Yes, I'm sure these stats are nice for you hunters, but again hunters are being greedy and seeing only what they want to see.

Notice that 222 dps? notice that min and max damage? yeah that's currently the highest DPS 2H that's been posted. I'm sure there will be others that beat it, no doubt about that, but if you think warriors, paladins and perhaps even death knights will pass on this, because it "benefits you more" you are sadly, sadly mistaken.

Every guild I've been in, hunters get priority on just about every ranged weapon there is, but not once did I see hunters do the same for high DPS melee weapons that they obviously only want for the passive stats. The unwritten rule is pointless.

Me being a warrior I'll have no problem whatsoever taking this over a hunter at all. In fact Im planning to dual wield these. They seem perfect to me for a TG warrior.

Well actually.. (and this isn't even my point)
Divine Strength 15% more strength.
BoK 10% more stats.
Armageddon gives 101 strength.
With divine strength 116 strength.
with BoK 127 strength.
254 attack power.

Gains from Armageddon:
Awesome looks.
DKP.
1.15% haste.
28 attack power.

(this is my point)
long story short, there isn't a world of difference between these weapons.
I'd rather look hot and deal good dps instead of looking like a retard and deal good dps.

There are just some melee weapons that are designed for melee, and some for ranged.
Just like some ranged weapons are designed for melee and some for ranged.
Typical examples are bows or crossbows that have attack power, crit rating or strength, a hunter should always know to pass on these "melee oriented bows"

yes i agree if it has strength it is melee orientated but wtf attack power and crit rating are the 2 stats u need most as a hunter if something ranged has attack power and crit rating then that should go to a hunter, same with this weapon i would like to have it but i wouldnt take it over a melee class that would benefit more from it

Definitely agree with some of the things people are saying.

You hunters needs to learn to accept that you can't have everything. If Blizzard truly wanted this to be a hunter item, they would have made it a polearm with low max damage. Since you guys obviously dont give a !@#$ about the damage on the weapon, you are just going for the stats, the same way melees go for ranged weapons for the stats. Would you be fine with us rolling on Envoy of Mortality then? Because I fail to see how that is any different.

Why did hunters always get priority on Thori'dal? I assure you those stats make it the best Rogue/Warrior ranged weapon as well, its because you hunters want it for the max damage and DPS on it. It benefits you more.

Why did rogues get priority on Warglaives? The main hand amazing for warriors too, but the offhand is completely !@#$, so it benefits the rogues more, for the set bonus they'd get.

This weapon is no different. You guys would only get the stats from it, and completely waste the dps and max damage on this thing. We melees, however, who swing this thing every raid use everything on here.

I guess the simply fix would be to change it to strength instead, but I'm sure the reason they did this is so they wouldnt have to make another "hunter weapon" from Kel'Thuzad. Blizzard seems to want to make most items highly disirable for a lot of different classes, and this is what you get.

Oh, and one last thing, for those people that were saying that we TG warriors should be going for +hit weapons instead, with the recent change to Titans Grip, we wont need that much hit anymore. I'm confident we can get yellow hit capped without any +hit weapons, so max damage all the way!

@Naruaeon: Too bad I'm in a raiding guild that for some occasion doesn't roll on raid items. I'd prefer 3.8 / 3.9 speed two handed axe, as a shaman. Whit stormstrike and some haste (Flurry, wf totem etc..) would be cool to have around 3 sec speed whit +1200 top end damage. (Owner of Dragonspine trophy!). Maybe this weapon is more like Titan's Grip weapon because it is fast. .. also i have noticed that almost all end-boss weapons are fast 2h's. ya know, this whole 'hunter weapon' ordeal would be easily solved if they'd just put some STR on the item for stats instead of AGI(or even a combo of both) then if you hear 'hunter weapon' you could laugh them off the interweb.

That said i'm a hunter, and even though the stats on this are great for a hunter, the dps and usefulness to a 2h melee class(war/dk/ret paly) overshadows the stat usefulness for us 10fold. Not to mention it's a marginal stat upgrade over some polearms found on earlier naxx10/kalycgos.

