This doesn't take into consideration talents such as Lightning Reflexes, and would not be a survival weapon due to the obvious factor of no agility.

Here is a little table for Armor Penetration

Armor Penetration is a bit more complex because it comes it varied amounts. If the boss has just SA x5 on it, then the effect of ArP is as follows:
100 ArP: 0.71%/0.64%
200 ArP: 1.43%/1.29%
300 ArP: 2.16%/1.95%
400 ArP: 2.91%/2.62%
500 ArP: 3.66%/3.3%

For a fully debuffed boss (SA x5, FF, CoR) the increase from ArP is:
100 ArP: 0.79%/0.71%
200 ArP: 1.59%/1.42%
300 ArP: 2.41%/2.15%
400 ArP: 3.24%/2.89%
500 ArP: 4.08%/3.64%

It's well known that AGI is more effective at increasing hunter ranged dps than AP. But AP is probably significantly better for melee.

All things considered, I'd rather all the AP+CRIT itemized honor and arena items have an AGI+CRIT variant. This would also help feral and rogue dps.

This axe will be added in the next major content patch: 2.3 It will come available when the Season 3 will start.

Every hunters out there should get this "stat-stick". If you look at the stats (here we're talking PvP-wise) you have a huge amount of Stamina (62), alot of resillience (33) and all the other stats you need (hit, crit, AP and even ArP).
Yes the axe does lack of Agi but the secondary stats make up for it. Remember, this is a PvP weapon. It is meant to suit the PvP environment.
As for the PvE side, due to the REALLY low cost of this weapon, it is worth getting it. It will take you more time to get something better than this axe than to get 1000 arena points.

Blizzard gave us hunters a gift by letting us buy such an amazing weapon for a low cost. Before, we had to pay for a Crossbow + Weapon for a total of 7500 points! Now, we get the same result but for 4750. We all know that hunters take their weapon for the stats and not for the damage. So it's a nice move. You should all get it.

hit rating is much needed in arena. 5% is a bare minimum, with 1% unavoidable miss rate and other classes' talent, 7% or more is not overkill.

The AP bonus is lower (compare with Legacy), and it has no agility, the stam, resil, crit rating are all much needed in arena. the high dps (even higher than Halberd of Desolation) is the icing on the cake, and it's not overpowered. hunter has no instant melee attacks based on weapon damage. hunter has just 1 melee ability (raptor strike) based on white (weapon) damage, but it scales badly (fixed pathetic damage bonus), it's on a cd, and it's on next swing. consider the 3.6 second weapon speed, the hunter will be doing much less dps staying in melee even with a lucky raptor strike crit.

there is no 2h upgrade for hunters over sonic spear/legacy in SSC or Eye (untill lass boss). next one in queue is in BT.

Any one out there able to tell me if this axe will be better with either Savagery on it or +35 agi (http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=28070)? Just wanna see the stats put out so I know if getting this is worth it.

I understand that this is a good idea for hunters but i think this is still unfair. Warriors and rogues yes can get a cheap throwing weapon but they rarely use it and when they do the damage isnt really going to make a huge difference. Where as a hunter with this is getting a huge stats boost in pvp and has a very strong mele weapon when they do get in close combat. I personally dont think it can compare to the little cost for a thowing weapon.

Even if you despise arena (like I do) you should ***highly*** consider putting up with arena for 2-4 weeks to get this. Ten quick games a week, and you will have this beauty which is on par with end game content gear. Definitely worth the investment especially if you don't have access to 25 man content.

the thing that i do not understand about this is why did they make a axe specialy for hunter "just for stats" that doesnt requir hunters to have any rating whatsoever.
but when we look at something els, lets say shields.
they still cost as much as most 1-h weapons do and requir a 1850 rating. and when upgraded from season 2 gear its just a minor boost.

If you're a Marksman hunter, the damage your axe is going to do is not that big of a deal- it's the stats that matter. Your pet is your melee weapon.

I love this axe! i use this on my hunter...I'm surprised they make it so easy to get compared to other classes having to require a lot more arena points for their weapons. I suggest all hunters use this axe, i havent seen any duel wielders out beat the stats on it yet unless their rolling with the top guilds in the server. It even looks awesome. Good job on blizz for that one =)

I know its all old hat now, but I by-passed Axe of the Harbinger to keep this beauty on my back. between the stats it comes with, slapping savagery on it, as I am more of a raiding hunter than PvP, which i detest overall, I dont see an improvement anytime soon, maybe when Lich King finally comes out, but have to wait for the Beta and see, i guess. Anyhoo, thats my two cents, well spent, IMO.

Very cool axe. Even if you are PvE oriented, you should get this axe, with PvE gear it may take 4-5 weeks to get the points, but worths. It has a very nice amount of attack power - most of hunters uses +35 agi on this, i think savagery (+70 AP) is better for PvE and PvP players too. There are some weps which has more AP on the same level, eg. Trollbane, but i think this is better because of hut rating and armor penetration, the 0.95% hit is not bad from one item. Many players preffer the 2x1hand weapons, i think 2H isbetter for hunters, you have to have very much hit rating to do big dmg and avoid miss-miss-parry series. Even, compare it with the 2xBrutal gladiator 1h hunter axes. The MH+OH has together 84 AP, this has 98 by itself. Not a big difference, but see that hunters can do much more successful hits with 2H weps, and also the armor penetration is bigger on it. I think, if you can reach 1800 rating, and have 3000 points, you should change it to the 3.60 speed version, the stats are the same, but since if, for exaple a rogue gets too near to you, you are dead if you have more time that what is enough for 1 hit, but that 1 hit does more dmg, especially if yoo use raptor strike or mongoose bite...

guys guys i rly dono the diference betwen this and 3750points axe just the faster one makes less dmg and slower one more dmg but its same pretty much and 1000ap and 3750+1850rating NOT SAME ! maybe hunters whana be "special " to have something that no just any 1 can or dono.. id took 1000ap one xD

It was discovered during this thread http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/2369923754 that the axe now has Death Knight added(So the DK adjustment by Wowhead is no goof). However it is no longer sold by any vendor.

As of 4.3 this item is available for purchase again, mainly for people wanting to transmogrify. It's sold by Kezzik l'Assalitore at Area 52 in Netherstorm for 1500 honor. He also sells all Season 1-3 arena weapons for honor, and the 1-3 arena Armor sets for honor, which until now were only available through tier 4-6 tokens.
