I'm 99% certain these are bugged. I have 2 equipped on 2 different followers, I have ran 18 missions so far, and have gotten exactly 0 ink. Even if we assume they have been nerfed when they made them BoE, it still seems very unlikely, especially considering the other follower equpiment gear that seems to have about 15-20% success rate.

Mechanics:

- You can equip multiple different equipment items
- Some champions can equip 2
- Works on mobile completion (items will be added to existing stacks in your inventory)
- Chance to procc is rather low. Reports ranging from ~5-20 Missions.
- It's possible to get double procs if you have multiple equipment items proof source
- Depending on your server it might take 4-5 months for the items to pay off if you buy them (20-50k). If you craft yourself it's only invested time for farming.

Long term Benefits & Calculations

I see lots of people commenting how these items are lackluster after using them on ~10 missions and not get a proc. This is about thinking long term and for players who will play the long game, as in play for the next two years straight. Serious raiders for example or someone who logs in every day. These items provide a long term benefit, thus they don't give a big immediate bonus. In game design it's usually a trade off for rewards:

Instant gratification and one time big bonus.
Or delayed gratification with a cumulative big payout.

People commenting on how bad it is only see the short term use. Using this on thousands of Missions over a long span of time, will bring you a net profit. You have to decide for yourself if this mechanic is worth wile for you.

Example calculation:
1 year = 365 days
Each day you send 3 missions = 1095 per year
Assuming you send 3 champions with 1 equipment each = 3285 rolls
From what it looks like the proc chance is about 5% we get varying reports, but it's rather low.
If 5% you get 164 returns with items per year.

The Rivelatore d'Azerite Improvvisato has higher proc chance.You get something every 2-3 missions, but only 25 AP reward. This one has no gold reward. But this is worth it for serious high level raiders who compete to get Spot 1-50 on mythic kills where every small % gain counts. It is what separates the high level guilds from an average heroic guild in base stats.

On September 11th 2018
Average return for Fishing proc is about ~1200 gold on my server. That's 200k gold over a year assuming the prices stay somewhat the same.
Average return for Enchanting proc is about ~4400 gold on my server. That's 700k gold over a year assuming the prices stay somewhat the same.

Even if price mats would drop by half or the proc chance is even lower. You would still get your moneys worth out if you bought them at release for 50k after a year's worth of missions. Expansions usually last for ~2 years. If you plan to play only for a few months or don't send out missions too often, then these are not for you. If you plan to play for a long time and can reap the long time benefits, more than worth it. I also saw some discussions how these items are not worth to you and thus need to be buffed. The game is designed for multiple people. Some enjoy pvp some enjoy dungeos and raids some enjoy achievement hunting, some just roam the world and look for secrets. Everyone gets different rewards. If a mechanic or reward is not worth it for you, simply go for one you like :)

These are lowball numbers. I send about 4-6 missions per day (with more recruit troops perk)

Chalk me up to the "These items are a waste of time and resources" camp. Despite dasbaum's well put post above, it's still really a hard sell. The base materials used to make these items can, potentially, be recouped after a couple drops (when you, eventually, get one). Where the mechanic really falters and becomes a net negative is the tertiary mats needed. It can cost the equivalent of thousands of gold in dropped/crafted items to get the Expulsoms needed to make one item (vs the gold price from vending). Then there is the Hydrocore material, which has a chance to drop of the final boss in a heroic dungeon, and a 100% drop from final boss in mythic. Both Expulsom and Hydrocore are BoP so if you have crafting alts, you better be prepared to run them extensively through dungeons in order to be able to make the various pieces. These follower items have a bit of potential, but the execution leaves much to be desired. Something that can take upwards of half the expansion life cycle to profit from can hardly be called "worth it". Tbh, I prefer the follower pieces as they were done in Legion. I'd much rather have a piece of equipment that buffs mission success chance than something that has a small chance of returning mats that can, often, be farmed while doing daily emissary world quests.

Absolutely worthless item because a stack (200) of ultramarine ink costs like 45 gold lol.

I've had one of these equipped on a follower for 6 weeks now and have not received a single ink, despite running missions constantly. This item is unfathomably bad.
