The effect of this gem, which as far as I can tell is a minable gem from BT, is the same as on the PVP gem which you can get for 6885 honor. However, the PVP gem effects seem not to stack, meaning you can only have a single such gem per armour piece. So this BT gem could then be an improvement.

The design for this gem is available when the crafter is Friendly with The Scales of Sand. It is the epic version of Smooth Dawnstone (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=24048)

The gem, Lionseye (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=32229,) is attained by trash mobs in Black Temple.

This and the other epic gems from TBC, Wrath and Cata now give the same stats as the Rare quality MoP cuts. This does not apply to Jewelcrafting BoP's from TBC and Wrath, but does for the Dragon's eye patterns from Cata.
