According to a post this weapon is based on High Overlord Saurfang's battleaxe and he is part of the questline where he helps Maestro Fabbro Helgar to forge this new appearance.

hey arms warrs, a frost dk here, also desperatly searching for our hidden artifact trigger, just thought I'd mention that in my search I found a bunch of hidden, empty caves around broken isles, most of them in the way northeren part of stormheim (out on the world map/great sea) and also in the outdoors version of Eye of Azshara there's a bunch of empty caves on the south end of the map, might be worth checking out if Saurfang is camping out in one of these? :)

Just received the quest, disappointingly exactly the same as the beta, with talking to Saurfang in Dalaran and then fighting him in the arena.
My first hidden skin, though so I'm pumped.

Every day, there is a chance that speaking to Maestro Fabbro Helgar will offer a dialogue option, "Is there an axe the equal to Strom'kar?", which will end with being offered the quest I segreti delle asce. When this quest is active, it is active region-wide, and everyone will have access to it for that day.

This sends you to speak to Gran Supremo Faucisaure at Krasus' Landing in Dalaran. When done, jump back up to Skyhold and speak again to Master Smith Helgar, who will send you to the Circle of Wills to duel Saurfang.

Once you've defeated Saurfang, go back to Helgar, and after some RP, you'll be able to turn in the quest and receive Spezzalame d'Arcanite.

There are no Artifact Knowledge or reputation requirements to obtain this hidden appearance, and it can be obtained as early as level 100 (presumably, 98 is the minimum level required, my warrior was 100 with no rep or Artifact Knowledge).

Just unlocked this today. I went and got my hidden Prot appearance. When I went to the forge I saw Mast Smith Helgar say in Yellow text " Your Sword is incredible, I wonder if there is and axe to match it. I clicked on him and a couple of chat bubbles later i had the quest. Revered with Valajar, AK 11.

The way to obtain this is relatively simple. Talk to Master Smith Helgar and use the other chat dialogue that he has. He will then give you the quest I segreti delle asce
After this quest is obtained, go down to Dalaran, and talk to Saurfang, go through the chat dialogues with him. The next thing is go back to Helgar, talk to him, he will get Saurfang up to the Arena of Glory, get Saurfang down to 25% HP. Leave the arena back to Helgar, talk to them, and then you turn in quest and have The Arcanite Bladebreaker!

Just got the quest on live.

Proof

I hit AK 12 last night and it was not immediately available, but a guildie was able to get it after he hit AK 12. I then logged and relogged in front of Helgar until a say bubble appeared over his head commenting on my sword. I was then able to access a new dialog option with him, which once clicking on lead to him offering the quest.

The quest requires neither Artifact Knowledge nor to be 110. I am currently on the duel with Saurfang on my lv100 arms Warrior(Saurfang is a lv100 elite).

Not sure if its been mentioned here, but i recently got the green recolour of my Prot artifact shield, and in checking my other two specs it has unlocked the green version of this axe, and the blue verson of the fury ones. Dont know if this is a bug

Just a heads up its a daily roll chance for him to give you the quest and also there is no speech ! On his head just log in and talk to him to see if his speech option changes . This was confirmed via wra server warriors

Currently active on Earthen Ring (US) on the date of this post!
Also a heads up: Saurfang hits HARD. You only need to bring him down to 50% health, but if your gear level is too low the fight can be painful. However, you can switch to Protection spec and still fight him, making the fight super easy.

For lesser-geared players like myself, I'd recommend fighting Saurfang as Prot. I had a hell of a time as Arms, and failed the first time.

Also note that I had to drop the quest and start it over again to re-enter the arena after I died. Doesn't seem to be the case if you're simply knocked out, however.

You do NOT need to have your Arms spec active, nor do you have to choose it as your loot option, in order to see the dialogue option and accept the quest.

To get the Arcanite Bladebreaker skin:

*This first step happens randomly so approach Helgar every time you enter Skyhold for a chance at this*
First Master Smith Helgar must mention to you in passing (with Strom'Kar equipped): "Your sword is incredible. I wonder if there is an axe to match it." (http://imgur.com/VYILHlG)
He'll have a dialogue option which then gives you the quest. (Seen here: http://imgur.com/wMbguKM ; then, http://imgur.com/mLw40eO ; followed by, http://imgur.com/hUFczSL)

Now jump to Dalaran from Skyhold, next to your beacon of light is the glorious "Cleaving Legend" himself High Overlord Saurfang. (http://imgur.com/arP37X3) Speak to him and prompt through his dialogue options. ( Seen here: http://imgur.com/CFIPaVg. then, http://imgur.com/qO8KZuZ)

Return to Master Smith Helgar in the Skyhold and speak to him to further the quest. (http://imgur.com/0cqDqgE)

Now you must face High Overlord Saurfang in the Circle of Glory (http://imgur.com/Ii668fz). He will use shockwave, which serves as a knockback, so it is best to back up toward the guarding rails on the north and south sides of the ring. He uses Intimidating Shout which fears you, he has a slight cast time so popping Berserker Rage as he casts will negate the fear. He also uses Bladestorm, and he will follow you with it if you run away. Surprising not once was I cleaved ;). Once he is brought down to 50% Health he will yield saying "Enough! You have proven your ability. I will grant your request."

Return to Master Smith Helgar, after a short in-game dialogue with High Overlord Saurfang (http://imgur.com/vxAXpz3), he will give you the option to complete the quest and reward you the new skin item. (http://imgur.com/hUFczSL)

You don't actually have to check in on Helgar, there's a spoken prompt that tells you he's going to send you on Secrets of the Axes.

