These bonus experience gems seem pretty neat, and I really do hope we see more interesting types of customization options in the future. I really miss all of the different types of choices we used to have to enhance our characters. Currently, only being able to choose between Crit, Haste, Mastery, and Versatility isn't really all that exciting. While it is great to have the ability to customize your stats with these enhancements, it would be really cool if we were offered more options to enhance our characters in more interesting ways.

Edit: This gem has been changed in a recent patch to now provide a swim-speed increase instead of an experience bonus.

Is anyone aware of what is needed to craft these? Is just basic Jewelcrafting in BFA going to be enough to get one?

EDIT: This jewel used to give a +EXP bonus (Hence the joke) and explicitly required an Ilevel 100 Item.

By the way, please note the Requires Ilevel 100 bit. Allow me to save you some investigation.

This translates to you requiring level 75 to benefit from this, as that's when items of Ilevel 100 higher with gem sockets show up - Specifically, Collana del Sole Insanguinato . There is also the option of finding an Ilevel 100 belt and shoving an Fibbia Eterna on there to give it a socket.

However, certain Profession-exclusive items give you some better options. If you're an engineer, you can craft Visori di Titanio Corazzati - or any other goggles of that tier - and socket the gem into that, giving you access to this +5% bonus at level 72 instead. This is, of course, assuming that you don't have any head heirlooms and you want to do this on the cheap. Jewelcrafters have it better though - They can make Statuetta - Gufo di Zaffiro, and while this and the other JC trinkets of that level are level 75, heirloom trinkets do not give exp, so this is, for want of a better term, BIS in terms of exp boosting.

My take on this would be to craft only one of, either a Golden Beryl Ring, Kubiline Ring, Kyanite Ring, or, Solstone Ring with my Jewelcrafter & send to my 111 alts (who're ready to level) & pop one of these gems in the socket to help gain XP from level 111 to 120 in BfA questing zones. (I say 111 alts & not 110, as the JC crafted rings can only be equipped at 111)

:Edit: So I've been downvoted without the courtesy of a reply to expain why? At least give your opinion when downvoting, so I (& other Wowhead users) can maybe see another angle on these things & not just downvote for the sake of it.

:Edit 2: - I've leveled my Priest to it's current level 115 where I've just received a ring from a quest that exceeds the item level of the one my JC crafted & socketed one these baby's in. Of course there are 2 ring slots so this is still useful to me even at 115+. I'll probably keep it equipped all the way to 120 for the Xp boost & save any higher ilvl quest rewards to replace the other slot up to then & save the next best (to replace my JC crafted ring with XP gem in it) to equip when I ding 120.

Worth a punt if u have a JC main/alt to craft these IMHO. Probably wouldn't go out of my way to pay silly AH price though if I didn't have a JC who can already craft them.

Was the item level changed on the Rubellite Natante in the 8.1 patch? Most posts I have read said item level 100, including several posts here, but the tooltip on it, here on Wowhead and in-game, says "Requires item level 200". I didn't see anything in the patch notes or hotfixes.

If you have Anello del Temibile Pirata, this gem will be basically useless once you can use heirlooms, unless you manage to get a socketed piece to drop for waist/hands/wrists/ feet (that's easier for characters that played through pre 8.0 event or Legion) or buy a crafted Legion legendary (except for cloth - shoulders slot is covered heirloom).

Technically doesn't work in garrosh heirloom weapons until level 111 when the weapon has an ilvl > 200. If you socket it into a garrosh heirloom on a 120 then mail it to a 110, the gem will be grayed out/inactive.

Unless you are lucky enough to have picked up one of the 8 heirloom weapons or the heirloom shield from Siege of Orgrimmar (no longer obtainable).
There are currently 53 items useable at level 119 and lower that can hold this gem.

The only easly accsesible of theese are 4 rings crafted by Jewelcrafters, the rest are rare Legion Legendaies.

If you have both Heirloom rings and all the normal Heirlooms there are only 4 items that will allow you to get that extra 5% Experience boost:
