I assume the chance for the mount to get disoriented will be minimal on first application, but large (>50%) for the 5th stack. Might need a longer uptime to be worth applying more than 2-3 stacks.

For one reason or another this item can be used on flight path mounts. It can also disorient the flight path mount which results you dropping on the ground without taking any damage. The flight resumes after the disorient ends.

Another example of potentially cool engineering item, that instead turns out to be disappointing.
As the item states, it doesn't stack with other mount movement speed buffs. This sound fair, however when you consider that most people have at least +10% already from guild perk then a further +10% from the eventual pathfinder (not even counting class mounted movement speed increases), it takes at least 3 uses of this item to actually gain a benefit. Despite the wording on the description, the chance to get disoriented is actually increased per stack of the buff, not after 5. This means that you have chance to disorient yourself even before getting the benefit from the item due to the previously mentioned buffs. Finally, due to how the buff of the item works, trying to maintain 5 stacks so you get a consistent speed buff by using the item once every 10 seconds will not work as refreshing the buff at 5 stacks is as an almost 100% chance to disorientate you.

This item needs changes in several ways for it to actually be useful:
1. Have the buff stack on top of existing mount movement speed buffs, but only up to +50% as intended. (Meaning with an existing +20% speed buff, it only requires three uses.)
2. Have the movement speed buff drop off in stacks as opposed to dropping off entirely.
3.For the love of god, remove the chance to become disorientated on anything but 4 or 5 stacks.

I seriously hope Blizzard changes this item, as it's one of the few actually useful engineering gadgets this expansion.

TLDR: I recommend slowly stacking the buff to 4 and then letting it fade and starting over. This will minimise the number of backfires.

I wanted to know what how often this item actually fails so I tracked my uses of it and found some interesting information. In my testing I used the item twice immediately (the first stack is useless since it doesn't stack with the guild, mounted speed buff) then only used the item again to refresh the buff (at about 1-2s left). Here is the raw data:

As you can see the chance of failure jumps way up if you already have 4 stacks applied (ie. if you try to apply the 5th stack). However, as is noted the chance seems to increase if the item is spammed. I don't have any backfire data on spamming the item simply because that isn't the way I plan on using it.

Also interesting, based on my calculations even just using the item to continuously refresh the buff will get you to your destination faster on average even with the backfires. Obviously, avoiding the backfires will increase the benefits of the item even further.

As mentioned in the TLDR the best way to use it in my opinion is to start with 2 stacks (unless you aren't in a guild) then refresh the buff up to 4 and repeat, this will minimise the number of times that it backfires.

I haven't used any addons to test out the speed increase on flying mounts (if there's any way to do that anyway), but based on some visual testing I did myself with about 20 charges of this item (used in stacks of 4), I do not think it increases flying mount speed but ground speed only.

Save 1 charge on each of the stacks you make and put them in bank. When you get "Work Oder: Electroshock Mount Motivator" world quest you can turn those in instead of wasting 245 charges.(##RESPBREAK##)908##DELIM##FunkyJam##DELIM##Don't use formatting to highlight the entire comment. Thanks.

When used on flying mounts, you gain the buff, but it does not increase flight speed, only speed on the ground. But when in flight, you can get disoriented. (It looks kind of funny, actually...)

You can typically get to 3 stacks of use without failure if you slightly space out the usage by a few seconds.

If you're careful not to spam this (especially when it's on GCD) I've found a high rate of success to 4 (and sometimes 5) stacks by waiting until the buff duration hits 0 (but not depleting completely) before using again.
