The recipe is a random drop from the Fishing daily quests, and has a fairly high drop rate.

Actually it doesn't. Does every Chef need to be a fisherman too? It doesn't work the other way around.

Here's the thing.

The recipe for Captain Rumsey's Lager can be obtained from the Bag of Fishing Treasures which is a reward for completing the fishing daily Crocolisks in the City, which requires a fishing skill of 1.

To answer your question, yes. If you want this achievement you will have to be a fisherman, albeit a very, very poor one.

I leveled fishing just to get the Rumsey Recipe, so I can get the Chef title.

Third daily i did i got!

My fishing skill is 300 and i use +100 imbue and i have Seths pole +20

Thats 420, same as my smoking skill >.>

I don't get the issue with leveling fishing. Some great cooking recipe's are for fish, and give awesome buffs....especially the one's you get for the Dalaran Cooking Awards. Fishing is also a great way to get motes of/crystallized water. I know it's a tedious skill to level in once you reach certain levels, but it's one that is well worth the time and effort.

This recipe dropped for me from the bag of fishing treasures that I received upon completing The One That Got Away. This was only my 5th day of fishing dailies...so it dropped pretty quick.

I've been doing the fishing dailies offered by Old Man Barlow every day for what seems like about two months now... But I'm still waiting for the Capt. Rumsey's lager recipe to show up as a reward...

People might like to know that you can also get this recipe from the daily fishing quests like Blood is Thicker from Marcia Chase in Dalaran. Got it today!

So no need to travel to Shatt anymore, although obviously doing so gives you twice the chance.

as fishing is not the hardest prof. to skill up, this will be easy if you have the patience to wait for new daily's each day. As mentioned the recipe does not have the best drop chance, BUT it is good enough to get it after a few days. And if brewing this ofcourse you will get the achievement, but also if you are a fisherman it will serve as a little boost to your fishing skill ! :) Calculated it and with all +fishing skill items in-game i think you will get up to 667 skill. Have the recipe myself, got it on my 5th bag from dalaran;) Waiting for the skill in cooking to learn it still!

I've been doing both Dalaran and Shatt cooking/fishing dailies for about 2 months now (practically every single day)...This achievement is the only one I need for the Chef title. It's really bugging me that it hasn't dropped yet...They shouldn't make the rate so effing low :(

I just got the recipe in the small spice bag you get from the Dalaran cooking Daily. I have been doing the dailies for about a week now. I was looking at what achievements I needed to get, seen I needed this recipe, did the daily and got the recipe. How lucky :P

I am struggling to believe this comes in the bag of treasures from the dalaran fishing dailies, at least with any regularity. I have been doing them for 4-5 months now and have not seen it. Not doing them everyday, but more than every other day.

I honestly keep checking here on Wowhead to see if this plan is still obtained from these quests. I have been doing both the fishing, and cooking dailys quests from Northrend as well as Outland for the better part of 2 years now, and have yet to see it.

This achievement is the only one I've needed for Chef pretty much since WotLK was released. I think the game hates me :(

As of the shattering, vendors in cities no longer sell the Skin of Dwarven Stout or the Flagon of Mead. However, as the achievement is still needed for the "Chef" Title awarding meta, anyone who has not already made theirs, or know someone who had some stashed, is in for a disappointment. Expect what little remains of the mats for this to skyrocket on the AH. If any show up at all...

I've been doing all 4 dailies for 8 months, every day. And the 2 new ones also since the shattering.
I figured I'd check here on drop rates as it's been taking so long.
People whinging about how they've been doing it for 2 weeks made me wonder...
I got all the other parts of the achievement aside for this about 2 months ago, I even finished getting all 4 pets out of the shat fishing daily months ago, so been doing it just for this recipe.
Anyhows, it suddenly occurred to me... this is one of those 'make it' not 'learn it' achievments, so I checked my recipe list and, sure enough, I have it. No clue when I got it, I'm assuming years ago when I was first doing the shat dailies pre WoTLK (and pre quitting for 2 years).
I'll cook it when I get home tonight.

So yeah, total tard on this one :)

Just posting this in case there's anyone else going for it that just assumes they don't have it already like i did... please let there be someone else, please?

You can also pick up the mats from Sarah Brady in the Dalaran sewers.

Another place you can get both mats is from the Tavern of Time located in the Caverns of Time in Tanaris. Go through that big archway towards the back of it. You should immediately see the Steward of Time and follow the path a short ways until you see a doorway on your right. Alexston Chrome is there to greet you and sells the mats. And while you're there walk in and immediately look at the table directly to your left. There you'll find the book: " The Kaldorei and the Well of Eternity" which is needed for the "Well Read" achievement. This is especially good news if you're Horde as this book is otherwise found in Stormwind. Here are the coords for those that use em:

Entrance/Archway: 64.7, 50.0

Alexston Chrome: 66.5, 49.6

Book: 66.5, 49.7

LOOK THROUGH YOUR RECIPES. After a year of longing toward the achievement, I discovered I already had this among my ~200 recipes, only needed to brew it.
Same was the case for the Stromchops: Chef <name>, here I come!
Sigh.

I KNOW for a fact that this recipe never dropped for me as a cooking or fishing daily reward. I would have remembered it. I bet they changed something in a recent patch that you learned this from a trainer, and if you were past that level, they automatically gave it to you. That's the only thing that makes sense. Because I checked my recipes today, and I already have it! Oh well, now I have "Chef" too!

OMG! I too am one of the goofballs that continued to do fishing dailies for almost 2 years now. I actually have no idea when I learned it, but had never gotten around to actually brewing it. Thanks to everyone who also added comments about their misunderstanding. **if you dont yet have your Chef title take a look, bet all you will need to do is brew some up. :) Good Luck

Add me to the goofball list. As I was working on achievements I came over here, saw the places it *might* drop and dutifully did dailies for quite some time, and .... it never dropped. Sort of gave up thinking about it, kept doing dailies for G and figured eventually I'd get it somehow.

Today, I was doing the Thanksgiving dailies and my jaw just about dropped when I saw that right below "Spice Bread Stuffing" on the list was "Captain Rumsey's Lager."

No idea how long I have had it or where I got it.

This cant be happening! I came here in hope of new tips how to get this recipe fast. Ended up reading Acanelle's comment and answers to that comment. Thinking of "yeah, right. I know i dont have it" after 5 mins, still reading other comments, little sound in my head told me to really check the recipe list...
GAWD! How stupid i feel now! I have absolutely no idea when i got it! There it was.
So ppl, even if you are very sure you dont have it. CHECK IT!

I'm not sure how to respond to a comment, but in regards to the current top comment about only being able to get this recipe from a fishing daily -- I just got it from the spice bag from the Dalaran daily. Just a head's up.