I know that there is a lot of hate for hunters needing on weapons such as these, however the hard fact is that this is the best weapon a hunter can have in the game.

Now having said that I would never need on it over a melee class such as a warrior or paly (as a matter of fact it dropped for our guild last reset and all 3 hunters were more than happy to pass on this for our dps warrior)...

However I will still be using my dkp to get this once our melees have this. I know the actual dps range on this weapon is wasted on us but the stats on this bad boy are too good to ignore.

If you use the new Journey's End in patch 3.0.8 you will gain:

+21 Agility
-7 Stamina
-30 Critical Strike Rating
+18 Haste Rating
+44 Attack Power

Which should make this the new stat stick over Betrayer of Humanity. Atleast this will be the case for Survival Hunters who already got high Critical Strike Chance.

Well in-fact would be fair for an enhance shaman to roll for it/spend dkp against a hunter.
Obviously raiding Enhance shamans (how ever few) use it as their main dps as compared to hunters who use melee only occasionally/in PvP (slightly less overall).

There is a strange graphical bug with the weapon at the moment. The glow on the axe actually goes through your character's body. Kinda annoying to have a big glowy circle in the middle of her chest. It moves around when you change camera angle.
Otherwise, awesome axe!

I'd say you're correct, partially. On one hand, at certain gear levels (lower end) if manage to grab one of these the hit or expertise of those two items would be more beneficial (if you don't get an axe spec racial), since you don't have the gear to switch in pieces with less avoidance/defense to make up for it and almost every gem will no likely be straight defense.

However, after the patch (due to the defense runeforge if you wish to use it) or after a certain gear level, that won't be the case, and you'll be able to fit more pieces into your gear without gimping yourself. Once they became less of an issue, I'd have to say that after using Death's Bite and Betrayer for tanking, that the threat difference is not 'slight' in the least.

This is the best weapon available for ANY dps class capable of using 2-Handers if hit capped.

Black Ice is also a nice option. I personally will be going for the polearm instead leaving this for the pallies, warriors, and DK's

Death's Bite is inferior to Betrayer of Humanity in every way for tanking. Betrayer offers higher stamina, higher avoidance, higher mitigation through a small amount of extra armor as well as higher threat generation. Strength is good as a stat for both threat generation and a small amount of avoidance, but agility is a much better stat for avoidance. The much higher damage on Betrayer makes it the clear choice for the best threat generation as well.

Before diminishing returns, assuming Blessing of Kings, mitigation wise
the 66 agility on Betrayer of Humanity will give:
0.99% dodge
145 armor

the 101 strength on Death's Bite will give:
0.56% parry

I don't know where this myth formed that strength is better than agility for mitigation, but it is purely wrong. Death's Bite offers inferior mitigation at the cost of lower threat generation and lower stamina. There is no advantage to using Death's Bite.

The two best tanking weapons for death knights currently are Inevitable Defeat and Betrayer of Humanity. The first offers the best mitigation, while the second offers better threat generation. Depending on the situation either can be considered the best tanking weapon. Death's Bite on the other hand isn't even in the competition.

After doing much research around the current top Items available for the hunter, putting them together with Black Ice or Betrayer of Humanity just so I can have my hit cap, Black Ice came out on top because of Haste Rating (summed from all the items). The AP and Crit Rating you can get with both weapons, combined with the rest of the items, comes out very very similar in the end.

So I'd assume that Black Ice would be more favored by Marksmanship and Survival Hunters (because of the masses of hit on it, you can get other stuff with haste instead of hit).

And to be honest. Yes, this should go to a melee if you ask ME.

I look at it this way:
I'm on my hunter and an awesome bow drops...sweet! I get it even though it's an upgrade for the rogue in my party...why?..because it's my 'main' weapon.

I kind of feel the same way about melee weapons. If I'm on my hunter and this drops, I'm not taking it over any melee class who needs it....why?...because it's their 'main' weapon. I can get by with what I have in my melee slots for the time being, because I have the great bow that dropped earlier.

Does that make sense? It was all hypothetical, of course, but I think it's an opinion shared by a lot of fellow hunters.