He'll say the following:

Your sword is incredible, I wonder if there is an axe to match it.

It doesn't matter what spec you're in, I was in Protection at the time he said it. All other commentary about being at artifact level 5 and reading the tablet remains extant (do these things).

The quest is up today, February 24th, on US Windrunner.

I logged in close to to Helgar while in protection spec (loot spec current: protection) and had my Burning plate of the worldbreaker equipped. My artificat knowledge is 25 but from other posts I've read that doesn't seem to be relevant.

As soon as you get close to Helgar he has the chat bubble above him saying:
"Your sword is incredible, I wonder if there is an axe to match it."

I fought Saurfang in fury spec ( my main spec ) and didn't have much of a problem as long as I avoided his shockwave, however my gearscore is 869.

Note that after completing the quest and acquiring the skin you have to be in Arms spec to learn it from your bags. You will get an error that you are not in the correct spec if you aren't. Otherwise, every part of acquiring this skin is doable without being in arms spec.

Quest is up today on Zul'jin - US (February 24,2017). I did NOT get a chat bubble above Helgar or anything- I simply went and spoke to him like I do every day "just in case" and there was the option to choose "Is there an axe the equal to Strom'kar?".

You then go to Dalaran and Saurfang is in Krasus' Landing. You talk to him and kiss his butt a bit about being a legend and he agrees to help.

You jump BACK to Skyhold, tell Helgar and then you duel Saurfang in the circle of wills.

Saurfang has abour 33M health and you only need to get him to less than half. Avoid his bladestorm and shockwave and use one of your abilities to break his fear he will do.

You can fight him in any spec you want- I found it slightly easier in Fury with the tiny self heal.

After you beat him- go to Helgar, talk to Saurfang, talk to Helgar and boom....new appearance.

You will need to be in ARMS spec to use it.

Enjoy your axe.

I had been talking to the wrong guy all this time. I talked to Thorim, because he was standing next to all the skins you can collect.

Equipped my arms spec, and walked towards Master Swordsmith Helgar. He says "Your sword is incredible, I wonder if there is an axe to match it" (Bubble over his head, or just text in the chat)

Talk to him, and there will be a 2nd option. (Was 1st on the list of the two options when you talk to him)

The quest will pop up, and you get it from him after.

I was level 110.

Today 2017/11/29 on Stormscale-EU, Master Smith Helgar offered the quest Secrets of the Axes. After I got hidden skin for arms, I tried to check Highmountain for protection skin and when I came to the cave I got emote, clicked macro and got true-false - protection skin were in the pile of gold (at Drogbar statue).

After few months of waiting, finally got both arms and protection skin at the same day. Probably a lucky day.

After waiting 3 weeks, today on the Vek'nilash realm quest is open ! Yesterday I wrote to support - I got the answer:

This isn't a problem with your character, that quest has a chance to appear for the entire server each day.
You just need to keep checking your realm there each day and it will pop up at some point.

Nothing wrong with your character there as your 1 character has no effect over this quest.

I got the quest at 107 (only a few points in the artifact weapon and happened to be in prot spec when I saw the quest). I tried everything I could, in both arms and prot, including some great tips in these comments - but couldn't get pass 75%. I came back at 110, after filling up all points in the Arms weapon and it was easy.

I'm leveling my third warrior right now and picked up the quest. Saurfang seems much more difficult to defeat since 8.0. Granted, I am at level 101 right now but I am curious if it's just me or if this is a balance issue to report to Blizz.
How are others faring against him post-patch?

Strange, I got both Hidden Appearances for Fury and Prot on same day.

Trying to get this appearance, checked everyday for around 7 or so days. Always talked to Helgar. There was NEVER a exclamation mark, even when he gave it to me.

Might be because of it being marked as a low level quest.

Picked it up from Helgar. When I got to the arena part, you have to jump towards the arena, then mid jump, heroic leap down, otherwise you will get pulled back.

Got the appearance, hopefully this helps someone.

This was up on Stormrage-US today, and I can confirm that they lowered the difficulty tremendously considering I was reading some comments saying how difficult Saurfang was. I took barely 2% of his health and he said, "Enough! I will honor your request." or whatever and I received the credit, we fought for about 3 seconds. Pretty disappointed, I was looking forward to a challenging fight but I'm still happy to have the appearance.

Just a small headsup for people who are currently searching their transmog tab after this axe under Two-Handed Axes.

Due to the original artifact weapon is a Two-Handed Sword it is under that tab.

So if you want to transmog it as a Fury Warrior or just wish to transmog it overall as Arms it is available under the '*Two Handed Swords'' tab in your appearance collection.

You don't even have to click on Maestro Fabbro Helgar every day to check to see if he is offering I segreti delle asce that day. When you walk near him, if he is offering the quest, the NPC will actually say:

Your sword is incredible, I wonder if there is an axe to match it.

So if you see that, you know today is the day!

Just commenting to say that, as of 5 Feb 2021, this quest is still spawning, and I was able to pick it up on both of my warriors on the same day.
One of my warriors is on Frostwhisper EU, and the other is on Azjol-Nerub EU.

Quest is up today 4/4/2023 - you do not need to be in Arms spec or have the Arms Artifact Weapon equipped, however, I had the Arms Artifact Weapon in my inventory and was in Arms loot spec (you shuold always be in Arms loot spec anyways, to avoid getting one-handed weapons)

No quest marker, when I walked close to Helgar he said the line and I could talk to him to get the quest
