This item dropped from the first common mobs I killed, that is a pack of 3 mushans and a fox in the valley of the four winds. 4 mobs dead, 4 schematics.

After activating it, I learned 5 new engineer recipes :
* Fonte d'Energia Peculiare di Jard (component, once per day only) : 10xLingotto di Ectoferro
* Golem dei Cieli (flying mount) : 30xFonte d'Energia Peculiare di Jard + 30xAcciaio Vivente

Looted 2x Jard's Journal from the mobs around
Ruins of Guo-Lai, Vale of Eternal Blossoms (cords 30.38) on two different Engineers.
lvl 90 mobs and the re-spawn is pretty fast.
Both drops took me no more than 5mins.

Great spot imo, but shhhhh! don't tell anyone else!
Still need to farm 2 more on different toons :P

PS: credit goes to Sunny (Korbendallas) for the farm location.

EDIT: Looted my 3rd and 4th Journal on my last two Engineers in the same spot,
3rd toon took 3mins, my 4th toon got her drop on first pull.

This drops of mobs on the Timeless isle.

Confirmed 2 drops.

Typically my friend kills 2 mobs and it drops for her. (both Elite Brilliant Windfeathers)
I had to farm for an hour to get mine, it dropped from a regular Windfeather mob. Coincidence I'm sure.
I've also seem comments in chat that it drops from regular mobs.

I can confirm this drops from normal mobs in the Vale. It dropped from a Manifestazione dell'Orgoglio.

Also, regarding people who confirm it's dropping off of any mob in Pandaria, here are the official patch notes.

Can confirm with patch notes:
"Engineers that are able to acquire Schema: Diario del Capo Ingegnere Jard can learn to craft Fonte d'Energia Peculiare di Jard; a new material used in a number of new engineering schematics. The journal can be obtained as a drop from creatures in Pandaria."

As mentioned elsewhere here, this is a Pandarian World Drop. So far I've farmed 4 of them (for different characters) and found each within 5 minutes of farming.

My farming point is the Hozen in the Valley of the Four Winds. There are plenty of them all around and they are easy to kill, it wouldn't take long to find it. If you are also a miner (which many engineers are), you'll probably fly away with enough Ghost Iron to make your first Energy Source!

So I booted up the game when I got home today having left it to patch while I was gone. I decided to finish collecting all the lore scrolls around Pandaria before getting in to the new content. I drop in to the first scroll and kill a jinyu and this dropped. I went to my bag to learn it and remembered I had a blingtron present that I closed the previous night to conserve bag space since it had trash in it. I opened today and Lil'Bling was in there =0... Anyway lejedifou is accurate in his description.

all mobs on timeless isle can drop this. i got it roughly after 30 kills of elite mobs and not elite mobs. the best farming place for this is the ashleaf sprite Folletto Fogliacinerea.

Seems like mostly ANY Pandaria mob will drop this as long as you have Engineering at 600 regardless of level. Dropped off a random Mogu in Jade Forest while levelling my 86 Shammy with maxed Eng.

Drop confirmed from a 'Manifestation of Pride' kill, at11:09 on Sylvanas EU Realm. I had 600 Engineering before the drop.
The recipe teaches Jard's Peculiar Energy Source, Sky Golem, Pierre, Rascal-Bot, Advanced Refrigeration Unit when used.

And got another on the 11th kill lol. Useless tho.

I had 580 and killed about 20 mobs and no drop, so i guess it only drops if u have 600 engi.

For me,

the easiest way to get this is by farming the low-hp mobs in the "Imperial Granary" (Valley of Four Winds, south river bed).

You also get the Follettata buff after a kill, which speeds things up.

I got the recipe after killing the third pack of mobs, together with some random greens and windwool cloth.

I must mention (if needed) that my engineering is maxed at 600.

I found that the best place to get these new patterns for any profession to drop was in valley of the four winds. Just mauled down 3-4 packs of stagthorns (where the tillers/cooking dailys are) and I got all the new profession stuff for all my toons. Took me less than 10 mins on all chars:)

After farming for a while on my less-than-maxed gnome (605), I was able to pick this up. So for those worried, you only have to be at 600, even if you're a gnome, to pick this book up!

I was killing things fr about 4 houyrs on the Isle without luck when I realised I was grouped with another engineer who already had the schematic... dropped group and got schematic on 15th Mushan kill in the Valley of 4 Winds

I got this to drop off Manifestation of Pride in the Vale of Eternal Blossoms. I took 21 mins and i probably killed 25 of them and you must be at max Engineering skill for it to drop. With this schematic you will learn Jard's Peculiar Energy Source, Sky Golem, Pierre, Rascal-Bot, and Advanced Refrigeration Unit.

