Best place I found to farm these are at 43, 16 Okrillon Hold. Most people just run in and kill the quest guy, but this places has lots of mobs, quick respawn rate, and most people don't kill many of the mobs because they are too focused on the quest.

A brilliant pet! First off, finally added, Thank you blizz. Secondly, brilliant money. I farmed one, and sold it for 22,000 Gold. on a medium pop server. I killed probably 300 before this little dragon finally dropped, so buckle in for a farm.

About time they added this pet to the game. As of the launch event for WoD it is a drop from the iron horde orcs and ogres invading the Blasted Lands, but it has been confimed by Jonathan LeCraft that it will still drop after the launch event is over

I farmed for about 4 hours at 45.33, 31.81 by the cave. There's almost a steady stream of orges and orcs. I ended up getting 2 in the same loot from a group that I killed.

Curious how much data needs to be collected before Wowhead posts an estimated drop rate from specific mobs. Both the box and the opened pet are starting to show up in greater numbers on my main server's AH.

A great place to farm this is in the cave in Serpent's Coil where the executioners have to be killed to save Nethergarde Keep guards. If you go to the very end of the cave, it forks into two, dead end paths. There's lots of low-health foragers and Firebrands that die with one hit.The respawn is quick enough that as soon as you clear one dead end, the other has respawned. Farmed 3 boxes in a little over an hour (may have been luck though).

If your grinding this like myself, Head over to 'Okril'lon Hold', Head up the garrison about half way up there is a door out on too a terrace. You can kill mobs here around the circular tower and by the time you get full circle they have re-spawned = simple grind circle

I just had this stolen from me after I killed Mokrik Blackfingers. I went to loot the body, saw this in the loot box, then had a lag spike. After my computer recovered from the lag spike, it was gone and a priest next to me had already taken and learned it. I thought group/quest mobs gave individual loot?

I farmed for about an hour in the Okril'lon Hold base. I managed to get one after around 200 mobs, and then randomly got a second one one minute later. The mobs in the area do indeed drop the pet, it's simply a case of their loot tables not being updated yet.

I've been farming these to sell for gold. I'm trying to remake back what I lost helping a friend get her Challenge Modes. Completely ate into my Draenor stockpile. It's a shame these guys don't drop things like Windwool or something.

Just looted one off a Ironmarch Raider in Nethergarde Keep. Totally unexpected & love this pet. I won't say how many kills I had, just that I got lucky & was not farming it. Others on my realm had upwards of over 1k kills on the various orcs in the area with no luck. I wish you all the best of luck.

So far I have seen many listed in auction houses on several realms. In discussions online it seems right now the drop rate isn't as low as listed on here.

There is an ogre cave just South of Okril'lon Hold (Co-ordinates 40.5, 32.5). You can run a circle path through this cave over and over and the respawn rate is fast enough that you will never have nothing to kill. Got my whelpling after about 3 hours of doing this so be persistent!

According to my kill count and my guildies, the drop rate is about 0.1%.

Over 2,800 kills now without a drop. I keep killing, and wow keeps being non-random. It's safe to say that this is another nightmare drop that duplication exploiters will make a killing from.

And Susan Express will just get richer from the gold buyers who pay the exploiters.

I've been farming this around the entrance of Okril'lon Hold. Considering the rough number of mobs and respawn time, I'm guessing I've killed a bit past 3k+ of these by now, and I've had one pet drop so far. The drop chance seems to be about as low as all the other whelps', but that being said, it doesn't feel too bad. In decent gear the mobs are close to oneshot range and even as a melee, it's easy enough to clear the entire entrance area in 2-3 pulls, just to have the mobs respawn at the first spot you cleared once you're done.

Another important thing to note is that these mobs neither drop Mote of Harmonies or Lesser Charms, so if you considered farming the pet while grinding either of these, you may get dissapointed.

I got this after approximately 200 kills inside the Dreadmaul Furnace. You can find this below the Altar of Storms at 40,32. The mobs respawn quickly enough so that once you make one round about the cave, they have all respawned. I had dabbled with other areas, but I found this to be the most empty (didn't see a single person besides myself) and the most populous with adds.

Not everyone is the same, but I had a lot better luck here than Orkrillon.

