I received one of these from a rare that spawned under the Sentinax. It spawned 1 elite and 2 non-elite mobs upon use and dropped a lootable crystal that yielded 200 Nethershards.

It summoned a Doombringer, Vile Mother, and a couple of imps.

Reward was a Nethershard cluster containing 200 Nethershards. The cluster is a glowing purple crystal on the ground, easy to spot!

I got "Attack Beacon: Starsong Refuge" today from a Sentinax rare (Lady Venom or something like that). I'm posting this here because I assume they all work roughly the same way.

It had a 15 minute duration, so I immediately flew to Starsong Refuge and linked the item in general chat. Said I was using it in 5 minutes, got a ton of interest and formed a full raid.

Upon use one imp-mother spawned (there might've been another small mob or two, couldn't tell in the crowd). She died in seconds and dropped gray loot. After looting, I noticed the body still sparkling, and I actually interacted with the body and got 200 nethershards. I don't believe anyone else got any significant loot, or the shards.

Short version - it looks like this is meant to be solo'd?

Well. I just used one of these. I gathered a whole team, thinking it would be a challenge. No tanks, just 5 melee. 3 of the melee didnt even get a chance to hit them, and only i got to loot the 200 shards. This can be solo'd, i would say! :D

My guess is that the zone invasions are not on yet, that's why this is nothing but disappointment right now.

We had three mobs (two spiders and one eye) and that was all, i collected about one grey sh!t.

This item can be looted from Sentinax Rares. The other attack beacons are:

All beacons have a 15 minutes duration, which means you need to get to the area and use them within 15 minutes. They spawn a couple of mobs (~3 for most of them) and can be soloed. They drop 300 Nethershards for the person that used the beacon.

If you get this item, you have 15 minutes to get to Skyhorn in Highmountain and summon a few demons, one of which would be an elite. From my experience, you can be in a group, but only the person who uses this item initially will be able to loot the 200~300 Nethershards (I got 300 shards twice) that are dropped when the summoned adds die. Note that the Nethershards are looted by clicking on a purple crystal that is dropped on the side of the corpses, not from the corpses themselves. If you can't see the crystal, it may be hidden by the adds' bodies, so just hover over the bodies until you find something that you can click/loot.
The item dropped for me several times from the summoned lieutenants under The Sentinax.
I will update this if I notice anything different.
