This is one of the new Enchanting reagents in Legion. It is the rarest enchanting reagent (Legion will continue the 3 tiers of enchanting reagents that we have seen in Warlords of Draenor).

Cristallo del Caos is primarily obtained from disenchanting Epic quality items.

These crystals are used as currency to purchase the best cloaks enchants. The formulas listed below are available from Kharmeera at (Azurewing Repose) in Azsuna. Note that you have to complete the entire Enchanting profession quest chain (requires level 110) before these are available.

I got this from DEing HFC items which is obtained after pre-patch. I even get Sangue di Sargeras! I guess this is a bug.

Edit: LFR HFC is the same!

Chaos Crystals are currently obtained by disenchanting Legion epics.

They will also be used as currency to buy different enchanting recipes like Vincolo dell'Intelletto, Vincolo dell'Agilità and Vincolo della Forza, each costing 1 Cristallo del Caos.

Chaos Crystal ilvl requirement:

After disenchanting dozens of items I feel it is safe to say that the game considers only items of base 850+ as epics that will yield a Chaos Crystal.
Warforged and titanforged items that become 835+ items and higher, will most likely still yield a Leyline Shard. There is always a small chance even from low ilvl items that a chaos shard will drop (confirmed on ilvl815 Cloak of the Everliving Keeper, blue quest reward upgraded to epic quality).

The current main source of Chaos Crystals are mythic dungeons. Every loot there will yield a Chaos Crystal.

7.0.3 Hotfixes - October 3
Enchanting
Crafted items that upgrade to epic quality should now disenchant into Leylight Shards or Chaos Crystals.

7.3.2 (Argus)
According to comments under this topic the 845 epics don't grant chaos shards anymore. This is probably because the ilvl of mythic dungeons was upgraded over the course of the expansion (although the comment seems to be from 7.0.1). That would confirm my old theory that mythic dungeon looted items are the first tier of 100% chaos shard drops. I suppose that it is 850 now, but will have to do testing on my enchanter, or get info from you folks.

I suspect this is only practically obtainable from IL 840+ Epics in Legion. I received my first one today disenchanting an IL 840 ring. Sometimes 835's will give one too.

Heyy guys:

Id like to confirm that you DO NOT NEED ilevel 835+ items DEd to get chaos crystals. You need ANY legion epic. I just got a chaos crystal on my 103 Druid by DEing a warforged quest reward, wasnt even a 750 ilevel item! Maybe at higher ilevels the chaos crystal drop rates become more significant, but it seems ANY legion epic will grant you a possibility of getting a chaos crystal when disenchanted

The Chaos Crystals are currently not dropping for everybody when disenchanting Legion Epic gear. This is a bug.
A GM have confirmed to one of my guild officers that Chaos Crystals are supposed to drop from disenchanting all legion epic gear, regardless of item level.

I am one of the unlucky ones getting Temporal Crystals instead :(

I have disenchanted legion epic ilvl 835+ and gotten Temporal Crystals, so the comment about the ilvl needing to be 835+ doesn't hold for everyone.

I did a test where all addons and Curse was uninstalled and I got 2 Chaos Shards from looted gear 1 was ilvl 825, can't remember ilvl for the other one. My crafted epic gear still gave Temporal Crystals.

I have found a cheap way to get Chaos Crystals.

While making "Silkweave Pantaloons", Rank 3 (16 cloth, 1G vendor materials, easy to obtain Rank 3), I ended up with several epic pieces. I sighed and DE'd them anyway, assuming they would give Temporal Crystals. The item level was 785.

They did not. They gave Chaos Crystals. Depending on your servers prices, this comes out to roughly 600g per crystal, if you average 1 epic pants per 4 combines like I did.

I disenchanted an ilvl810 Direbrew's Bloodied Shanker and it gave me 1 chaos crystal.

Has anyone figured out an easier way to get these than doing world quests for loot?

ih303 helped me out below, but this is what worked for me to make gold at the end of the Legion expansion:

1) Figure out your best legendaries and D/E all of the gear you've been holding onto to replace set pieces, etc.
2) Head to the Deliverence Point, Broken Shore and trade in all of your extra shards for any token (I used necklaces), create the actual pieces from the tokens and D/E those.
3) Head to the Blood of Sargaras vendor in Dalaran and grab as many Leylight Shards as you need to craft as many Mark of the Hidden Satyrs as you can.
4) Lots and lots of profit.

The recipes for all of the "Mark of the..." require 12 Chaos Crystals, so if you need more you can do the new world quests on Darkshore in 8.0 or just farm dungeons/wq until you get enough. Something I didn't realize before is that the set you can get from Darkshore is new transmog...

For anyone "farming" these in BFA, the dauntless gear that you buy from the Broken Shore vendor will 100% disenchant into chaos crystals, and I feel like nethershards are slightly less boring to farm than dungeons? That's just me though

EDIT: With the new legacy loot rules for Legion raids, running those (i.e. Emerald Nightmare, Nighthold, etc.) on Heroic/Mythic is really good for Chaos Crystals as well, and for transmog of course :)

Does anyone know why these are still selling VERY well? What are people making with Legion enchanting mats during SL? Not complaining I'm just honestly curious. I've sold so many from DEing during my Balance of Power questline.
