Information accurate as of WOD Beta patch 18973.

This trap is obtainable once the Barn in the garrison has been upgraded to Level 3 (through Stalla, Livello 3). Certain beasts trapped using the Deadly Iron Trap yield more mats per work order and have a chance of providing Sangue Selvaggio, which is needed by all professions to craft high level epics.

The beasts that will give you the extra mats are the elites that roam the northwesternish areas of Nagrand that stretch from the area just west of the Throne of Elements, westward through Mok'Gol Watchpost and then southwest through the islands north and west of the Ancestral Grounds.

I just spent a couple of hours trekking through Nagrand and out of the six possible beasts in the tooltip, I could only find clefthoof, wolf and riverbeast elites. I've listed these below, along with the item that you gain when you trap them. There are elite elekks, talbuks and boar NPCs currently in the database that are located in the same region of Nagrand (Elekk Pestaterra, Talbuk Mantospinoso, and Aggressore Grandespina), but I did not find any today. The creature types may rotate on a periodic basis (daily or dependent on time of day, for example). I will update this post if I find any additional info or if anyone can provide any.

EDIT: The trap's range has been expanded since this was first posted at release; it is much easier to trap now than it was. It is still helpful to move the creature through the trap if it doesn't trigger immediately.

EDIT2: Use this as a group to speed up the process; any one group member can drop the trap, but all group members will receive the trapped item.

EDIT3: (Bonus tip) Use the Looking For Group tool to find a custom group for trap farming.

If you are still having trouble using this item, the trick is that the creature must be wounded and then must walk through the trap.

You can drop the trap during combat but for me it didn't work to just drop it under the creature, I had to drop it and then kite him to walk into the trap.

You will know you have succeeded when an NPC (Farmer Lok'lub, for me) appears and makes a comment about how well you've done. You will also create a Bestia Ingabbiata per il Cuoio, a Bestia Ingabbiata per la Pelliccia, or a Bestia Ingabbiata per la Carne depending what you trap. This level of trap can also capture elites, and yield Gran Bestia dei Fiumi Ingabbiata, Gran Mammuceronte Ingabbiato or Gran Lupo Ingabbiato.

This trap works on a "wounded adult beast" - the Gentle Clefthoof near your garrison do not count. Look for beasts that are naturally hostile to you and you will have more success.

To trap a elite animal you need to bring it's health below 50% and due to their size and rather small hitbox quite hard to trap. I found it worked the best if I stood still when deploying the trap and wait until it is armed before moving backwards. Just keep an eye on your health pool, all elites are hitting my priest relatively hard.

Depending on how easy your class can handle elites you may need decent gear for this. I could easily trap all of the elites with my 630 priest kiting the animals up an down the road on my Lupo da Guerra dei Lupi Bianchi, but it took quite some time to get the 6 animals for the day.

From what I've heard to chance of a level 3 barn work order containing a Sangue Selvaggio is ~33%, however out of 5 elite work orders I did none yielded any. I will update my drops the next days and try to get a data sample big enough to estimate a good average.

If you have Barracks level 2 or 3, you should bring a follower with a Bodyguard trait.
With my character being around item level 640, the bodyguard does about 30% of my total damage. This makes the trapping quite easier.

Ever since the nerf on the traps cooldown to 15 seconds, you can get two captures from a single creature.

The tactic is just to drop one when the mob is around 80% health, depending on the mob and your damage. Then you drop another trap right on top of the first one, remember don't move. After that drop the mob below 50% and pull it over the two traps.

This way you should get two items in your bags if you manage to capture it in the 15 second window the traps are a top of each other. Rather easy when you get a hang of it.

Saves a lot of time when capturing elites.

EDIT: There is indeed about 8 second window after the capture animation starts where you can put a trap under the beast to get another one. Just make sure you got less than 8 seconds cooldown on your trap when you trap the beast. With this same logic you can capture other peoples beasts during their capture animation.

Today, only one trap will trap an animal. Additional traps do not work. The animal can only be trapped by a person that has "tagged" the animal or a group member. All members of the tagging person's 5 man (group of raid) party will receive the trapped animal.
No more sharing, but now you see groups running through clearing areas, and Blizzard has increased the spawn times for the elite animals that were the target of the "Trapping Wars".

