you need to have 315 skinning in order to skin onyxia, finkles skinner and the zulian slicer both offer +10 to skinning and there is a +5 skinning glove enchant. she has always dropped betweeen 1-3 scales every time we skinned her.

Yes, she needs 315 skinning to be skinned. Pre-BC, this was a problem. With BC, no problem!

These seem so useless now, why are people still buying them from the AH?

To clarify, useless as in there's no updated/new LW recipes that use these. Just 2 outdated ones.

More then likely the will have patterns that will come out... you can't get them anymore from the lvl60 raid so they are a viable lvl80 item.

I'll just stock pile mine for the new recipes to come!

Ok so, did anyone actually see the droprate on wowhead gives us a percentage of 101% ?
Just curious as to how that could've ended up there. Did wowhead not implement a max of 100% ^^

I've been running Onyxia's Lair for some time, trying to get the mount drop. As of the patch 8.0, I am no longer able to skin her. I have a thread in the bug forums and I've gotten a lot of suggestions as to why this is happening, but no one else has confirmed whether they are unable to skin. If this is a global problem, then this cloak will no longer be available.

Update - with a patch a couple weeks back, everything is skinning again.

Currently unobtainable in game, it's been removed. That's why you can't skin her, or learn the recipe anymore Source:

Does anyone know if with all the changes to professions (IE can skin anything at anytime) if level of skinning still affects the scales?

I just tried it and was able to skin her but got 0 scales.

FYI: I was able to skin these with a BRAND NEW SKINNER... BUT! ONLY when I had an actual KNIFE equipped in the proff tool slot!
When I tried w/o knife I DID NOT get scales..

I have 300 Scuoiatura, 75 Scuoiatura di Nordania. I also have +18 due to a combination of specialization points in 100 Scuoiatura delle Isole dei Draghi as well as Cappello dello Scuoiatore Esperto, Zaino Rinforzato, and Coltello da Scuoiatura di Draconium. I obtained 3x Scaglie di Onyxia from skinning today.
