i was bored one day so i decide to get attuned for onyxia, and i remembered this guy(volchan) kicking my ass when i was level 52, when i was originally questing here, so i killed him out of spite, and these dropped for me. He just walks around dreadmaul rock counterclockwise if you want to kill him, but he might not be up because he is a rare spawn after all, and wont respawn for a few days if someone has already killed him.

The plans themselves are pretty worthless, just maybe a collectors item, seeing as this is the only guy who drops them. The hammer itself looks very plain, so i wouldnt bother making it, cause its expensive, and there are dozens of other weapons that do more damage at the items level.

On a separate note, if the only rare mob that drops this item has been removed from the game, expect prices on these plans to skyrocket in the auction house.

I've killed Volchan about 30 times during the last few weeks without luck.
Then I opened a ticket, asking if the plans still existed in game and if Volchan still drops them.

This was the answer (I hope the translation is ok), the original text is in german below:

The plans are, as far as I know, still in the loottable of the boss. But unfortunately he only drops them very very rarely, which means that you have to have luck to find him and he has to have them on him at that moment.

Die Pläne sind soweit ich weiß immernoch in der Beute bei dem Boss enthalten, aber leider lässt er diese nur sehr sehr selten fallen, das heisst Du musst leider Glück haben ihn zu finden und dann muss er sie auch noch bei haben in dem Moment.

Ich kann Dir dan nur alles Glück wünschen und natürlich eine angenehme Woche.

Kinda understand the frustration; if the drop percentage shown were correct, then there's still around 50% chance not getting the recipe after 50 kills.

Discogator says he got it today;but does this still drop?

Volchan is much lower level now,(and seems much easier)
I killed him only 3 times in the past week(*much harder due to CRZ) and all i got was just green armor loot,just as off any other lvl 50ish rare

I was passing by the area, saw him up, killed him thinking it would just be a normal green, and there was...
However, he also dropped the pattern! Can confirm still drops WoW: Classic TBC. (Week before WotLK Pre-patch)

This dropped today in retail! Possibly returned with the 10.1.7 world drop update, which returned lots of rare and zone drops from before the Cataclysm. Literally just dropped first kill, so not sure what the drop chances are.

sniped this on lightbringer us, didn't realize it was so rare, so i went and sniped another one on proudmoore. it goes for 500k-700k on average as of 09-15-23 at 6:39 AM EST. there are 67 on the US total.

the weapon itself has a decent sell rate of 0.09 and it sells for 20k gold so you can do that math and see if you'd rather sell it for that big gold amount or learn it and sell the weapon and make more gold.

Volchan dropped this for me a few days ago. When I checked my Blacksmithing panel, I couldn't see an entry for Volcanic Hammer under Unlearned section, even though I did not know it already. I learned it, then it appeared under Learned section.
