Btw, I never could get the +30 one from MC, it always went to an officer so it would stay in the guild until they left. So I went out and got this one at level 63 for myself. Mutiny!

It's definitely a low % drop (0.5-1.0%), but it's from the Spell Thief as mentioned. To the best of my knowledge there were 4 static spawn locations, 1 frequent patrol and 1 uncommon patrol.

Killing the other spawns in other locations will not cause more Spell Thief mobs to appear, so it's up to you if you want to bother with them, but I definitely recommend keeping those nagging beasts dead as they tend to muck with your kills.

Finally got the Formula on the last kill of the night (which was actually declared BEFORE I got the drop) - 4am after ~3-4 hours of grinding this spot over the course of two days.

1 roamer inside the camp and there is one roaming outside on the north east.

There is 4 more mobs all by the little sort of market stalls by the edge.

I just avoided the annoying "HP's of Ragnaros" beasties, they don't aggro while red if you shoot the mob next to them so I just looted the corpses when they went yellow.

As a mage the beasties are one of the most annoying mobs I have seen, tons of hit points, fast little buggers as well. I had no where to kite them and they disrupt my casting like no ones business :/

I did 15% of lvl 70 last night killing these.

Ages to grind. Probably around 12 hours. I'm tailor, so I made sure to kill the other mobs as well, as they drop Netherweave at a reasonable rate. I'm a mage, but I imagine these tips will help anyone to grind here.

Make sure to display NPC names always.

The little annoying runts change from hostile to neutral in a very predictable way. When they run up to a purple "candle" (a purple beam will pop up between the runt and the stick), they'll grow in size and turn hostile. So watch for the areas where these candles stand. Furthermore, their patrol pattern is fairly predictable (can you tell I spent hours there?), so you can basicly avoid them all the time, as they drop fairly bad things. While I did get jumped once or twice (or maybe ten times), it's much easier and quicker grinding when you can skip these mobs (since they move so fast, they're annoying for mages, and they have fairly high HP).

Found after probably like 3.5 hours. Killing the Raiders also is a good plan as some of their spawns definitely can respawn as a Spell-Theif.

In general having most of the formulas BoP is a mixed blessing. They don't all get farmed by just everybody... but they also don't appear on the AH at all, whatever the price.

Not too bad, it dropped after 98 kills.

Get an addon that tracks how many times you've killed some type of mob. I use SW Stats. It helps keep you sane because you can do the math figure out how many you need to kill before you have like a 95% chance to have gotten it. Then you just farm and chances are it will drop long before that number have been killed. And since you have the counter it sort of gives you a sense of progress rather than just feeling like it's pointless and forever.

So if drop rate for something = 0.7 % then 200 kills is a net 75% and 400 is 95%.

Was planning on a long campaign grind for this one. Even got out a pad of paper to track the kills and to keep me sane. But then it went and dropped on my 5th mob. Very lucky. (at 355 enchanting)

I found it much easier to use the flying mount to land in the spikey rocks and attack the spell-theif from there. He will find a path up so you can loot, and will usually bring along another humanoid mob, but the little beasties stay home; so I found it much more manageable.

Also of note: I could not seem to find a way to attack him from on top of the tents, perhaps due to the angle of attack being almost straight down. Stick to ranged attack from the rocks FTW.

Wow, I got really luck on this one. 15 seconds before restart it finally droped. I have a theory that I will be checking on these BoP formulas, I farmed these guys hardcore before I was 350 enchanting. My theory is, MAYBE, the drop rate improves once you have the required skill. I killed about 200, then I went and skilled up and hit 350, soon as I got back it droped on the 22nd kill. I could have just got lucky, but I will be testing this theory with the other BoP in blades edge.

Very low drop rate. I had to kill 280 before i got it. I found it best to stand where the Prince was so that way you were close to four of the spawns. These mobs have a very good drop rate of netherweave also, so if your a tailor/enchanter it's all good.

Got it today after 3 days of farming and 301 kills (im a protection warrior).
If are 70 is easy to farm this place cos u can fly behind every mob without aggro all the rest. For what i experienced i suggest this: watching the screenshot posted keep clear te area with circles, especially the circle on the right. A patrol will randomly spawn near another spell-thief, so u have 6 mobs instead of 5!

Just got mine on my 140'th kill.

I killed 75 lvl 68's and 65 lvl 67's and it dropped off a lvl 68. I don't know if this is a coincedence but when farming sunfury signets i killed 1,400 lvl 68 eradicators and 1,200 lvl 67's. I recieved 5 blues from the 68's and 2 recipies and only recieved green gear from the 67's.