Just had this drop for me after farming for just over an hour for it.

I found the best place to be Okril'lon Hold, located in the Blasted Lands at 41,12. This is the same place as where Gar'mak Torcilame can be found.

On the ground floor, there is a mix of Sciacallo della Marcia di Ferro , Brandigelo della Marcia di Ferro and Sciamano della Marcia di Ferro.

Going up the stairs and through the doorway takes you onto a circular area, which has more Sciacallo della Marcia di Ferro and Brandigelo della Marcia di Ferro , with the addition of Sentinella della Marcia di Ferro .

All you need to do is start from the entrance and clear the bottom level out. Go up to the circular area, and keep on killing everything there. After making several rounds on the circular area, you will end up slightly ahead of the respawns - at this point you simply fly down to the entrance and start over, as the ground floor Ironmarch will have all respawned.

According to the AddOn Rarity, it took me 566 kills for the Time-Locked Box to drop, taking me roughly 1 hour and 15 minutes.

Just a heads up there is a Mine near Nethgarde Keep.Entrances located at: 50.2, 10.4 & 54.2, 12.9. This mine is chock full of Ironmarch mobs in packs of 3-5. At a 570 ilvl I was able to tear through these packs with 2-3 hits, killing mobs by the literal hundreds per loop, and you can loop constantly with no down time. Incidentally this appears to be the same cave lay out as the Netherwing daily cave. They are thickest towards the rear of the cave.

I farmed mine in a cave not part of the quest, only saw 1 other player (cave entrance 60, 29). Not sure how efficient it was, but it did feel as if i was constantly killing.
I had 417 total kills, and spend about 2hours farming :)

He's very cute :D I hated not having all the whelplings :P

Made a map with 4 points where I farmed after this.
Around 54,38 there is 7-8 easy killed Ironmarch npc's stacked repairing a vehicle.
Around 53,18 (west of Nethergarde Keep) there is a fine packed place that I prefer, that other people normally ignore while they do the chain quest.
Following north of last point to 51,14 there is a few packs that is easy to pull.
Last point is Dreadmaul Hold at 41,16. At the entrance there is a good deal to pull, however often killed by questing people. You can also fly up on the hold castle, and take the ones at the balcony.

After this you can fly to the first point, and they should have respawned. If not include Dreadmaul Post around 44,34 for 7-13 small npc's.

I got it after a few hundred kills, so probably was lucky compared to drop rate, but it went pleasantly fast compared to many other things I have farmed.
Caves are also a possibility, but it just feels slow to me, with a slow but steady kill rate.
This one has some downtime while traveling, but when you get there, you can just pull a lot and kill. (does require that you have the dps for it).

The absolute best place to farm is right in front of the Dark Portal. There are a TON of guys right there - and more come out of the Portal regularly. Respawn time is fairly quick - we killed maybe 2-3 groups around outer edge of the portal before returning to the inner area.

Caveats:
You need to be at least semi-well geared, as all the mobs here are elite.
Probably need two people - a healer and DPS is what we used.

Dangers:
Ironmarch Scorchers throw fire all over the ground. This hurts way more than anything else - stay out of the fire!
Ironmarch Champions fear in melee. This can get scary if you've pulled too many, as aggro will shift to your ranged member.

We both got our bronze dragonlings in about 200 kills, so we happened to be really lucky. :) Good luck!

Good place to farm these is on the roof Okril'lon Hold. You can run around in circles as the mobs respawn. Hardly any downtime!

I farmed at Okril'lon Hold, took a few hours but I get distracted easily. After 930-odd kills, plus about 30-40 more that for some reason didn't register with Rarity addon, the box dropped for me inside the hold. I'm 554 hunter with a tank pet so farming there was easy for me, and like it's been said, the mobs there respawn within a minute or less. Great farming spot for the Time-Locked Box.

I just boosted a hunter on the Dalaran server after purchasing WoD (I already have a Lvl 90 I've played since BC), killed 4 Ironmarch Grunts right after receiving the first Blasted Lands quest, looted this item off the fourth one, progressed through the questline, killed Rukah the Machinist, and looted this item AGAIN. So either I'm the luckiest guy to ever play the game (not with the stuff I've put up with! lol) or Blizz upped the drop rate for this. Any ideas?