This is still nice for a hunter. However, if said hunter has a chance at Black Ice, they should probably be going for that instead. My guild doesn't use dkp, and as a hunter I would roll on it. However, I'd still pass for our ret paladins/death knights.

As a Death Knght tank, I would rather let everyone else have their chances at this before I grab this one, mainly due to the high DPS on it.

Warriors, Ret Paladins, and even the Hunters can make a much better use of the raw DPS and the stats on the weapon than some silly Death Knight who wants to upgrade from her Titansteel Destroyer. Why were everyone's comments below Morbow's downrated? They're all true. This is THE best melee weapon in-game at the moment. It's only natural that melee dps should get it before anyone else. Hunters shouldn't take priority on getting this item before a melee dps on any given day. Now if all the other melee dps had it then fine, go ahead and roll for it. But honestly, melee dps would see the biggest change in their dps and contribute much more to the raid than a Hunter would in getting this.

Just my two cents...

This weapon is no longer a best in slot choice for a hunter and should never go to one post 3.08. the Journey's End is the best 2h wep if hit is no longer needed, and if it is both the black ice and double sinister's revenge are better. Honestly, this shouldn't even be an option for a hunter anymore as they have many other choices that are actually better and as mentioned its the only 222 dps wepon and best in slot for multiple classes (dk/pal/war)

However, should never really be an issue in any serious raiding guild.

I disagree. I think swords look way better taking to account hit animations, parries and just as well the looks of the items. I'd say a jagged blade looks more threatening then a feathered axe, and I've always thought of axes as a lumberjack's tool :P

As a paladin I'd say it's good for a hunter aswell. However, as Kel'Thuzad drops Journey's End http://www.wowhead.com/?item=40388 in 25 man, I'd say they should rather go for that staff. More agility, more AP more haste a little less critical strike raiting.

Anyway I don't know why it says Increases attack power by 2353 in Cat, Bear, Dire Bear, and Moonkin forms only. It doesn't say so in-game itself. I don't know if it's because it's to be changed, but it's definatly not a bad staff for a hunter in my opinion.

After reading a lot of nonsense in the comments for this item, I figured I would sum up the comments for fellow readers here-on after with what I found most beneficial (in no particular order of importance):

This and Inevitable Defeat from Naxx (25) are considered the best Death Knight tanking weapons in the game at the moment (patch 3.0.8). Inevitable Defeat is the winner in overall mitigation, this is better for threat. The post stating this was highly rated and so I assumed it to be accurate and yes, Death's Bite from Naxx (10) was considered.
This weapon has no Strength (which is usually a stat added to specify that a weapon was intended for a melee DPS class) and has raw attack power instead making this weapon perfectly viable for a hunter. However, seeing as how this weapon has the highest DPS for any melee class, if you're attempting to maximize the raid's DPS as opposed to maximizing a single person's, then priority for this weapon should go to melee classes before hunters.
At the time of this post, the next content patch is months away. That being said, people who are even looking at this weapon for informative reasons rather than just to drool shouldn't be worried because it is those same people who actually are capable of downing Kel'Thuzad and will probably see this weapon drop a lot (seeing as there is little else in terms of end game content to explore until the next patch).

To summarize the nonsense for those interested:

Honestly. My main is a Resto druid, my old raider in BC was a hunter. When i was running naxx on my hunter we downed Kel on heroic and this dropped. In my personnal opinion Black Ice is a bit better than this. Just because of the raw agility on it.

Btw Journey's End imo is also better than this.

i play a hunter and im gonna be the realistic one here. YES this is a great weapon for a hunter, but to be honest we're NOT hand to hand we're ranged. so if you're going into naxx ya need to be more worried bout someone ninjaing the arrowsong before this. if it was my call and there was a fury warrior in group this would be going to them first. so to all the hunters out there whining that this is a "hunter weapon" then learn your role and stay ranged (what are ya gonna do anyway equip it then run head first into a fight with it? melee is our LAST resort) and stop being the stereotypical "greed before need" and let the dps'es have it.