The Trappola di Ferro, Trappola di Ferro Migliorata and Trappola di Ferro Letale work on animals at 50% or less health.

This post was made prior to the trap changes in later patches, but lends insight into why traps act as they do now.

~~SHARING TRAPPED ANIMALS~~ (Obsolete)

My main purpose here is to discuss the SHARING OF ANIMALS. When you are trapping, at times it seems they die before you have the trap down. Later on when you are doing elites with the Trappola di Ferro Letale, this will not be the case.

An animal at 50% health, or below, is able to be trapped by as many traps as there are below it. Once trapped, the other traps have to be in the same position as the original trap that trapped the beast.

In the elite spawn areas of Nagrand there is a lot of competition for the animals used in the Trappola di Ferro Letale. When one person kills an animal down to the right health and you run in and drop your trap before the person doing the work has trapped it ... YOU ARE AN @$$.

There are ways to share. If you want to share, then target the animal and simply wait until the person doing the work traps the animal (you will see the trap buff come up on the target animal). Then place your trap on top of theirs ... you will see two trap buffs and receive the trapped animal as well. Sometimes the person doing the work isn't very good at the task and their trap sits for awhile before they finally get the animal into it. The trap will despawn in 30 seconds from being dropped (cooldown is 15 sec. which means you can get 2 from one animal). If they manage to trap the animal at 29 seconds, you will not have a chance to share, because their trap and the animal will despawn at 30 seconds. This still does not give you the right to steal the animal by trapping it before the person that has tagged it and is doing the work of bring its health down.

I was sharing, and a fellow of the other faction came unglued. He didn't understand the mechanics and thought I had stolen from him. He followed me around stealing all my animals for awhile until he felt better, then he made a character on my faction, just to yell at me. I didn't fight him when he was stealing and I tried to calmly explain to him the mechanics when he was screaming at me in tells.

This can be a great issue of contention that Blizzard will have to face. Many people do not like sharing, and even more are thieves.

I have a lvl 3 barn but still don't have the deadly iron trap... The one on the ground is the improved iron trap. Am I missing a step to get this?

To trap an animal, you must bring their health down to 50% or less. If you are high dps, have a pet, bodyguard, or trinket proc ... they will usually die before getting trapped. When you place the Trappola di Ferro , it will sit for a second as it opens. It will not trap an animal during this period. Once it is opened, the damaged animal must walk over it.

I use the macro below to keep from killing them before they are trapped. Bring them to 50% then use the Trappola di Ferro macro (below).

You trap animals (listed on the trap) to get one of the Caged Beast listed below. You then turn them in to the ~~<Barn Supervisor>~~<Work Orders> either Homer Pietradura or Contadino Lok'lub. Depending on the type of Caged Beast you bring him, he will offer to start a workorder for:

Clefthoof or Elekk = Bestia Ingabbiata per il Cuoio workorder produces 8 x Pelle Grezza di Bestia

Talbuk or Wolf = Bestia Ingabbiata per la Pelliccia workorder produces 8 x Pelliccia Splendida

Riverbeat or Boar = Bestia Ingabbiata per la Carne workorder produces 1 x Banchetto Selvaggio

(Bestia Ingabbiata per il Cuoio Bestia Ingabbiata per la Pelliccia Bestia Ingabbiata per la Carne - MAY BE IN YOUR BANK to start the work order with them. They fit in the Reagents tab.)

With a LEVEL 100 follower working in your Barn (with the Scuoiatura trait), instead of 8 you will produce 12, or instead of 1 occasionally you will get 2. Followers of lower level do not produce as much additional (stated in the tool tip Scuoiatura).

Those of you that chose a Brewery for your Spires of Arak garrison, will have acquired Hulda Shadowblade at the end of your questline for the zone. Those that did not acquire Hulda Shadowblade, will probably need to find Mantodoro lo Scuoiatore. When you free him you get Amici felini per sempre which rewards Seguace: Mantodoro lo Scuoiatore.

Gran Mammuceronte Ingabbiato, Gran Lupo Ingabbiato, and Gran Bestia dei Fiumi Ingabbiata will give 15/22 instead of 8/12 (without follower/with follower) and have the possibility of Sangue Selvaggio.