I have a theory that it's the even numbered mobs that drop the good stuff.

Well I finally got this enchant a few days ago. I went non-stop on it for about two days, netting well over 400 kills in the two days and finally got it to drop.

You will quickly discover the static spawn locations, so just cover those and I would recommend killing the pats out in front of the camp by the road as they sometimes pop the spell-thiefs also. It was actually one of these that I got my enchant off of.

Exactly as the image given here ( http://www.wowhead.com/?screenshot=view&3.22555#17569 ), the spell-thieves spawn. Although I must add that one extra patrol exists occasionally just south of the right-side patrol indicated in the picture, right before the "gate" into the Razaani landing.

I got mine after 117 kills. They are pretty fast to farm, as all locations can have a spell-thief at the same time.

As a mage, it was quite easy to down them very quickly as long as you keep the surrounding areas clear. It is best to clear the areas between their spawn times, as usually following the kill of all the different locations there is a pause between their respawn.
Nothing, except for the patrol locations, seem to share the spawn spot with anything else. No need to "clear" the spawn spots in that sense, but it makes things easier for you once a spell-thief spawns.

The drop-rate % is a tad under 1% as stated, and it occured to at almost that exact rate.

It might take a while to get this recipe, but it is worth it in the end. Farmed them for myself and got lucky, if you can call 37 thieves lucky. Then helped a friend and it took about 100 of them.

Right now the enchant does not have any glow connected to it.

I starting grinding for this as soon as I hit 350 enchanting... in mid- to late-February. I FINALLY got it mid-April. I probably spent a total of eight or ten hours grinding these guys.

For patch 2.1, this will drop off level 70-71 mobs. This will make the grind a bit harder, although it'll be interesting to see what the new drop rate will be.

The drop rate for this enchant has been increased in the latest patch. I don't know by how much, but I farmed mine up solo in the new location after about 20 minutes.

I spent somewhere around 14 hours farming it the original location with friends prior to the patch with no luck.

I am not convinced that the Raazani actually drops this.

I spent several days killing a few hundred with no luck.

I switched to the other location and killed about 10 Bash'ir to get it.

I definately believe the Bash'ir have a much higher drop rate.

25 kills on the Bash'ir thieves. Much better than the last time I took a stab at farming the formula. They're also a lot easier to cherry-pick. Only had to kill an extra 2-3 mobs on each circuit around the 8-10 spawns.

Anecdotally, I'd say the drop rate is a lot better. I found a Depleted Badge that I sold for 2500g too, though, so I think I was just lucky :P

Took me 161 kills to get it, as the others have said before, drops from Bash'ir Spell-Thieves in BEM
About 0,6% dropchance based on my experience :D
But it do not take that long, most of them can be pulled without clearing around them, just fly around circling the inner area, do not bother with the one out in the open. In this circle there is 14 Spell-Thieves, all either lvl 70 or 71.
As a frostmage (0/0/61) with over 1000 spelldamage I could kill all 14 in the circle, and have a short break to reconjure water every time I came to my start point, before respawns.

In total it took me 2-3 hours to get it, not that bad.

Took me about 50 kills. I just kept to the middle of the place (there's a huge rock) and walked around it picking off the spell-thieves with mind blast as shadow priest. Worked well for me.

A couple seconds into the fight they'll put up a 20% magic damage reduction buff, but it's not a huge problem. They have low health (below 6000) and basically never use their magic pool, so they're easy kills for their level.

They also drop Apexis Shards and I guess it was just luck, but I got three random greens from them while I was there apart from the formula.

And i understand that unreal, but i haven't fly mount for farm "Bash'ir Spell-Thief". Heh i forgott this way and go to do quest (for money), and now i try do quest Prisoner of the Bladespire. And i die... and i be resurect on Crystal Spine. Kek i kill 5 "Bash'ir Spell-Thief" and recipe drop to me.

I farmed the Razaani guys for 3 hours and didn't get a drop. I decided to switch over to the Bash'ir guys since alot of people here said they got their drops from em. So I flew over and started farming and got the drop in an hour. It was nicer farming the Bash'ir guys due to them respawning by the time you make a full circle. You can pull one at a time with no fear of pulling extras.

I definitely recommend farming the Bash'ir guys over the Razaani.