It is perhaps normal but it does seems odd a pure stats item deals more dps than this axe who is clearly a melee damage weapon in first place, it is nice for hunters but the melee dpser will get more use of it.

Dumac, wands have always been high dps weapons simply because the onlything affecting them is agility for crit (not even sure if that applies in wotlk) and thus their damage will be virtually unaltered (with the regular migitations applied ofc).

It is nice though to have the possibility to wand when you're a caster and oom. Let's you regen some mana without flat dps.

The axe is pure sex (see im on topic!)

Would this be a good axe for a dwarf hunter to use? I looked threw the pictures on this page and it didnt show a dwarf but it did show a gnome and gnomes are even shorter than dwarfs like me are so dwarfs should be able to use this axe right? The main distinguishing stat on this weapon is its DPS, which is nearly 20 higher than the DPS on any other weapon in the game at the moment. The simple fact that hunters will not benefit from this exceptional DPS in any way whatsoever should keep this axe out of their hands while plate DPS still need it. In other words, for the stats that hunters find most significant on a melee weapon (Agi, AP, crit, etc.) there are other weapons out there that are comparable--even better; for the stats that melee DPS classes find most significant on a melee weapon (pure DPS) nothing else even comes close.

So the argument really comes down to which is more important to your raid, one of your hunters getting an extra 10-or-so AP and some crit (hypothetical) or one of your melee DPS increasing their overall damage output by a solid 20+ DPS.

Still, I'm puzzled why Blizzard would include so much agility on the best 2h melee weapon in game. Lower the overall DPS a bit and slap on some strength IMO. It's like they're asking for an idiot war.

Frostmourne won´t be a drop from Arthas anyway since no player would be able to pick it up without loosing himself to the Lich King like Arthas did.

The only problem with that statement is that Arthas and the Lich King/Ner'zhul are now the same being. If you kill "it" you get rid of the Lich King. Story elements could make the Frostmourne have to be destroyed if it was part of the Lich King soul (or something like that). I would much rather it be purified by some quest chain much like the Corrupted Ashbringer was thought to be for some time. I still long for the day to see an Ashbringer on the back of some ret paladin.

On the flip side, seeing a war DW Ashbringer/Frostmourne would tickle me in some rather interesting spots.

In original naxx kt would drop Might of Menethil, ~~which was prolly Arthas' hammer before he picked up Frostmourne~~. This I think is supposed to be the replacement for that, hence the name, Arthas, the Betrayer of Humanity. Could also be a reference to how Kel Thuzad himslef betrayed humanity and became a lich. Might of Menethil's model was given to the 2h mace Demise.

Edit- I was wrong :P Light's Vengence is Arthas' hammer before he got Frostmourne.

you know its a shame that Enhance shamans are forced to dw if they ever want to dps i would love to see a windfury proc on this baby best part is its itemized perfectly with agil giving 66 more attack pwr to a shaman than to a warr totaling 292 attack pwr to a shaman (and hunters sadly). anyways the attack pwr makes this weapon a useful drop if there is no warr/deathknight/ret paladin which is rare. strength instead of attack power would take this over the edge and make it godly

Speaking as a ret pally who got this tonight, Armageddon is inferior to this in almost every way. The topend on this is nearly 80 more than the topend of the sword, meaning almost everything you do with this will do more damage than the sword will. The speeds are the same, the crit on this is much higher, not to mention the extra percent you'll get from all that agility. The haste loss is way more than made up for by the much better crit this weapon brings. The only thing the sword wins out over the axe in is attack power, because ret pallies will get 15% (25% with kings) extra strength, meaning the sword gives roughly 24 more attack power than this axe does.

However, if you're a ret paladin who already has the sword, and there's a melee in the raid still using a Titansteel Destroyer (or anything worse, such as The Tuning Fork of Justice) and this drops, I'd say you'd be correct in passing on this axe so they can get it, as it would be a bigger dps boost for them than it would be for you.

