above and just get the tabs from the festive chain quest.

I once threw away my Competitor's Tabard because I thought it was useless and took up space. Now I regret it and wish I could get it back! (I still have the achievement, though)

Since you have the achievement, a gm can send the tabard to you.

When I understood that some old things did have a value, and I had deleted them back then, I was very unhappy.
One of the items I had deleted was this tabard, even before the achievements system.
However I did have the Spirit of Competition, and the achievemnt for it.
So I once stumbled upon a quite nice gm, and after asking what I opened the ticket for, I asked if he could return me my tabard. Since I didn't have the achievement for it, it wouldn't be easy for him to give me the tabard. But someone got the tabard at the first battleground win, and I already had the pet, which meant that I had won at least one bg. I eventually received a mail containing the tabard, and spent a nice 4 hours talking to that gm till the end of his shift =)

This item looks surprisingly good with the current tier pieces for priests (Tier 12) as it compliments the set nicely with similar colors and design, definitely a keeper if tier 13 is a let down (thank-you transmogrification!)

When I faction changed from Alliance to Horde I tried equipping my new Horde faction tabards and much to my surprise they counted toward the achievement!

So far after the Pandaria patch and many achievments became account bound including items, titles, mounts from them this does not include to that list sadly.
Insegna dello Storico Does though and can be obtained from the tabard vendor on a toon if you got the loremaster achievment.

Update:
This has been updated and can now be obtained from the tabard vendor just like loremaster's colors and tabard of the explorer. You simply say you have lost yours and get one :)

Now with the release of MoP: If you've earned the achievement it will be account-bound and the tabard will be obtainable by any of your characters. Simply speak to the tabard vendor (located for example in a any capital city, next to the guild creation/vendors) and a dialog option will appear: "I've lost my Tabard of the Achiever, would like another".

OK, I just walked up the the Tabard vendor on my Mid-Level Rogue and she had 2 options other than browsing her goods....one was for losing my Tabard af the Achiever and one for Tabard of the Explorer, as I clicked on these they were put into my inventory, so I guess that if your alts did not actually earn the requirements to get it, this is a way for all of them to get these tabards to wear anyway...

The tabard will be avalible for all your characters when the achievement is completed.
Just speak with a tabard vendor and tell him/her that you lost your tabard of the achiever.

I was awarded this tabard while cooking old Legion recipes in Boralus. Mid 'dried mackerel strips', I earned the achievement 'Twenty Five Tabards'. As if that wasn't weird enough, my tabard count at the time was 18. Not complaining. Just... whut.
