Hard to find it on the ground, look close to the trees' roots and the drop rate from mobs is low

I managed to get way over 200 of these by the time i was in Ungoro (all quests done)
I took half of what i saw, most i just ran by... tho every mob drops it...

I tend to make a "soil run" about once every few weeks. I collect a stack of 100 Un'Goro soil (plus power crystals and bloodpetal sprouts while I'm at it). It takes some time to get the 100 soil, but it is worth it in my opinion. The repeatable morrowgrain quest (to be handed in in Thunder Bluff and Darnassus, respectively) is very nice indeed, as are the buffs you can get from the power crystals.

Yes, mobs do drop the soil, but mostly only one at a time, while the piles of dirt yield one to four each.

Usually I ride between piles without actively engaging mobs, but if one does aggro, I kill it and gladly take its soil if it drops any.
The one exception to my "no active engagement" rule are Bloodpetals, because they also drop Savage Fronds, which are nice for Argent Dawn rep.

I don't get it. I went to the Crater for the first time today. I saw all kinds of crystals and those pods laying everyone. I didn't see a single dirt pile. That was on a journey from the Tanaris entrance to the Refuge. I looked everywhere, did many 360s, looked around trees. Nothing. No sparkle over mounds. No mounds. Confused.

Keep in mind that if you farm mobs for this, the Gorishi's drop nothing a fair deal of the time so the percentages might be off by a bit.

I found most of mine at about 64, 79. Bought the rest from AH after reading these posts and realized it wasn't the time and effort to farm them. I'm filing this one under "the quest designer was a sadist, jerk, etc."

The soil mounds are almost impossible to distinguish from ground clutter at even the lowest setting.
They're few and far between, but when you find them they're surrounded by Ravasaurs.
Most insulting, I was able to collect more than enough crystals to complete Crystals of Power before I was halfway across the zone and knew what they were for!

Un'Goro Gorillas, Stompers, Thunderers in the cave & outside of it drop the soil often...

Folks, I don't think Un'Goro soil exists any more after 4.0. I just searched Un'Goro and found not one. I killed every gorilla in the zone too. If you have found some recently, please reply.

The former Arch Druid Fandral Staghelm was finally taken down for his corruption and his schemes involving the Un'Goro Soil and the morrowgrain it yielded have therefore ended. There is currently no practical use for either of these items so vend what you have of them unless you have a case of Wow-hoarding. *cough cough*

I still have my Un'goro Soil and Evergreen Pouch in my bank. I'm also able to buy Tharlendris Seeds needed to use them both, although I didn't get any Morrowgrain on my one attempt to see if it is still working. So the soil may or may not be farmable still, but it hasn't actually been removed from the game as of today.

Edit-However, after looking at the NPC who sells the seeds, I don't see the option to turn in the Morrowgrain you used to receive from doing this quest, so perhaps it exists only to use up the last of the soil one has so you can sell the Mutated Morrowgrain you now get. Which only vendors for 8 copper....... It used to be possible to turn Morrowgrain into Cenarion Circle for rep also, pre-Cata. Which would be nice right about now as I need rep with them.....

The whole situation reminds me of the Craftsman's Writs that I have that are no longer useful, but aren't grayed out either. Makes you wonder if they're really not useful anymore or if maybe Blizzard is planning on doing something with them in the future.

Edit #2-You can still get Morrowgrain from Evergreen Herb Casings. I bought a couple more seeds to see if anything else would drop, got Morrowgrain both times. Not sure what the story is with the turn in, but I'm going to try heading down to Feralas, see if there's a turn in guy at the new location on the mainland there.