I personally think that Okril'lon Hold is the best place to farm for this. Most of the mobs (Sciamano della Marcia di Ferro, Depredatore della Marcia di Ferro, Brandigelo della Marcia di Ferro) are higher on the percent chart than the mobs in other farming areas. The mobs also have very fast respawn rates, since they are needed for the quest there. They also are tightly packed, making it easy to pull big groups. Lastly, inside the actual hold is Gar'mak Torcilame who has the highest drop chance of all the mobs who drop it (0.8%). He respawns quickly too, because he is a quest objective.

I still can't help but wonder if there is something odd going on. Even with rare mounts, you usually see many people reporting similar range drops.

That doesn't feel like it's the case here. On here and among my friends, im just seeing people getting it fast (don't complain under 500 kills, please T_T) or after 1000+ kills. I know fast kills and people with 2000+ kills are more likely to get reported but still....

I farmed the Dreadmaul Flame-Belchers and Dreadmaul Crushers in the Ogre cave south-east of the Altar of storms. Fast respawn and the cave goes in a circle, so no backtracking. Farmed for a couple hours (500~ mobs) before it dropped.

Don't give up! I put in roughly 500 kills a night for 4 nights with no results. I went on night 5 and it dropped after 12th ogre in the cave. They're still dropping, but I feel sorry for anyone who waits until after WoD starts. If they're going to nerf the droprate, it'll be like trying for the firefly...

I just came back to WoW and the Time-Locked Box dropped from a scout when I was doing Subversive scouts. I thought it was a common drop untill I came here. WoW, I usually spend days farming such items.

I am after some feedback, since the portal event has finished does this even drop anymore? I have been farming here for about 3 hours and no drop so far. I am beginning to wonder if it was just a "Event" drop and it has been turned off? I am beginning to think so, or the RNG gods are sending me on Dante's journey.

I spent about 45 minutes in the Nethergarde Mines killing NPC's and finally got it to drop. I'll submit a screenshot of the exact location inside the mines of where the mob was that dropped it. The Nethergarde mines are located in the blasted land. Head due North and it will be at the top of the map where the mountains are.. Take the portal which is located next to the mage trainer in the Cleft of Shadows located in Orgrimmar to get to the blasted lands. The NPC's located here are level 90. Just keep trying and you will eventually get a blue item dropped called "Time-locked box". This is the Bronze whelping, so don't throw it out now realizing what it is. This is the best information I can give based off my experience. Oh and you don't have to have W.o.D. to have them drop. Best of luck, just keep killing the guys located inside of here. (First post sorry if it's the greatest or in the correct format).

Do not be fooled by the current 'dropped by' tab. This pet drops from pretty much all level 90 mobs in the area. Including the ogres just south of Okril'lon hold.

Easier than i thought - at okril'lon hold in blasted lands (waypoint 41 10) there are heaps and they respawn fast. After trying to get it in the nethergard mine where none dropped (and i was in there for far too long last night), i found this place much easier.
I didn't go there originally because i thought maybe it would be controlled by horde (i'm alliance) but its not. Quite safe to go and kill mobs at 100, as most are 90s. I just focused on the 2nd level outside balcony that goes in a complete circle (you can fly up to it), then back down the bottom to kill the mobs inside on ground level.
I used my (DK) aoe's. Made the farming very quick and they respawned as soon as i made a ground level sweep to go back up to lvl 2. Very simple.
If you go up to the top inner level, where the boss is, a dranei comes and helps you but you've got this pretty easy.

Just picked one up from Mokrik today, 4/5/15. It dropped within eight kills after picking up the Lunatic Lieutenants quest. Definitely seems like it can drop from pretty much any invasion mob.

So uh... this dropped from an Ironmarch Grunt inside of the now destroyed Nethergaarde Keep area. It was the 5th mob I killed since entering the zone. I didn't know anything about this little Bronze Whelpling before coming here. I am sorry.

(Just to the east of Nethergarde Keep.)

Dreadmaul has really nice spawn rates, while the Forge Grounds and cave have large quantities of mobs.