Something to note, when you get this enchant on your weapon it only says +40 Spell Damage, I was concerned about this and thought I was given the wrong enchant, but it does in fact give the +40 to healing as well.

I know it's random, but recap says I killed 262 Razaani Spell-Thief over about 3-4 days. I gave up, went to try the Bash'ir Spell-Thief and it dropped 2nd kill.

How to do get this formula pre-70 without a flying mount:

To get there: Ride north up the road in BEM that leads to Netherstorm, and when it veers east toward the bridge into Netherstorm, continue going north to edge of the world. Climb through the blades there on the eastern end of the Crystal Spire area until you get the msg 'Discovered Crystal Spire'. Then suicide or fall off the ledge into space, die, and you'll rez at the Crystal Spire gy. Spirit rez, wait 10min for the rez sickness to wear off, then make your way from the gy west, along the southern border of the ravine, until you get to the Bash'ir camp at the western end.

I did this on my 67 lock to both grind levels there and farm the Major Spellpower recipe, got it after about 2hrs farming it.

What to bring: Lots of buffs, and lots of hit rating gear, since the mobs in this area are 70-72: lots of scroll, pot, elixer, weapon oil, cooked food, etc. buffs. Lots of bandages and stacks of Netherweave to make more, and lots of high lvl vendor food since you'll have a lot of downtime b/t pulls (if you do this at 67, at least). I had +70 hit rating, +600 spell dmg (with buffs), ~8000hp, and had to limit myself to the 70-71 mobs, could barely survive a lvl 72 one. Also, collect Apexis Shards from your kills (most mobs here can drop them, including the Bash'ir), and every 10, go to the Bash'ir Crystalforge just outside the main camp (north side of valley) at 54.4,10.8 and make Unstable Flask of the Sorcerer: http://wowhead.com/?item=32601

Confirmed, the Forumla just dropped for me off of a Bash'ir Spell-Thief. You can fly around on your flying mount at Bash'ir Landing, (51,14) in Blade's Edge Mountains and land in safe spots to range pull the Bash'ir Spell-Thiefs to you. It took me about 150 kills to get it, good luck farming.

i wanted to kill myself while grinding for this...

300 mobs + it took.. during that time i found about 30g in vender trash, 24g in loot, three on lunaracy (all thought about 200gs worth of crap) and still no drop.. so as i start to leave i kill the last mob to get out of combat and teleport.. low and behold.. it drops the forumlar >.<

anyway... i found the easiest way to see which mobs are the spell-theif's is by the fact they carry a sword rather than an axe, kinda handy/easy to spot from the air.. hope it helps you.. and good luck ^^

Took me some 3 hours of grinding split in 2 days, about 300+ kills...horrible...these statistics are...well, statistics...0.7% (corrected probably to 2-3% cause only enchanters see that) can also mean 20 out of 1000, or 200 out of 10.000 kills, which mean you could theoretically end up killing 9800 mobs then have it drop 200 times in a row...but that's statistics...

I believe the drop rate is higher than what WoWhead says. It took me and another mage around 20 minutes to get two, and a guildie who grinded it also told me it only took him 20 minutes. I think it shows such a low rate as it doesn't drop for non-enchanters :) I'm guessing this was between 30-40 kills as we just AOE pulled most of the area.

I can confirm this dropped today after about 8 Bash'ir Spell-Thief kills. There is an area where there are 5 spell thief spawns in the southernmost "doorway" if you are heading west. Cleared that area twice before it dropped. Took about 15 minutes.

Took over 2 hours and exactly 134 Spell-Thief kills before it finally dropped.

I don't know why Enchanting recipie rareness is held to a higher standard than anything else - green recipies are as rare as other blues, and blue recipies are as rare as BoE epics. I cleared Karazhan every week for 9 months and only ever saw one enchanting recipie (Soulfrost) drop, and nothing else.

The reason the rate drop is so low, is because this is a BoP formula, therefore only enchanter are able to see the drop.

If a person with the wowhead looter doesnt have enchanter as a profession, he will not see it, and the wowhead will regist his kills for the rate.

We cant be sure on the % of the drop of this formula, it took me about an hour, but with the formula for +30 intelect it was very quick to drop. i would say 5% but we cant be sure.

The rate on all BoP one tip of mob drop formulas is higher than was is stated on wowhead. heres some of them:

I just wanted to say that I too believe that things have changed as far as how often this recipe drops. I killed probably ten Spell- Thiefs last night and then today I logged in and killed only 3 and got it!!! I was sooo excited I screamed. I started killing around 54 15 and approached the Spell Thiefs in that area pulling one at a time. I am a 70 warlock and my name is Chelm on Hellscream... Thanks and good luck....