This just dropped for me as a level 85 gnome in the Jade Forest at 600 Engineering (racial bonus included).

So confirmed that this drops below level 90 and also no need to max out to 615 as a gnome engineer.

You all write "first mob" "oh damm second mob wasnt that lucky.." i used 10 minutes og more on that book and i was like why the hell you dont drop what is wrong with my computer! but when it dropped i was happy :D Very happy :D :D

But i recommend you use the place in vale of eternal blossom called ruins of gun lao or something dropped on my 30-45 mob.. :D Good luck out there

A small addendum I did not read anywhere above about the drop chance.

I hit 600 in engineering, and went to kill mobs for almost 30 minutes, with no drop.

I logged out, and logged back in, and the item dropped off the first mob I killed.

If you having trouble getting the item to drop, you might try this.

In 5.4.2 my 81 gnome warlock (615 eng) with my 90 druid (to kill stuff) couldn't get this to drop.
Farmed timeless, farmed granary, farmed sha's in the vale, finally had it drop off of the first Shao-Tien Dominator at the entrance to the Guo-Lai Halls.

I can confirm that this item is obtainable at any level as long as you have 600 skill in engineering (so technically you need to be at least lv 80)

It dropped for me today, a level 89 shaman with 600 engineering, from an Ordo Marauder in Kun-Lai Summit in the camp near 48,79.

I had to farm the dang Motes of Harmony in order to reach 600, but I averaged 10 motes every 30 minutes by farming the hozen fishermen at Nayeli Lagoon in Krasarang Wilds.

I got mine while farming at the Singing Marshes for Wildfowl Breast to use for the Tillers rep. The enemies spawn pretty quick but are yellow so you don't have to worry about getting swarmed. They also drop feathers which vendor for about 5g. Dont know if its because I was killing so many, but I got about 6 motes of harmony along with the 50 breasts while killing the birds. This is by far the most motes I've gotten by killing enemies.
It also has a nice view of the valley, especially during a thunderstorm :0)

If this is taking a while and you're a gnome, and you're worried that you have to be capped, just keep killing stuff, i was 605 and got it. (cap is 615 for gnomes).

Had my 90 hunter boost my 80 druid/goblin engineer(600). Spent 5 minutes on the shore in Krasarang Wild (62.21, 39.11) killing Riverblade Theif's and Riverblade Raiders, and the book dropped off the 10th mob I killed. Thanks for the recommendation.

I should have enough Jard's Particular Energy Source by the time the druid hits 90.

I was farming Dark Soil in The Hearland, just North West of Halfhill in the Valley of the Four Winds, for items to gain friendship rep and had to fight off a bunch of Springtail Diggers and Springtail Gnashers in order to get this one plot of Dark Soil and when the dust finally settled and I looted all the corpses, the Schematic: Chief Engineer Jard's Journal actually dropped. Couldn't believe my luck!

I have been in Temple of the Jade Serpent as a level 92 about 4 times in a row and it has dropped before the 1st boss each time. Hope y'all have my drop luck.

This just dropped for me off of a Silentstrike Pterrorwing while I was parked in Krasarang Wilds farming Zandalari Warbringers for the direhorn mount. That NPC isn't listed here as a source, and Jard's Journal isn't listed there as a drop. Totally unexpected.

These schematics seem to drop randomly and quickly off of most mobs in Pandaria as long as you have an engineering skill of 600 (level 80+). Pick a spot you like and kill stuff and you should have them in 10-15 minutes. If you aren't having luck make sure they haven't already dropped for you -- check your bank, bags or your profession tab.

I'm at 250+ kills on the Manifestation of Pride in Vale, plus some on the Rikkilea Striders as well as trash in HoF, and nothing but Lesser Charms, a couple greens, and tons of gray Vials :( I'm not sure if I'm having bad luck, or something has changed in the droprates (though I doubt that). FWIW, I'm 700 Engineering.

Before you go on a hopeless hunt for this... Check your engineer professional book.

I was convinced that I did not have any recipes from Jard's Journal (because I played MoP for 2 days before WoD was released, just to level up in the zones) and so spent close to a cumulative 2 hours trying to farm it.

After getting so frustrating, I combed through these comments expecting that I needed to be 'attuned' to having this drop. One comment led me to check to see if I had this recipe already learned. I did.

Moral of the story... exhaust the 2 click options before the 3 hour ones!

Can confirm as of 5/24/2017 the Journal dropped for me off the 3rd mob of Manifestation of Pride just outside of Mogu'Shan Palace.

