The Weekly Marmot - Raiding With a Life
Hello, Wowhead! I'm devomorph, also known as
Lore
over at
TankSpot
. I make the Weekly Marmot, a weekly video show in which I give tips and tricks, talk about current issues, and otherwise discuss the World of Warcraft. Thanks to the magic of the internet and our new friends at Wowhead, I'll be bringing it to you here as well!
So, you've got a busy schedule. Work, family, friends, whatever it is, you've just got too much on your hands to possibly have any time to get into raiding. That's just for the guys who can afford to spend 40 hours a week in front of their PC, right?
Well, maybe not. This week I take a look at the actual time commitments necessary to participate in a successful raiding guild, and what you can do to get started and fit it into your busy life. Check it out, you might be surprised!

Our Real Life "Adventures" Spotlighted in Avatar Days
So a particularly unique World of Warcraft machinima video was linked to me this morning, and I believe that it stands out so much from the typical game-themed videos that I wanted to share it with you guys.
Avatar Days
is a short film completed by a small group of talented Dublin residents, several of which are World of Warcraft players just like you and I. The video follows short "day in the life of" sequences which are each narrated by a different player, with his avatar performing the various, mundane tasks of the daily lives which many of us follow. This film was completed in an astonishing four days in entry for Ireland's
Darklight Film Festival
. Check it out for yourselves - it's interesting to stop, think and realize just how many World of Warcraft players are out there in that "real world."

Patch 3.3.5: One Week Wait Between Regions
With the testing of the upcoming
patch 3.3.5
going smoothly on the PTR, Slorkuz has announced something pretty unprecedented on the official forums.
In order to make the smoothest implementation of the new Battle.net RealID system, patch 3.3.5 will be deployed first on North American realms followed with Europe, Korea, and Taiwan one week afterward!
In patch 3.3.5, we will be introducing our new Battle.net system, which opens up new communication options for World of Warcraft players and lays the groundwork for integration with future Blizzard games, such as StarCraft II. In order to ensure that the implementation of this major new system goes as smoothly as possible, we plan to release the patch to North American realms first, with Europe, Korea, and the region of Taiwan following approximately one week afterward.

Impressions from Operation: Gnomeregan
The Cataclysm pre-launch events are currently being tested on the PTR, so I decided to go ahead and look around. If you haven't been keeping up with all the details though, I recommend checking out the
Pre-Launch Events
on our
Cataclysm
guide.
To recap, the
Gnomes
are preparing for a mission to reclaim
, their home city once lost to
Mekgeniere Termospin
, while the
Trolls
are about to launch their own conquest to retake the Echo Isles, taken from them by
Zalazane
. On top of that, the Twilight's Hammer Cult will be meddling with all these affairs, too!
Having said all that, let's proceed to the details about
Operation: Gnomeregan
!

If you do not like spoilers, stop here. Otherwise, let's continue after the break!

BFF Report Episode 28: Heroes of Newerth vs League of Legends
Is anyone shocked that developers are trying to cash in on the massive success of the Warcraft 3 mod/map, DotA? I suppose there is that sweet spot in time where you can offer a game that is pretty much a straight copy with updated graphics, a dash of new features, a pinch of support, and still be accepted as something
new
and
refreshing
(I'm looking at you, BeatHazard).
In this episode of the BFF Report, I got to checkout the two newest heavy hitter entries into the MOBA genre,
League of Legends
(F2P) and
Heroes of Newerth
($30 retail). Is either one worthy of being crowned the unofficial successor of DotA? Are you gonna pass and wait for the SC2 mod? Bloodline Champions? Do you like cookies?

StarCraft II Race Guides on ZAM
I know this isn't a World of Warcraft-related post, but trying to pretend that we're not all flipping out over
StarCraft II
isn't going to fool anyone, so let's just call it straight, shall we?
Our friends at
ZAM
have posted a lovely series of guides to the new races in StarCraft II, so if you're interested in being at the top of your game when the doors open wide in June, you'd best take a look!

Security and Malware: Serious Business
Since the release of the
Completion Tracker
, there has been a significant increase in people using our
Wowhead Client
to upload data to our servers so they can see all of their character's tasty dataz. Also, as always, World of Warcraft accounts continue to be compromised, resulting in people losing items or even full characters. It's no surprise that some people who have lost accounts after downloading and using the Wowhead Client think that the client is the cause for the loss of their account.
While this may seem like a natural conclusion, I'd like to take a moment to remind everyone that
correlation does not imply causation
. It's always a good idea to do some research in cases like this to verify a possible relation between the two events. In an effort to help, I thought it might be useful to answer some questions about our site and our client.

Icecrown Citadel Raid Buff Up to 20%
As of today's maintenance, the Icecrown Citadel raid buff is up to a 20% damage increase (see
Canto di Guerra di Malogrido
and
Forza di Wrynn
).
Just as before, this is going to make the
Icecrown Citadel
encounters that much easier, so be prepared to see a new crop of guilds diving into the ICC content.
The buff should reach an astonishing
25%
on June 22nd, and
30%
on July 20th.
Remember, as before, you can always request that the buff be removed if you want to try the encounter in its most difficult form.

Wrath of the Lich King: Exhausted?
I have been playing WoW for close to 3 years now, I think. One of the main things that has kept me
active
in the game so long was a basic MMORPG concept, that Blizzard developed to great heights - there is always stuff to do. If it's not leveling, then it's questing. If it's not questing, it's money-making. If it's not money-making, it's gearing up. If it's not gearing up, it's raiding. If it's not raiding, it's achievement farming. I could probably go on for a while (without mentioning PvP, I don't really do that).
So okay, there is always stuff to do. The game is endless, and that's one of its charms.

A Look at WotLK Progression Statistics
Stompalina
from the Rawrcast tipped me off to an article they had up on their
website
that takes a look at progression statistics for WotLK.
I thought this was really interesting to look at—it tracks how quickly people progressed through the starting content in WotLK versus how quickly they progressed through ICC, and what percentage of players are actually completing the content, and draws some interesting conclusions about what we can expect to see in Cataclysm.
The article is here:

Remote Auction House Access In Beta!
Surprise! Blizzard has launched their beta test of the WoW Online Auction House via their brand new
WoW Remote
service! While only available on a
select few realms
, will be able search their characters' local Auction Houses with the same functionality available in the game, as well as see real-time status of each of their current bids and auctions.
When the service finally goes live, players will be able to subscribe to a new service called WoW Remote for
$2.99/month
, which allows you to buy items, post items to the auction house and even collect gold from your current auctions.
During the beta test these features will be available for free, and each account will be able to perform up to 25 transactions a day. While this number is low, it will be increased when the service is officially launched.
Due to the added stress, the Armory is loading a little slow right now. But when it's up, the information will be at the links below!