Drop rate is higher than listed on the site.
This is because Wowhead takes into account kills of the mobs by people who can't see the plan.
Will drop for enchanters of any level
Killing the Arcanists and Raiders will not cause Spellthieves to spawn in their spots

Gave up after 3 and a half hours, 400 kills. I'll try again another time when they aren't being so stingy. Oddly enough I ended up with a boatload of prison keys - 15 during my run. Also 8 greens, 15 stacks of netherweave cloth and a half dozen greys. Now if they could drop the damn recipe I'd be happy.

Competition isn't bad in this area now. Since most people are exalted with Shattered Sun, only die hard daily quest runners or alts are running this area now. I was here on friday night and only ran into 6 people the entire time, and they were all doing the daily so they 'phased' after a few kills'.

It should be noted that these spell-thief mobs have FIXED spawn points. They will always spawn at the same spots, which is good and bad. Good in that you know where they will be, and bad in that it means there are a fixed number of mobs that can be up at any one time. So feel free to skip other mobs, as it won't affect how many spawn. I counted 14-15 in total across the area in question.

Lucky for me I guess, I was on my usual daily trip, and the formula dropped for me, a pleasant surprise. It was only the third or fourth time i had done the "Maintaining the Portals" daily, so i couldnt have killed to many of the things before that.

Just do your daily's and good things will come, i have gotten a couple blue Jewel Crafters formulas that sold for about 180g ea off the Island daily's.

This is prolly a good spot to farm for other items than the pattern. But if you´re an enchanter you could farm for the pattern aswell for Ethereum prison keys and motes of mana at the same time! So imo its a good spot!

you have to realize wowhead takes in kills and droprates from non-enchanters that cant see this drop on the loot table, making the droprate seem higher.

I agree...Waaaay to easy to get. Helped a friend kill quick (being mage) him being healer...took 20 minutes for his recipe. Farmed this morning me and a friend both being chanters. Took 45 minutes for first to drop followed 5 mintues later by the 2nd recipe. Too easy (even on pvp server) to farm. Easy popular recipe, a bunch of greens (epic helping my priest friend), Primal manas....Now if only they were all this easy/rewarding to farm? :P

BTW, Im not a chanter on mage and worked fine helping a friend get his. Bring a bored friend and tear through the place :D

Thanks a lot for the tip to get there without a flying mount! I went to the edge and took a dive with my lvl 66 warrior, after dying I went back to corpse instead for lesser gear damage and to skip waiting out the dying sickness. Then mounted and rushed for western part. Perfect spot to farm from is just in the beginning of the camp at the edge to the north. I just cleared some boars in front of camp first (raised my skinning to 435) and then had really easy pulls with at least 5 spellthiefs lined up, took them one by one and already after 11 kills the recipe dropped!

Easiest drop recipe I ever got! But then I wanted to take my skinning all the way to 450 and for some reason I stopped gettin skillpoints after 435? Anyone knows why? The boars are 70-71 so at least four levels above me and I got skillpoint every second try before up to 435?

Actually you don't even need to suicide yourself and/or wait for rez sickness to wear off. Simply use a "slow fall" effect to jump from the top of one of the blades at the "discovery location" mentioned above. Just use your slow fall, mount up and jump in "The Crystalspine".

Well, today i found out about this chant and saw that i didnt have it, found where it dropped in Blades edge, went and kill about 30-40 guys, arcanist's and spell thief's, and it dropped off a arcanist, was only there about 10 mins before it dropped, these drop rates have improved a lot. I'll note that these forms of BoP Forumua's and others like Engineering schmatics: Field Repair Bot 110G all seem to have VASTLY increased drop rates as when they were considered "end game" enchants or must-haves.

I spent 4 months of farming before I finally got this, 2 months before Wrath came out. 4 hours every single day with both a warlock and a paladin alts, and it took 4 months to get them both the enchant. I went back with a lvl 75, and got it in 15 minutes.

It might be RNG hates me, but drop rates have seemingly gone up a vast amount making old grinds alot easier.

I'm not the lucky type. I needed this enchant on my mage and there weren't any avaliable on ah so i decided to farm the receipe with my enchanter. I had to pay 30g to get port from dal-sw to get to blasted lands portal. My pc has been having problems and my map was flashing and i couldn't see the coordinates to get to where I needed to go. I almost got so frustrated i almost hearthed back to argent grounds. I said to myself okay who cares anyway 1 hour at 1% drop i wont get it but I'll make a few coin on loot anyway.