/sigh. Does no one pay atention to lore anymore. When Arthas became the lich king, the spirit of Ner'zhul entered him and completely fused with him. Therefore Arthas and the being known as Ner'zhul ceased to seperately exist. If you kill one the other dies as well. When you kill the lich king in Icecrown, then the being known as Ner'zhul will cease to exist at the same time that Arthas ceases to exist. It doesnt matter what contained the spirit of Ner'zhul since his spirit was physically moved from what contained it to Arthas where the two spirits merged. No word either way on if i think that Frostmourne will be a drop or not, since idiots downrate anything that they disagree with instead of anything that provides false information, but it wouldnt allow Ner'zhul to posses you as was the case with Arthas. If you take the information in this post though i dont think blizzard will be able to resist making it a drop if they can find anyway to justify it. Im sure this post is going to get downrated by aforementioned idiots, so anyone who does manage to read this you can get the referance points from the piece that plays during the instalation of WotLK from the disc or downloaded file, and at the end of WC3: The Frozen Throne

*When the Lich King is killed, the power of Frostmourne would decrease. If it is a drop, it will scale down in power due to Ner'zhul's death. It will simply be an extremely powerful rune-blade.

*About the comment involving the book Arthas: Rise of the Lich King. It is an official product, but it is not written by the man who writes the lore for WoW in Blizzard. Therefore there will be some slight inconsistancies between the info in the book and the official lore. If you wish to play through the first campaign in WC3: Reign of Chaos you will see that after Arthas uses the powers of Frostmourne to kill Mal'Ganis, his will is overtaken by Ner'zhul. If you take this fact into account then its clear that Arthas wouldnt destroy Ner'zhul since in essence Ner'zhul would be destroying himself. Quoting from the installer clip "Entering Icecrown Citadel, Arthas merged with the Lich King, their spirits and powers becoming one. The new Lich King ascended the Frozen Throne." Simplifying they became the same being completely. But thank you for bringing up that point Michaelbo121

*The biggest problem to looting off Frostmourne as an actuall drop is that idiots like Naecken that dont know the lore behind things would complain about them. As well as arguements about factions on whether the allys and their human sword and mace bonuses or the orcs should get the axe bonus for the 2h BiS. It saved them time to flip a coin on whether it would be an axe or a sword and then there all going to go hit up their friends at square to get the drugs they were on when they made FF12 to write a backstory to the axe that makes no sense. Then in the end Ensidia laughs at the arguements and their mages put this in the do not trade window just to laugh at people. The End

Hunts take lowest priority to recieving a melee weapon. If your master looter would give this to you just for the sake of a wing clip which any mele weapon can do, then your ML fails at existance. Melee weapons from raids go to the melee classes since the melee classes get the most benefit from a melee weapon. Have i emphasised melee about this item enough? Get a pvp weapon for pvp. Not too hard anymore with WG being a total honor farm...

Stathisdjs.... your one of the huntards that thinks that any weapon that you can equip was made for you. Warriors used this as the BiS because A. it was the best base damage in the game when it first came out, and B. because weapons that are itemized with agi and stam with AP and other stats have more points towards dps levels than a weapon with str in 99% of the cases. Basic example:

str sword. 100 str and 100 stam with 50 hit and 50 crit rating. nice isnt it

agi sword. 80 agi and 100 stam with 50 hit, 50 crit, and 180 ap. add up the points that are alogated towards dps compared to the str weapon. agi provides crit on top of the rest of the stats therefore giving this item a larger amount of itemization towards dps.

and once again, the way that melee works. as a plate dps in 99.9% of the cases, youll want weapons that hit harder. a skill that does 125% weapon damage will do more damage with a harder hiting weapon since the swing speed of your weapons doesnt affect cool downs. therefore when you hit 10 times in the same amount of time with the skill that does 125% weapon damage, youll do more damage if your weapon hits for 200 with a 4.0 speed, than if your weapon hits for 100 with a 2.0 speed. the reason that melee weapons go to melee is that while your hunter may get good stats off this weapon, the melee will see a much larger improvement on their dps when you give them a weapon that hits harder than if we give it to you who gains 20 ap and another .2% crit. that way well down that boss easier next week and you whinny hunters can get it that week

The TPS on this weapon is AMAZING for tanking Death Knights.