TRAP MACRO

Instead of Trappola di Ferro mine is now Trappola di Ferro Migliorata or Trappola di Ferro Letale. (Everywhere in the macro where it says, "Iron Trap", I have added "Improved" so that now it says, "Improved Iron Trap" -- or "Deadly" and "Deadly Iron Trap".)

Type /macro into the chat window and your Macro Frame will open. There are two tabs at the top, General Macros and <CharacterName> Specific Macros. Click on the Character Specific tab and then find and click the New Button (bottom about center). A side window will open with a lot of icons, and the Red Question Mark icon selected. Leave the Red Question Mark icon as the icon selection and type in any name even a blank space will do in the top text area of the side window. So that I know it is a macro, I always give it some name even an X at times. I named this one TRAP.

Now click the Okay button and that side frame will close. Click on the large black text area to position your cursor into the text field, it should automatically be in the top left corner. Now copy and past the commands below into the window ... just as they are typed:

The first command makes the Red Question Mark icon turn into the Trappola di Ferro icon.
Next is the command that stops your Attacco Automatico.
Next will put your pet on passive followed by the command to put your pet on follow.

All attacking has been stopped and the last act is to drop the Trappola di Ferro.

Press the save button and the macro with the name you gave it and the Trappola di Ferro icon will be there in your macro frame. Now you just drag it to an action bar (as you would any spell) and go test it out. And now you have made your first macro and have a bit of an understanding, you can go to:

You do not need to complete the barn quests (The ones where you use the iron trap or improved iron trap to capture something) before you can use this.

With 6.1, double trapping seems to be gone for good. On the plus side, the cooldown has been reduced from 15 seconds to 5, making it much less tedious for a level 100 to trap level 90 wolves near the garrison.

How to PROPERLY use this item:

1. Open the Pre-Made Groups UI and select Custom.

2. Type "trap" into filter. Select a couple groups that have at least a few dps and a healer. Wait to get accepted.

3. Follow party members, dps-ing elites or healing depending on your role. Some other more competent people in the group will do the actual trapping.

4. Get mighty cages while still being clueless with the trap mechanic and profit.

Just walked away from ~30 minutes of grinding wolves with a group... have 85 Caged Mighty Wolves and I used my trap exactly zero times.

16 Ironhoof Bulls trapped yielded a crappy 2 savage blood. Not impressed considered how much time I put into doing that.

If you delete/replace the Barn, you will still have the trap in your inventory. And it will even work - you can catch a beast. But this action does not produce the product item: you won't get the Caged <something>. The captured mob will just disappear after few seconds - like usual, but without the item.
I'm not saying that this is wrong. Just information for those who decided to make a break in having the Barn, but still accumulating the items in the bank for future re-creating the Barn - it won't work.

On a whim, I decided to try trapping the Garn Urlocupos in Frostfire Ridge, and to my surprise, they actually do yield Gran Lupo Ingabbiato. However, they are significantly tougher to kill than their Nagrand cousins, and I'd only recommend coming here if too many people are trapping the Direfangs. Oh, and bring either a tank spec, some heals, or some decent gear, and avoid Nok-Karosh (or don't, whatever).

As of Shadowlands, the passive bonuses to melee damage for some classes have rendered their strikes almost lethal (79-80% of the mob's health) even with all armor unequipped. The Soft Foam Sword is not usable on the Nagrand elites as of yet. If you notice you are critting a larger number of wolves, use a non-damaging ability like taunt to get them up from sitting or sleeping animations, otherwise you will always crit these mobs. The clefthoof negate this issue by being constantly on high alert and never sleeping, and the riverbeasts' nap-time is not a critical strike inducing deep sleep.

Nope, they broke the Toy Sword, so you cannot use it.
Nope, they put a 10min timer on the Head Shrinking toy so you cannot collect them.
Nope, the obelisk is only 2 kills.
Just give up. Blizzard refuses to fix. Fight them. Make an alt. Okay...Blizzard took out the ability to sell Savage Blood.
It's just pulling nails to get Blizzard to do anything.
Move on quickly. They will just suck your soul. LOL!
When they ask what happened to the players. These bread crumbs where on the ground. Leading to the MONSTERS!