My preferred spot for farming was around the Dark Portal. Most enemies are 90 Elites but there are non-elites as well, including a tightly packed group of Foragers. If you're farming this at 100 (like I was) or even 110 the elites are cake. The great thing about this spot is there was no running in and out of buildings, unlike palces like Okril'lon Hold. Kill 2-6 guys, loot, mount, fly to next bunch, repeat. I'm not sure how many kills it took me but it was much less than 500 (only about 30 minutes of farming).

According to Rarity, it takes about 500 attempts to get this. It dropped for me after 849th attempt from either a Forager or the Shaman in Okril'lon Hold, the group next to the campfire on your right as you enter the camp. I'd put the screenshot of it but it would not make Wowhead's screenshot guidelines.

Take heart if it doesn't drop right away. On this most recent grind for it, it took 845 kills for me to get it to drop. I'm sure there was another few hundred before I installed Rarity.

Roughly 1500 attempts - half an hour of uncounted kills then put in Rarity addon - another 1110 attempts in just over an hour and got it. The first 1300 or so were in Okril'lon Hold area then I moved to Nethergarde out of boredom and got it there. 456 Battered Armor Fragments, 181 Damaged Weaponry and one Time-locked Box. Whew!

2646 kills before the box dropped.... Rarity told me it was 500, if i'd known it was closer to 3k I probably wouldn't have bothered trying lol. This must be karma from when I got the dark whelping on my 8th kill yesterday. But now I have it, it's not even a good one as it's H/S breed, but oh well. If I just get the emerald whelping then I'll have all 5. This took me several hours - I don't know people are saying they kill that many in like an hour, that's not possible. At level 120 I am obviously one-shotting everything with my hunter, but the mobs are too spread out to be killing that quickly. I started with the elites down around the dark portal, moved to nethergard keep after about 1000 kills, started going around the mines area at the top of the map, by 1800ish kills I moved to Okrilon Hold but the mobs are not as dense there as people on here have said, so I finally went to the cave that was mentioned before at 60, 29 and looped around there until I just got the box now. I've been at it for probably 5-6 hours, so don't kid yourself and think you can do it in an hour. You might get lucky, but don't count on it.

Obviously, focus your efforts on the slightly-more-populated areas, like in front of Nethergarde Keep and the front part of the Ok'rilon area in the northwest. If you can get together 5 or more mobs to kill all at once, you're doing about as good as can be.

If you are going to be farming this at a high level, you may as well farm Ironmarch Legionnaire and Ironmarch Warcaster. They are the elites around the Dark Portal itself. Same drop rate and spawn rate as all the other trash but since they are elites they drop 1-3g per kill.

889 mobs killed. If you're max level - I'd advise you to kill elite mobs around the portal. You will one shot them but at least it's 1-2g per mob.

2173 attempts for me, took about 3 hours total. Agree with some of the other comments for max level - farm around the portal. Good luck!

1421 Attempts for me. Got the S/S version though. Definitely farm around the portal. If you're gonna have to kill that many, might as well get a little gold for it.

If you have a max level druid, use it. The instant flight form is the best for this grind. I got it after a little over 800 kills from around the dark portal elites. It took me roughly 30 minutes... (having master riding also helps).

I just had this Scatola Sigillata nel Tempo drop. It is looted from various Ironmarch mobs around the . I had mine drop from a Sciacallo della Marcia di Ferro which was located standing at the front gates of Okril'lon Hold which is at the top left corner of the map.

Don't panic if you can't find Scatola Sigillata nel Tempo in your Pet Journal, because it turned into a pet called Draghetto Bronzeo.

As per my Rarity add-on count, it took me 101 attempts, it dropped today.

Based on the comments here and personal experience the drop rate for this mob is not the 0.5% or 1 in 200 shown in the table but 0.05% or 1 in 2000, which matches the drop rate for other world drop whelps. It may have been 0.5% at initial release but not now.

1205 Attempts it took me to obtain this item.

Farm the mobs around the Dark Portal, as like a lot of people here say, you will at least acquire some passive gold.

A ranged class, druid of any spec level 100+, will make this much easier.

Took me about 2 hours, good luck ladies and gentlemen.

Spent about an hour killing mostly in Nethergarde Keep area and switched to Okril'lon Hold for 10 last minutes after reading here and it dropped. Netting around 400 grey items.