This and http://www.wowhead.com/?item=40406 are arguably the 2 best tanking weapons for Death Knights at the moment.

I have both, currently using http://www.wowhead.com/?item=40406 as an avoidance weapon, and BoH as a TPS weapon.

Also the best 2H DPS weapon for any melee DPS class before Ulduar hits.

My main is a hunter, and tonight I intervened to stop the other hunter in our raid outbidding two DKs on this. That then left her with enough dkp to win the bidding for her t7.5 helm, so it turned out well for all of them.

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who's chipped in to this discussion, since reading the comments here, even if they're sometimes a bit fractious, was what made me confident enough to insist that it should be left to the DKs.

This is a awsome weapon as many people have said, i find it good for both tanking and DPS (simple matter of changing runes on it) and i was lucky enough to get it on my first 25man naxx against 4 Dks 3 paladin and 2 warriors.

This dropped for me a few days ago. After six months of raiding and no new weapon upgrades this was a godsend. This was also one of the more interesting KT fights I experienced. We lost almost all the melee dps to a frost tomb early on, so I was the only one left. Several ranged people died from MCs and a few of the newest raiders got killed by the red rings of death. When the adds came we were already at half strength. Then, due to a line of sight issue, our tank died. A backup tank ran in, but the adds were running around, slicing people's heads off! Someone threw on a shield and emergency tanked them. Heroism was popped and by this time we were dropping like flies. With 5% left on KT our tanks died and all that was left was about 10 dps and a few healers. We DPSed like we had never DPSed before. I watched his health tick away....ever so slowly as we dropped one by one. Then suddenly KT turned his attention to me! He only had about 50,000 health left and I hit him with as many executes as I could. All at once I died and so did he. Only three people were left standing. Hah, a one shot on Kel, but barely! Once I was rezzed I quickly ran over to his corpse. And there it was, Betrayer of Humanity. The first time it had dropped for our raid group, nay, our entire guild it seems. And it went to me. So long Claymore of the Prophet! Now I'm rocking with this and Inevitable Defeat.

Sorry to crash your party hunters, but if you roll on this over a melee class don't count on them sparing Black Ice or Envoy of Mortality for you. My only 80 is a hunter and i wouldn't dare roll on this. Unless a particular warrior won Envoy over you don't get us an even worse reputation. We have enough haters as it is due to the majoirty of us tending to roll on everything we can use. Don't make it worse :)

P.S.- I can understand if i get downrated but i'm just saying that i would be horrified if raid lead were to give Envoy to a warrior over me.

This isn't only a hunter weapon since 1 str gives 2 ap to a war or a retpally or a dk, but agi gives 1 ap/1agi for warriors, retpallys and dks as well. For warriors and pallys, str improves block value by 0,5 bv/point of str (for prot pallys str increases spell power by 1/0,6), and for dks 1 point of str gives 0.25% parry chance. So, choosing a Betrayer as one of the aforementioned classes gives ~66+226=292 ap, which is highly above the average of ~210 ap gained from iLvL 213 two-handed weapons. As a bonus to the 87 crit rating as a green stat on the axe, a retpally gains ~1.1% crit while obtaining this weapon, warriors and dks gain ~1% crit chance from the 66 agility.

To sum up: Betrayer of Humanity was the most suitable choice for every 2h melee class at the opening of Naxxramas, though it functioned very well as a hunter weapon.

I remember when I was 73-ish leveling at the beginning of WOTLK and there was this huge Tauren Warrior dual wielding two of these. Everybody was still experimenting with the Titan's Grip thing. I literally shat myself when I saw that ! At least I was playing on a PVE realm at that time but boy what a shock I had.

Offtopic: I think I finally did naxx 10 in 3.2 while the guy above was doing Naxx 25 way before I was even close to dinging 80. Shows how much dedication some people have to the game and how sad it it to see so much work put in the game just become "obsolete" in future patches.

This is why I would love to see blizzard come up with ideas to at least make "class specific items" or legendaries feel like they will last forever (transmog and whatnot).
