The reputation you get was buffed in 2.0.1. It is now:

10x Dark Iron Ore for 75 reputation points.
2x Core Leather for 350 points.
1x Fiery Core for 500 points.
1x Lava Core for 500 points.
1x Blood of the Mountain for 500 points.

Core Leather is probably the easiest rep grind for the Brotherhood if you are a skinner. These hounds, actually all MC mobs, are solo-able on an epic 80, two leather is 350 (385) rep. Make sure that if you're grinding these that you do NOT kill Magmadar as this will stop the respawns and be locked in the ID, which means that they won't be back when you re-enter. I learned that the hard way in this week's saved cycle (did a fun raid for Ragnaros and now they're gone).

Of course, if you want to farm the cores, make sure you kill Molten Destroyers as they have the chance to drop all three 500 rep cores (not at once but increasing the chance for one). But those are still luck based, the leathers are guaranteed.

It appears the rep granted from turning this in for Thorium Brotherhood has gone up with Cata. I seem to recall it giving 350 rep and now it gives 1400 rep each turn in.

Just had one of these drop off of the Core Hounds in Firelands.

I skinned one of the new Firelands trash mobs, specifically an Ancient Core Hound, and had this drop along with 3 pieces of Savage Leather (Presumably usually drops one piece, the extra two may or may not be from the Bountiful Bags proc).

While being a very appropriate drop, as the Firelands is basically Molten Core 2, Core Leather at level 85 and 525 leatherworking is pretty much useless. It is still only used for level 60 LWing pattens and is not needed for the new ilvl 378 patterns.

Getting this while skinning is like getting weeds while fishing--vendor it or sell it on the AH, because chances are you will never be using it unless its for an alt or twink's gear.

Mildly disappointed that this item is useless. It is a nice little tie in though for those that know what it was for back in the day.

Skinned 16 Core Leather in solo run through Molten Core.

I recently took a fresh level 100 in MC and FL to farm some Core Leather and it would just not loot anything and say "Target is Tapped." Tried a bunch of stuff to fix it, but I think what finally did it was training "Outland Skinning" specifically.