With the new Profession Changes in BFA I can confirm I had this item drop after I got 75 Pandaria Engineering on a new toon. It actually took a very decent amount of kills, I killed nearly every sha in the vale and cleared the first room of Mogu'shan Palace, it eventually finally dropped from one of the sha fellas in the Vale. I'm leaving this comment just in case anyone else thinks it can't drop anymore, I nearly gave up! All my other toons before 8.0 got it within the first few sha kills.
And if you're having trouble getting the 75 skill, I recommend farming the trash in the Heart of Fear (don't pull the first boss) and resetting the raid over and over for Spirits of Harmony.

EDIT: I used the Spirits to make mostly the Mist Piercing Goggles at the end. It was costly, and now i'm stuck with a bunch of goggles that don't sell anymore. But its really the best way still I think. Also the Ghost Iron Dragonling is okay in timewalking, Cogwheel gems scale really well, 22 of a stat in most timewalkings it seems, and 3 slots.

BFA pre-patch time - this item just dropped for me on one of my characters.

I did have level 75 Pandarian Engineering, and was level 90, when I started farming for this.

From what I've read, this can drop anywhere in Pandaria. I killed over 100 mobs, between the Jade Forest and Kun-Lai areas and it still wouldn't drop. Decided to try the "High Level" area, so went to Dread Wastes. Item dropped from the 5th mob I killed. Could be coincidence - but the key thing is that this item does still drop in BFA. Though it might take a lot longer than previously required.

Does anyone know if this item still drops with pandaria engineering maxed out after 8.0? I have not gotten it after killing some random Pandaria mobs, and am wondering if Blizzard thought of this when they divided up the professions per expansion. I have pandaria engineering at 75/75.

Just confirming this does still drop in BfA
Had my engineer leveled to 90 Pandaria Engineering and it dropped after 30 or so kills from the Sha mobs in the Vale.
(side note, except on my first toon when Mists first went live I have always subsequently farmed it in the Vale from the Sha mobs, It's always a pretty reasonable drop rate in my opinion as I've never really spent a lot of time there on any of my numerous engineering toons)

Just had this drop off Hozen mobs after about 3 minutes of reaching 75 skill Pandarian engineering. I was in the same area for about 30 minutes before hand when I was only at skill level 73 and no drop.

After I reached 75 pandaria engineering I killed one rare just next to the engineering trainer in the Valley of the four winds and then one mob next to it and the schematic dropped :D

It still drops in 8.2.5.

The easiest spot is to go to Ruins Rise (31, 24), in the Valley of the Four Winds, and kill Mogu. It has consistently dropped within two kills for three characters today (December 19, 2019).

Not sure if this is correct or not or just coincidence. So I went to the Vale as some suggested and killed several Mogu nothing dropped. Then i watched a video where a guy said you needed to learn Pandaren Engineering up to 75. I had done this already but I went ahead, went to the trainer in the Valley of Four Winds (16,81) to make sure there wasn't any recipes that i hadn't learned, there was. I learned them all, then proceeded to The Imperial Granary, also in Valley of Four Winds (51,60), after about 6 kills it dropped for me. That being said make sure you have learned all the recipes the trainer offers if you are not getting it to drop. Not sure if it really helps or not.

Dropped for me with 77 pandaria engineering (gnome) from the third mob in Heart of Fear. I thought I needed 90 engineering as a gnome. I learned 5 recipes from it.

As of 8.3: I started my trying th Sha area in Vale (Pandaria Time Phase), and after 150 kills of sha, no luck, then tried goats in VotFW, took about 60 kills. When i finally got it, i got 2..
For my rogue i got it after 10 sha kills in Vale.

I looted this from a Mogu’shan Warden while solo’ing Mogu’shan Vaults on H10. Engineering level was 447, so can confirm you don’t need level 600 as someone else suggested.

Vale of eternal Blossoms, around 30, 38 , 'Ruins of Guo-Lai'. Spent some time at Valley of the Four winds to no avail, right after maxing out the profession for Pandaria. Went to VoeB and on first pack it dropped.

I keep getting a "You can't use this item" prompt when trying to learn the schematic. I have 75/75 MoP Engineering, and it worked on some other characters. Is there a minimum character level to learn it? For a level 32 Paladin, I did a workaround - killed mobs until I got a second one, deleted the one in my bag, and then I could use the one I looted. Tried disabling addons, relog, restart the game, waited one day, nothing works for this character, level 14 Shaman.

Edit: I got a reply on my support ticket, apparently the level squish affected the item:

"The plan itself is supposed to have a requirement of character level 35 but seems to be inconsistent. While we are unable to help here please make sure to report it as a bug via the bug report feature and hold on to the item for now. Th best way would be to level your character to 35 and then try again."

Confirming Imperial Granary still ideal to farm this in 2022 late Shadowlands. Took me 5 minutes as others have said previously. I am an all heals person who only DPS's when necessary, but all of these mobs were one-hits. Even for a DPS spaz.
