This box is sent to your level 90 characters when you first log in (once Patch 5.4 launches) as a means to get you to the Timeless Isle. Inside you'll find a Curious Bronze Timepiece which is a one-time use only item that will teleport you to the shores.

The accompanying letter that comes with the gift states:

A new island has appeared off the southeast coast of the Jade Forest, not from out of the mists, but from out of TIME.

It is a strange and mysterious place that vanished millennia ago, where time stands still and monstrous beasts roam, and the August Celestials hold court once again.

Come to the Timeless Isle, <Name>. Assist us as we explore the island and seek to understand how it was lost, and how it came to be found again.

The rewards will be substantial.

EDIT: The latest build on the PTR has now removed this package being sent, and level 90 characters receive a quest that sends them to Chromie at the Seat of Knowledge.

i think i will use Deterrence when opening this box i don't trust a strange box thats ticking sent to me in the mail

This is a reference to the first Tomb Raider movie. Remember Lara Croft searching for the source of a ticking sound at night, and finding an old box with a strange timepiece inside ? Well, Alliance players receive this from a NPC called Lara.