I finally seen the thief in sight, lowered down and dropped him..result...Enchant Weapon - Major Spellpower dropped 1st try. I been playing this game for 2 years and have farmed for low percentage drops before with really bad luck. Sorry for this being long but man this made my day.

I'm sure this was in the patch notes somewhere and I missed it, but they appear to have dramatically upped the droprate for outland enchanting patterns. While sitting in LFR queue, I noticed that I was missing a bunch of older recipes from this toon I'd leveled in Wrath. In under 20 kills TOTAL (not even of each NPC), I got:

Update commentary for 9 Feb 2019:

After working up an Enchanter to Outland Level, and finding that I had only Green level enchantments available at level 60 Enchanting, I went looking for information on what pattern(s) I could find/learn for better skill-up chances. After reading through all the entries concerning (Formula: Enchant Weapon - Major Spellpower), it appeared that the chances of acquiring it were quite high from the Bash'ir Spell-Thief. So I toddled over to the Blade's Edge Mountains, found the Bash'ir Landing area, and being a quite squishy Mage and alone, made a very cautious approach to the camp. Circling around the outskirts while avoiding the local wildlife, I located several Bash'ir Spell-Thieves and was able to take down 3 of them in short order, along with an Unbound Ethereal. No drop. Not unexpected, RNG being involved even with all of the back-slapping "First kill!' proclamations in the comments section. To avoid being boxed-in by mobs while trying for the next-closest Spell-Thief, I attacked a nearby Bash'ir Arcanist, clearing some room to maneuver - and the pattern dropped. I was a bit nonplussed, having realistically expected more of a grind, but I picked up my pattern and went home. I'm thinking both Spell-Thieves and Arcanists have a Very high chance to drop this pattern, so in theory Nuking the entire camp should get you this pattern in one pass.

Took my lvl 79 mage. Managed to snag it from the VERY FIRST mob I killed, a Bash'ir Spell-Thief. I think I got lucky, but yeah, based on that I would say the drop rate is higher than what's reported here.

I got the recipe on first drop, I suspect the drop rate has greatly increased. To test, I went there on 5 different toons, 4 out of the 5 got it on first drop, the 5th took 5 kills.

I suspect the drop rate has been drastically reduced in the Shadowlands prepatch. I've always farmed this formula on my enchanters and the longest it's ever taken was 22 kills of the "Simon Units." I've killed about 200 of them in the past two days and no drop.

EDIT: I killed over 1000 Simon Units with no drop. I decided to try Bash'ir Landing. I had killed something over 40 Bash'ir Arcanist and Bash'ir Spell-Thief mobs when it dropped from a Spell-Thief.

I think I managed to run through the entire area about 12 times before I saw it drop off a Bash'ir Arcanist on my level 20 druid. Hopefully you have better luck than I did 🥴

edit: I was trained in enchanting, but not outlands enchanting. I trained outlands enchanting and it dropped maybe 5 minutes after I returned to the slaughter. I'm not certain this had an affect only based on that I've had other recipes drop without being trained in them, but I'm convinced it did because I was there for so long before training outlands enchanting without it dropping.

This item is NOT a low drop chance, it will only drop if you have enchanting and have not learned it yet. I assume you also need the BC enchanting skill required to learn it. I found a group of 5 Arcanists while ridding out to the landing, killed them all and looted TWO off the group of them. The recp is BoP so had to vendor the 2nd. This tells me the low drop % listed here is because of all the people that do NOT have the ability to see it in the loot table at all but farm them for shards are greatly skewing the %.

TL;DR If you already learned it I doubt you can loot it again and if you don't have 50 outland enchanting you can't get it to drop, thus the low drop %. Actual drop % is probably around 20% or so.

This enchant, best for 20 casters at the moment, was over 25k gold on auction house and greatly inflated based on the cost of materials. Took my level 60 enchanter to blade's edge and had the recipe within 10 kills. The moral of the story is don't price gouge for enchants from formulas that still drop.

If you want this enchant on a trial account for whatever reason, go to Burning Edge and agro a few guards in north Blades Edge Mountains and near /way 61.5 19.2. Accept rez in The Crystal Spine on other side of the mountain you cant get without flying. Run to the south west and farm Bash'ir anything. Got mine on the fifth mob. You must have at lest 50 Outland Enchanting though.