Rarity stated: 106 attempts before I got it. Best area I found was Nethergarde Keep, you can circle into Nethergarde mines and come out for everything to respawn. Good luck!

It is still dropping. Mine dropped from any Ironmarch troops in Okril'lon Hold after 1454 attempts.

3048 kills (likely closer to 3150 with any kills I had before I had Rarity), luckily I had the day off to bang my head against this wall in the free time.

Like others have said, the Dark Portal is nice for farming for the gold, but the spawn rate of enemies there is pretty slow if you're using a class that can kill pretty quickly. Okril'lon Hold has small clusters of enemies, but the spawn rate is pretty fast, so if you don't mind the walking back and forth, it's a good place to go. Nethergarde Keep is nice for having more enemies closer together in the surrounding camp, but the spawn rate on enemies there is similar to those around the Dark Portal, so you may still have to move around after clearing those out. The mines next to the Keep directly north in the zone are a nice place if you want a change of pace and it loops back on itself, but you likely won't be able to run that loop continuously because the spawn rate is still a bit slow. The cave at 60,29 west of the Shattered Beach head has enemies that respawn quickly, but like Okril'lon, the groups are smaller so it still feels like a slow grind.

I personally got my drop off of a Forager near Nethergarde, but no enemy has a better drop rate than other's despite what Wowhead says in the percentages. Go into this expecting the 1/2000 rate and keep in mind that, if that's right, even on the 2000th kill you would only have a 63% chance of seeing the drop somewhere in there. 1,083 attempts before I got it according to the Rarity addon. Took a little more than an hour. ugh. I was going to try to get one for my husband too if I got it within 500.... obviously I did not... therefore my husband is not getting one....

It dropped after 1450 attempts, in Okril'lon Hold. Out of boredom, I had started the stopwatch at 1350 kills and the last 100 took 7 minutes, just going through the motions - they respawn as fast as you can kill them. Good luck all!

Dropped today after 608 Attempts. I started out at the hold but then moved to Nethergarde Keep due to the amount of mobs. Rarity does state within 500 attempts but don't give up!

Okay don't hate me but I just got it after 12 kills. Sooooooo is the drop rate heavily increased or does RNG love me?

Love how salty people on this site downvote people with good luck. I got it surprisingly easy so I documented my experience and asked if the droprate was increased or if I was astronomically lucky. but nope. people cant handle that someone is just lucky and got something they didn't. Stay mad

You ever just happen upon something, Auctionator tells you it’s worth 89k on your server and you go look it up? yep that’s what happened. Killed Kazzak got gold as usual, came into the section near the Ogres, killed them all and got this box. Never killed them before, never really came up this side either, was just flying around and saw elite orcs and was like 0.0 time to kill me some elite orcs. Wasn’t expecting an 89k drop either …

I’ve been going around lately in a few zones and just killing random things, I don’t really have much to do and so spend most of my time just killing random monsters in starting zones and areas I’m near. Just waiting for DF honestly at this point. If I’m not on WoW than I’m on Ark Survival and I change games based on what I feel like playing.

But yeah anyways finally got something noteworthy from my random killings lol. Oh man can’t get the event bosses to drop anything but hey here’s a rare box haha.

just go to the mines and stick to the miners. 0.5% on those which given their abundance means its the fastest way by a long shot.

As of January 2023/Dragonflight/patch 10.0.2, can confirm this item does still drop (I was starting to wonder personally).

Looted off of Ironmarch Forager in Okril'lon Hold after approximately 600 kills. Looted 377 armor fragments and 173 damaged weapons along the way. These mobs don't drop anything else except gold, so it's very boring.

I stayed in the front area (forge, entrance, and first tower. No need to run all the way back to the hold. You'll get it eventually.

I got this after 1191 attempts from an Ironmarch Pillager! It took me a solid few hours to get the drop.

I started with the miners but finished up in Okril'lon Hold after reading some comments, where I eventually got the box.

Don't give up, you'll have the whelpling soon enough!

I was in the area doing the quests for the Iron Starlette pet. Had no idea this was a thing.
I'm in the most recent patch, 10.1.5.
I'm a bit ashamed of myself, I should have been farming this. I've been collecting since vanilla!
Edit: Apologies, I did not make it clear that this did indeed drop for me, and was surprising. Don't give up!
